Its experiences like this , that make you go fishing again. That fact you didnt land the fish, adds to the story. Great work by your friend sticking by you, important for other kayak fishos to support each other. A large fish has its challenges on a kayak, i would imagine. Thank for the vid.
1000% agree, thanks for the great comment. It just motivates me more to get out and keep landing those bigger models on a kayak with plastics. I also strongly agree about kayakers supporting each other
Bills, mortgage, rent, kids, house maintenance, wife yelling, car maintenance, speeding fines, eastlink.... none of it matters when that reel spins. Good video. Gonna need a bigger.....
I'm a beginner and have been watching your videos nonstop as well as signed up to be a member...Would love to fish with you one day. Love your content!!
Thanks Joshua, I really appreciate it. Im always happy to catch up with FishingMad Members so feel free to send me a FB message or email and im sure we can arrange something.
I felt that stress, you got every pound out of that breaking strain before it ended. The worst part about those battles is, every fish you catch after that during the day just feels underwhelming.
1000% i caught about 10 fish after losing the big one and was completely underwhelmed LOL. It motivates me to get back out there and land that monster on soft plastics on the yak. Thanks for watching.
Bad luck mate, you'll get the next one! I used to always fish really light gear and line....but then I went up to 12lb and I still hooked just as many fish haha. Its really a balancing act how much we want to turn smaller fish into better sport vs risking dropping the odd big one.
Yeah I agree, early season in the shallow reefs you get heaps of small pinkies, but 100% now time to step up the gear for a while whilst the snapper are around. Better to go BIG than volume I think too.
I still reckon that was a little Bronzie that picked up your lure as a buddy of mine hooked one a week or so before that not too far from there on a soft plastic as well. There sure were some big fish around that day mate, we both got smashed by some bigguns
Yeah I was just spewing that i never got to see it, saw flashed of colour twice. You could be right and that would have been epic. My netting a bronize would have been interesting.
definitely an eagle ray mate, they can be very funny fighters early, then they just glue themselves to the bottom late in the fight. i had near an identical fight landbased recently except on heavier gear. Early on we called gummy then about halfway through you realise it's a dirty old eagle
Yeah at the end of the battle I too was thinking rays as I've caught plenty of big eagle rays over the years. The fact that it was taken on a soft plastic left me really torn to whether it was a snapper that reefed me it certainly felt like there were plenty of head shakes or if it was a Ray. We saw colour several times but not enough to say which was really disappointing. Just means i need to get out and get redemption on a big red with slightly heavier gear
@@fishingmad i've got a feeling you hooked it in the wing and the head shakes you may have felt were it flapping it's wings. i've done that at queenscliff harbour before where it's hooked on the wing. in saying that you just never know.
Yeah very much could have been, I was shattered that we just didn't see it as half way through I had it about 5 or 6 meters away form the yak, enough to see colour but not identify before it went for another run
I've caught many eagle rays over the years, but sometimes they feel like their giving head shakes and I swear it's something good till I actually see it.
Yep that's great for trout streams, id strongly recommend having a look at the Daiwa Presso range. They have rods and reels specifically made for trout stream fishing.
Sorry I hit the send button by mistake. Anyway I've had a look at the 22 Stellas and Exists, although I couldn't really distinguish any difference between them and the Luvias Airity, and was looking to pair it with a rod of the same quality. Thanks.
Mad Battle, Love it. Was going to ask about the Millerod. As I've spoken of before Alan, I've been building High End rods. Are they a Toray carbon blank ? Cheers Steve
on ya website I saw the gosen hard 8 P.E 0.4 10lb line in a 150m I was wondering if you or anybody else here could tell me how to get it in 300m. I'm having no luck on the internet.
I haven't seen them in spools of 300 only 150. We have a few local resellers and distis that might be able to confirm. Next time i go into one ill ask.
Confused as well to what it was, the headshakes stopped after the first run, normally snapper will shake their heads as much as possible but who knows. Great
Wow, what an epic battle Alan My heart sank for you.. real edge of your seat stuff, I was onboard the entire way!
Thanks David, yeah I was shattered we didnt land it. Thats fishing

Awesome, thank you!

Spoken like a real fishing addict!
Yep 100% I cant get enough
Awesome experience for sure 👍 You should definitely do some bushcraft videos

Really good video Alan! That was one hell of a fight, shame it got away but still looked like real good fun
Thanks Jared, yeah was a bit shattered but ill be back out for redemption.
You had me at "Oh shit!"
LOL yeah I don't do that often. That moment realise your gear is way to light
Love the rig captions Alan, where you say the size of the soft plastic, jigged weight and hook size.
Thanks !! ill make sure we keep adding these into future vids
That was sick!!! Edge of seat episode😊
Thanks !! Really glad ya enjoyed it. Shattered i lost it

I think you're right, I've seen rays do the same. Often get confused for something bigger

Great vid! Intense:)
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks
Hi, I'm looking for a new trout stream combo. What your using looks pretty good. Would you recommend it for that scenario? Thanks.
Yep that's great for trout streams, id strongly recommend having a look at the Daiwa Presso range. They have rods and reels specifically made for trout stream fishing.
Yeah they're nice. But I was looking to step it up a bit. I've had a look at the new Stellas and

That hits hard, so painful.
Yep I still think about it all the time LOL
Ouch! It’ll take a while to get over that, even I’m gutted.
Yeah 100% I haven't quite got over it just yet, but super motivated to get back out and catch another big one
The only one not gutted was the fish!
Mad Battle, Love it. Was going to ask about the Millerod.
As I've spoken of before Alan, I've been building High End rods.
Are they a Toray carbon blank ?
Cheers Steve
That sucks Al. At least you didnt have that lil 1000 Diawa on there. It wouldn't have lasted half that fight. cheers.
daiwa a mcuh better brand mate haha
It would’ve been si k too see the fish but still that’s an amazing video mate
You must have good knots how they didn't break earlier or the leader just snap being so light I don't know
In my limited novice experience rays don't head shake and have a red/orange/pink shine. Not that I would know but just sayin.
Some times you can confuse headshakes for a ray slapping its tail against the line when it runs.
Good video mate
Thanks 👍

@@fishingmad thank you very much mate
Huge run great fight
It sure was, im still shattered LOL
Confused as well to what it was, the headshakes stopped after the first run, normally snapper will shake their heads as much as possible but who knows. Great
Yeah im exactly the same. The first half of the fight felt very very much like a snapper and the end felt a lot more like a Ray
The way it pulled, definitely not a snapper. Even with that gear and setup, snapper would be on the surface long time ago. Most likely a big stingray.
really sorry to see you loose it
Thanks Mark, ill be back for redemption that's for sure
And thats why you dont fish 6lb in snapper season :P
Yep, Agreed
@@fishingmad I'm sure I'll see you out there soon Alan. If you see Wizz and another yellow outback, mine will be the quiet one

Knife to gunfight 😂
Yep 1000% and funny enough I even said myself in my previous tutorial vid " don't bring a knife to a gun fight"
I can't help thinking of hand winding to land it.
Yeah 100% i should have given that a go towards the end
@@fishingmad Great effort with that light gear though !👏👏
Heart breaker 🥺🥺
Yep 1000%
That's why I don't fish light
So now you will have to change the Channel name to MadFishing!!
