It's a criminally underrated amp. So many people think it's just for "metal." It can do that, but it can do just about everything else as well. A great amp.
I wouldn't even consider the JCM to be a metal amp at all. IMO, it's a crunch or classic rock amplifier. Beautiful and amazing tone but not a metal amp at all in my book. Too fizzy, too scooped, too open.
Notes about the 'One Song' series: The idea for the 'One Song' series came about when I was trying to come up with a cool idea for my next EPIC/MEGA amp comparison with around 30 amps. So I came up with the idea of writing a song in multiple styles that would do a good job of 'testing' the versatility of an amp. It would start clean and end with metal. And I thought it could be interesting to use multiple guitars, so one for each section. Then I realised that it would be cool to release each amp's video individually first and when I'm all done I'll upload a compilation that would essentially be similar to all my other mega comparisons, including all the timecodes etc. This will be called: 'One Song, 30 Amps!'. So that's the plan basically! However, I'm also planning on running the song through some modeling platforms to also demo those and see how well they can work with all the material in the song. I've chosen to NOT use the same IRs for each segment this time because I want to use cab tones that the amps are 'comfortable' with. So don't view this as a direct comparison of the amps per say, but view it as an amp showcase that also allows you to hear how the amps function inside the song or inside the music, of course in comparison to one another in that sense! This will showcase the uniqueness of the amps more, which is more fun imho, and it also allows me to be a little bit more creative when reamping each amp. Plus: some of you guys will say 'they all sound the same' anyway and the different cab sounds will make the amps sound more interesting and unique! For the metal segment I'll very likely use a boost pedal for most of the amps, just so you metalheads or djentheads can hear how a downtuned baritone with a boost sounds with the amp. Anyway, I hope you guys will enjoy this series and I hope I made the song interesting enough to listen to it a couple times (because I don't expect anyone to watch all 30 or more amp videos lol). -Jon
This video convinced me to buy the amp to replace my DSL40CR (it died). I can’t wait to play a Megadeth Cover set with it!!! Thank you Sonic Drive Studios!
I've been watching your videos for quite some time now and I'm constantly impressed by the quality of both audio and video. Have you ever thought of doing a video about your entire recording process? I know you've done plenty of mixing tutorials but I haven't seen a vid about the recording itself and final video editing and I'm sure many people like me would love to see it! Cheers!
Awesome quality demo! Only just discovered this channel. Some real talent on display here! It’s like watching a mini concert. Oh yeah, and the amp sounds good too!😁
How loud is this amp? I been looking into getting this instead of using my evh. I play shows with no mic on the cab usually as well. Wondering if it would be loud enough for a band.
In a rock/metal band with another guitar player its barely enough. It's ok for rhythm but if you want vol boost for solos then it comes short. It reaches it's max vol on about 4-5 on master. After that no more vol increase just more saturation. If you try to boost it in fx loop at that volume it just farts out. Good thing is that you could play solos without boosting volume because it cuts through mix so well but that depends on band, music style and a lot of other stuff
@@SonicDriveStudio for me it was either real amp+cab or virtual amp+virtual cab (atomic amplifire). I sure will test a real amp with a virtual cab...this sounds like a good idea....and I need a loadbox...:)
While my telecaster can sound clean tone in this amp, my ltd kh 602 can't do. This amp with active pickups can't sound clean tone?? @@. I was so much surprised..
Please tell some of these poor souls about the SE 277... That it is a baritone guitar. That 'djent' does not arrive in the mail or by amp model... That it is one's style, tone and tuning...
What happened to Marshall after the 800? I feel like the only thing good since then was a jubilee in 87... The 900 was pointless and the 2000 with there "Modern" distortion was terrible... here we are in 2020 and nothing innovative has come out............
@@SonicDriveStudio I guess 😁 I feel like I can achieve the same amount of gain and tones with the right pickups and boost pedal for way less money, with the older models 🤑 I mean, these modern tube amps are more about convenience than innovation...If that makes any sense.

Hard rock certainly, 80’s metal for sure, but falls a little short of other amps for more modern metal tones. But it is a killer amp for hard rock.
Seriously, dude, did you really have to put this video out there? Now I want this amp!!
Man, those tones sound amazing and extremely crisp playing!!

That sounds awesome! Do you think you could add a decibel reading for each of the lunchbox heads so we get an idea of how loud it is?
That riff at 1:19 is so tasty, just the right amount of dissonance. Great job, as always.
Has a opeth quality to it which I love
Yes what is it? Is it a song or did he make it up? Sounded like an E then don't know the following notes
This video convinced me to buy the amp to replace my DSL40CR (it died). I can’t wait to play a Megadeth Cover set with it!!! Thank you Sonic Drive Studios!
The clean stuff is so nice and Jane's Addictiony
I don't want to be a Marshall fanboy but I just can't help it, this thing just sounds so sweeeeet!
ofc marshalls sound good, the metal tone could have had a little more gain or oomph idk the chugs sounded kinda weak
Just got this as my first all valve amp, unbelievably good!
Awesome demonstration 😮 Perfect !
The entire track is incredible
i love that riff at 2:05 with the "deftones chord" so good
You have the best demos, and your songs make them.
Thank you!
I have this amp and so many others, this is by far the best and versatile amp I have ever had

Thanks! :)
This series/format is top notch!
Would be lovely to see a full-blood 100W JCM800 on this channel one day to compare it.
Colour coorodinati9on with the parrot. Pure Gold. Great vid dude!
Gonna buy this amp because of your video, they should pay you a commission ;)
Damn. It's just my favorite sound. Unmatched, even with lots of great amps out there...
Great job. Thank You very much!! 🦾🦾
With all the newer amp designs. How come the classic Marshall JCM 800 is sooo goood and often better.
Top nice Marshall📻📻🎸
thanks dude! keep up the good work
SV20 next?
These demos are so good... maybe, too good.
SV20H soon!
Sonic Drive Studio yeeeah, boiiiii!!

Sonic Drive Studio too cool. Just got the Snake Skin one today. Haven’t even had a chance to plug it in!!
You really showcased what this amp can do…is it possible to set up a 1 channel amp to change from clean to overdrive? Thanks!
Sweet!!!
🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
just WOW!
6:57 Sounds like 16th century greensleeves from Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow.. lol. Were you trying to play that song?
I didn't expect it to djent so well, holy crap!
Thinking of adding this in the studio with the Rockerverb MKIII....good pairing you think?
well done
Best demo e v e r 🤟🍻
Could you explain your signal chain ? Not sure if I’m missing it. Where your IRS are loaded, load box, etc. Thanks
Have to give you props. Must have took literally days to edit all this!
Hi bro!! U can use the DI Output on the back to the input of the audio Interface (Instrument imput)?? Cheers!
awesome video sounds killer Jon. what interface and pre are you plugin the marshall into? many thanks
From germany best regards! This amp is my next dream! This video is very cool, my connection not! I have a ... f...ing latency bäh
Haven’t u find the low sensitivity input too much lower than the high input John?
I love your demos! When are you going to make a one song one amp for the IronHearts that you have? Maybe start with the 60watt version...
Looks like you already did one song one amp for the IronHearts. Somehow I didn't see them on a search.
You can already find them in a playlist on this channel but I'll release them soon as well ;)
How loud is this amp? I been looking into getting this instead of using my evh. I play shows with no mic on the cab usually as well. Wondering if it would be loud enough for a band.
That's hard to say. Depends on your drummer I guess
It’s fairly loud. It’s louder than I’ve ever had to play in a band with or without a mic

How is the overall build and sound quality compared to the JCM 800 reissue? Is this line the cheap Chinese stuff? Thanks
Built in the UK.
Made in uk 🇬🇧
Killer! For the crunch tones at about 7min we’re you pushing the front end with an OD?
Emg’s and gain dimed’
How is the amp connected to the DAW ? Where are the IR's stored ? Sounds great !
Amp goes into loadbox goes into my Axe fx for IR loading. So the USB signal is recorded directly into my daw

My friend, jcm 800 SV ou dsl 20cr? Help me.
I'd love to know that chord progression from min 2.19 to 2.40.

Damn son!
man u awesome
Is the high sensitivity channel noisy? Thx
No, not really
how does it sound for metal without the pedal?
Low gain
While my telecaster can sound clean tone in this amp, my ltd kh 602 can't do.
This amp with active pickups can't sound clean tone?? @@.
I was so much surprised..
The clean channel is quite crunchy
Mini Jubilee please?
