I still see the denting where the filler didn't fill properly and, even though the color is correct, he didn't do anything to replicate the texture so it literally just looks like painted leather with little craters on each side. It's not a horrible restoration but its definitely not masterful.
@@BUSHhoehh It also looks and feels like a pretty...basic repair job, but the video is trying to make it sound like it's way more fancy than that. @@mi3helle707 so, in my humble and upper middle class opinion: There's really nothing wrong with liking wealth, or spending good money on a quality product. Thanks for this vid and bravo to the cobbler.
I always assume they’re worn as house shoes. Like, you come home, take off your regular outside shoes, then slip on your house shoes that never step across the threshold to outdoors. Kinda like slippers. Also, wear white ON Labor Day, assert dominance, give no fucks.
Well, I can imagine a scenario where my friends and contacts to the high society events all wear these kinds of shoes and clothing. If I don't fit in I can't communicate with them or secure my spot on high society.
Because you’re not the target market for high end products therefore you wouldn’t understand why people would buy these.l because we simply don’t have the money to do so. The target market for these products are rich people because rich people would spend more on luxury products because its a status sorta thing.
I could get this pair of slippers for $1000 or I could get this pair of still very excellent and expensive slippers for $100 and give $100 to 9 homeless people and feed them for a week. All for the price of a brand, and I bet the $100 pair is more comfortable.
This is amazing! I was always told that you couldn't repair leather shoes once the leather starts peeling and falls off. Finding this guy in UA-cam has possibly saved my boots! Only question is... Does he repair any kind leather shoe or boots? Or just expensive brand names like Gucci?
Depending on what happened to the leather and where the damage is, I would consider a dyed patch (if there's a hole/tear) instead, esp if it's on the part of the seat where your body's in regular contact. Paint will rub off real quick if it's on the part where you sit. If it's just some spots where the color has rubbed off completely on a dark leather, you can dab some oil on to make it a lot less noticeable (dab, not soak, either with a qtip for tiny spots or a rag or cotton ball for larger ones). Neatsfoot is my favorite for darkening things, it'll turn raw leather a lovely chocolate brown. Clean it before you oil it and then after, let it sit for a few hours before you drive (unless you don't mind a bit of oil on your clothes) though! (I'm not a leatherworker- I just work with horses and have cleaned + repaired a lot of horse tack.)
Yes! This is so bizarre. It makes me think these comments must all be fake. Surely people would see the color difference and how the thick layer of paint fills in the texture of the material. Not to mention that he got some paint underneath where the material is stitched together. This does not seem like quality work to me, I am so confused.
I have riding boots that I sometimes get adjusted/repaired- can run you anywhere from $30 for something like a patch to $70-80 for a zipper replacement or letting boots out/taking them in to $150+ for repairing damage like this.
Not worth the cost tbh those shoes are $600-800 and repairs can cost up to $300... By the time your shoe is ruined, your shoe is out of style or on sale for almost as much as the repair.
This is beautiful. Really, i couldn't look away for the entire length of the video! And somehow, I think that them having been repaired makes these shoes more precious rather than expensive. It would gladden me ever more to see such work being 'commonly' done on medium and lower level shoes (by price), though. Imagine how cool it would be if skillfully repaired things were considered fashionable and somewhat proper. Ah, to do away with dirt-cheap things that by design are made not to last! My more reasonable/pragmatic (and less romantic) friends argue that this would hurt many industries, but doesn't that make us hostages to nowadays' consumerism culture? I mean, that's really, really sad, when you think about it. We have less and less lasting things that we cherish.
I am wondering how long can the repair last if the shoe is worn regularly or it is like the kind of restoration that goes only for display like in the museums..nice skills btw
Depending on the user if the user knows how to look after their things even the cheapest things can stay for years and will still look new 🤷🏽♀️I have cheapest and fake things for 8 to 10 years and still looks new
What you have just witnessed is the intersection of arrogance (to own a pair of $1000 shoes), and ignorance (to leave such shoes within reach of a chewing dog) all located in the town of absolutely no sense of style, but whose mayor is a humble professional man of the people who truly takes pride in his work.
👍Really good leather restructuring 👍❗ On the other hand, I will never understand the existence of people who buy such a *terribly ugly type of slipper* and above all with a *crazy cost*

If I drop a needle it's not getting through the thick leather of my Danskos, but you're guaranteed to get a poke in Crocks. Nope. No Crocks for me. Anyway, back to the point... I've literally never heard anyone who's wearing Danskos complain. If you know anyone who works long shifts on their feet, do them a favor and suggest that they give 'em a try. They are a dream! Beautifully articulated and a perfectly executed repair.. Thank you for sharing this!
Nice repair, the shoes look like garbage but that's to be expected from designers so there's no surprise there. The repair work itself was awesome.
Is it just Me or does anybody else see imperfections with the color and also the filling as there’s some pitting going on but hey I’m not shoe expert and didn’t even know something like that could be repaired so great work
Doesnt look that great of a repair job, the leather isnt filled in all the way and the paint doesnt match
All he really did was glue the leather back together, filled it, and then painted it with what looks to be regular paint. It doesn't even seem to be leather pigment or anything. It looks like the same stuff you'd find in the walmart's paint section. And the results aren't that impressive.
You do a great Job and has the Knowledge and the skills to make it looks like brandnew.💥👍💥👍💥
It’s like magic! Restoration is an art in itself. Bravo, incredible!

They pay to get exclusive shoes most never get. The shoes doesn't need to be anything special. They only need to be rare and expensive. It's nothing more than a status symbol. Without the big Gucci logo, the shoes would cost 100$.

@@mi3helle707 indeed. You know, when I was young...and like anyone else in 'insecure camp'... aka high school,
I really didn't understand why my dad was so cheap, and frugal with his money. I remember when Air Jordans broke $100 a pair for the first time, my dad was just aghast at that!!
Then, I became an adult and had my own children, and understood exactly why they were like that!! 😳😂
I must admit:
*when it came to my children, I had 2...1 son, 1 daughter. I didn't spare much. I complained a lot, of course. But, I remember how brutal being a teenager was, and I didn't want them to have to worry about that kind ofi insecurity on top of all things teen.*
So I just caved most often, and let them get what they wanted. I set a limited amount, and as long as they could get what they wanted within the budget I gave them, all good.

So many questions about the style of this shoe! One is: what do you wear with them? Another is: are they safe after labor day?
Perfect casual mule for jeans or slacks. Kinda makes me want to go to brunch in them lol
I always assume they’re worn as house shoes. Like, you come home, take off your regular outside shoes, then slip on your house shoes that never step across the threshold to outdoors. Kinda like slippers. Also, wear white ON Labor Day, assert dominance, give no fucks.
The dog was biting them because the owner wore them in October.
Slacks jeans casual dressy
Defo not safe for after Labor Day. But wear them with summer attire.

The restoration is pretty awesome, but I cannot imagine a scenario where I'd buy $1,000 shoes!
Even if I was rich I wouldn’t wear these
You can imagine buying $1,000 shoes if you make a tonne of money
This is amazing! I was always told that you couldn't repair leather shoes once the leather starts peeling and falls off. Finding this guy in UA-cam has possibly saved my boots! Only question is... Does he repair any kind leather shoe or boots? Or just expensive brand names like Gucci?
You, sir, are a miracle worker. I’m wondering if I can do this with car leather. Matching the paint color will be an issue
I’m just gonna believe that those who say this is a perfect restoration, are the ones who cannot tell two between different shades of grey.
Yes! This is so bizarre. It makes me think these comments must all be fake. Surely people would see the color difference and how the thick layer of paint fills in the texture of the material. Not to mention that he got some paint underneath where the material is stitched together. This does not seem like quality work to me, I am so confused.
I never knew that shoes can be repaired this way.. good work
I do leather work as well and you are truly an artist. Beautiful repair
It was never going to be as good as new from that condition but you probably made it look as good as it ever could do.

Plot twist: The restoration cost $1000
I just love watching artisans. Very nice!
Now imagine the dog being more ferocious with the shoe. That’s a $1000 chew toy 😆
Would love to know the cost of repair in these fine leather good videos and not just the initial retail price of the item being restored.
The insurance covered the cost.😂
I have riding boots that I sometimes get adjusted/repaired- can run you anywhere from $30 for something like a patch to $70-80 for a zipper replacement or letting boots out/taking them in to $150+ for repairing damage like this.
@@dreaming-of-spots6805 more like $300!
Not worth the cost tbh those shoes are $600-800 and repairs can cost up to $300... By the time your shoe is ruined, your shoe is out of style or on sale for almost as much as the repair.

Because they're Gucci
Same reason everyone buys Gucci...to feel like they're better than the next person.
To show that they can afford 1k shoes
This was an absolutely stunning repair!!!!
You are an Artist! Beautiful work.
Depends shoe construction
And canine passions
Depending on the user if the user knows how to look after their things even the cheapest things can stay for years and will still look new 🤷🏽♀️I have cheapest and fake things for 8 to 10 years and still looks new

@@johnwt7333 I guess it all depends on a person's perspective. I'd be ashamed of myself if I were to spend that much on a pair of shoes, but that's because I'm not into fashion or fancy stuff. I'd rather grab a $10 pair of shoes at Payless and spend the rest traveling to somewhere I've never been.
But to each their own. I encourage folks to do what brings them joy. (Well, as long as they're not going to end up with crushing debt at the end of it. 😉)
I can totally understand spending more on something because the quality and durability is worth it, but sometimes expensive doesn't equal quality.
