That's the fucking point of nuclear war, that it doesn't have a point, so everyone is safe.

I guess we're lucky Russia's Dead Hand aka Perimeter didn't auto-activate from the Chelyabinsk meteor.
That system is a bit more complex than shown. In addition to external sensors, it also needs to detect a certain amount of failure in russian military command and control networks for it's programming to conclude that russia has been wiped out in a nuclear war.
@@metallicarchaea1820 Not only that, the meteor blast would not have released any significant radiation and thus would not trip that necessary sensor.
@@metallicarchaea1820 And do we trust Russian networks and computer reliability???
@@xapplimatic Technology IS extremely and SEVERELY unreliable, there will ALWAYS be mistakes in the programming , there's always going to be glitches and there will always be things a machine's programming is NOT prepared for, something bad can unintentionally go HORRIBLY wrong. For example, self driving cars are being tested and recordings have shown that they are very unreliable when on the road and unlike a driver, more difficult to halt just in case. Or even simple things such as normal home appliances and devices frizling out over the slightest of things as getting slightly dirty or gain, glitches, microwaves not stopping, phone mics not working. I've never considered the possibility of a fully automated nuclear launch system. That is truly terrifying. Machines malfunction pretty often
its a good thing that some russians said "this is a bad idea" to the doomsday ship, even the best computers have glitches and betting the whole world one seems like a bad idea
But they did it anyway, just without the boat.
Also, extremely big nukes are just inefficient. A when you increase a bomb's size, its destructive power only increases by the square root. For example, a bomb 100x bigger than Tsar Bomba will only be 10x more powerful.

You have spoken wisely.
Hussain Mudasir Not quite.
Yes, it is

A nuclear bomb cannot detonate because it "crashes to the ground". Nuclear warheads are not impact sensitive like conventional explosives.
Here's how it works. You build a normal bomb and it is filled with chemical energy just itching to explode. All you need is a little igniter or shock and the chemical explosives release all their energy at once. Even dropping on the ground hard enough could set them off. A plane crash probably would.
A nuclear warhead is different. After it has been built it does not want to go off. It is almost impossible to set off a nuclear warhead. The explosives used have to be perfectly shaped and have to detonate at precisely the correct time and location meaning the explosion envelope must be perfectly formed. The high speed capacitors used for this are very carefully guarded and it is almost impossible to get one. We needed one for research purposes and ended up meeting with the USDOD before getting approval. The electronics used to deliver the high speed detonation sequence signals are very specialized and far beyond conventional computers.
In fact nuclear bombs are so damn fussy if you left one alone for a few years it would no longer function. Why? Because the radioactive charge is decaying all the time. It will quickly fall below critical mass. Every few years you have to take the charge out and re-purify it to get it back to critical mass which is required to sustain a nuclear chain reaction.
Nuclear Bombs Don't Want To Explode! Just remember this and you will have a better understanding.
If you want a real life testimony as to how hard it is to detonate a nuclear bomb just ask Kim Jong Dumbass about it.
interesting...
Nope, usually not.
But there have been plenty of instances, where a bomb almost detonated.
Because ... guess what .. they have a trigger.
For instance, a barometric pressure sensor.
It does not trigger on impact, rather a mile above ground.
And it is usually human error that have caused many near misses, when
bombs were dropped and such, by accident, and a single fail safe, prevented catastrophy.
Computers, that manage complex systems, to prevent detonation, that are
still running on floppy discs !
For decades, the millitary did not bother with launch codes 00000000, because
the system should work, without the president's approval.
The least of our worries, is detonation, due to impact.
It is all those other things, that we cannot even predict, that can go wrong.
We have been extremely lucky, so far.
Modern nuclear weapons like you say can't be detonated by accident but in the 40's and 50's they had no computers, a uranium bullet was fired into the core of the bomb to create critical mass, I can imagine they might detonate in a crash.
Maybe the Nuclear Bombs have more sense than their owners?
Whats most shocking is that more people now a days probably dont know about this or the extent of Russian nuclear power. Its been good knowing you bois
The perimeter serve one other purpose, it aleviate some stress from the key deciders, when you know that if enemy attacks it will launch nukes on its own, you are bit less prone to do it on your own.
Didn't tell anyone? Tagging something "Top Secret" is the single most effective way to make the Americans read it!
*Our #facepalm
*TOP SECRET!* england is my city. *TOP SECRET*
So that means that if a very large asteroid hit earth that would lead to nuclear war... Nice
Niko Tandashvili It wouldnt because everyone will know that an asteroid is coming for earth days before impact. The ensuing chaos might lead to a war tough
Luca Çakır probably months tbh
Dylansgames yup maybe even years on some bigger asteroids
If a large hemorriod lands on my ass, it will also lead to new clear war.
@@FREEDOMFORUKRAINE2024 If a very large asteroid were to hit the earth.. we would die from that, no need for nuclear weapons or war...

Okay, here's another reality check. When you look at photos of Hiroshima after the atomic bomb had been detonated you see basically a cityscape that has been flattened and turned mostly to ash. It is a mistake to think that the bomb did all of this. The bulk of the damage, particularly turning the city to ash is the result of fire.
Fire is the thing that will cause the greatest amount of damage and literally drop a city to the ground.
It doesn't matter if the fires are caused by war, earthquake, flood, or any other natural and man made disasters. Fire itself wreaks terrible destruction wherever it goes. This is why where I live everyone straps down their gas water heaters or secure other gas appliances.
Your chances of surviving a nuclear bomb are pretty good if you're not at ground zero. Your chances of surviving the resulting fires and weeks of Cholera outbreaks are rather slim.
Hiroshima was destroyed by war. However if you think that a small nuclear warhead can cause that sort of destruction just from its explosive power you are mistaken. It was fire.
In terms of damage, yes. In terms of human fatality, that's left to radiation.
Sean Nanoman Nukes are radioactive, they do the bulk of their damage over time. Even today people in Hiroshima are often born with genetic disorders and are more likely to get cancer.
Sean Nanoman
Thats what are flamethrowers made for
I'm from America, and I find it convenient that it's taught in history to us that the USSR had nukes in Cuba, but the ones placed by the U.S. in Italy and Turkey aren't mentioned. At least they weren't when I was going to school.
Not being American, I can't speak for what is taught in American schools. I can say that it was taught in British schools though. The Cuban missile crisis and JFK's subsiquent deal with Khruschev to remove the Jupiter missiles was certainly on the history curriculum during the 1990's. Whether that's still the case today, I don't know, though I wouldn't be surprised if it has been dropped in favour of some form of social injustice, anti colonialism crap.
I was thinking what if those bombs that were “accidentally dropped" weren’t a accident? Seems suspicious just to actually drop a bomb of that magnitude and leave it but idk
so basically humanity was saved by 2 russian dudes.
Genetix 1 Russian dude 😂😂

Genetix no, humanity was safe before this even happened in the first place. They didn't save humanity, but they put all of humanity in a torture dungeon that we simply know as, Earth. In this dungeon, we are being tortured by the fact that we live every single day of our lives in fear of being killed by multiple nuclear missiles. To put it simply, they threatened the continuation of nuclear war, by threatening the entire planet.

I gather the Perimetr system has been continuously upgraded, especially in recent times of heightened US belligerence towards Russia. Whilst the System IS fully automatic, there are numerous safeguards, where human intervention can halt the "inevitable progress". Of course if all Command structure HAS been lost, then, as far as the System is concerned, it'll be "Business as designed".
