Great video. 30 years ago we went to the Alsea Bay Dock at Waldport and walked in and rented a small boat, crab pots and bait. We had a blast and caught wonderful crab. Tried to do it yesterday, found out boats are all rented out for days in advance . It’s becoming very popular! Plan ahead, if you need to rent!
Looks like you found your new crabbing hangout. Impressive take and you got some Costco sized monsters without the $8.99 lb price tag. I crabbed out of a boat in Winchester , OR in June and I got my limit but they were barely legal so nice job.
Great video, can't wait for the move to Corvallis, your videos are killing me , watching them from Georgia! Please set up the Go Pro next crabbing trip and use fish so we can witness a seal doing its thing to a trap Thanks for doing these videos
Great video once again!!!! I plan on going out in October I hope with my dad! Keep up the awesome videos maybe one day I will see you out there! Take care
dang nice haul pk, im from minnesota and i just got back from oregon, we went out to waldport the other day and i think we seen you out there :) watchin all youre vids and i always hope to run into you when we go to oregon. my family and i go on vacation to newport every year, i was actually born in toledo oregon and most of my family moved to MN when i was young. Sadly my uncle whos lived there his whole life passed away earlier this year, i went this year to say my goodbyes and it was a sad time, BUT watchin your vids always cheers me up :) hope to run into you sometime at least to say hi. keep up the sweet vids!
Dude, I remember in the mid 90's on them docks there. My BFs mom had a coast house there and we would limit out on the docks. Yes them seals were asses back then too..😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤙🏽 Fish on...
PK nice job. If you are looking for a good way to weight your pots down get some rebar and zip tie it to the bottom of your traps. I use two pieces for each trap I have.
I cant get over how laid back the Dungeness crab is compared to the east coast blue claw, the blue claw is vicious and will fight you all the way to the steam pot!
Man!! Sucks when you love seafood, fishing, clamming, and would love to catch crab, but you live in the middle of a dang desert!! Dungeness crab are my favorite! Guess I need to make a trip to Joe's Crab Shack in Phoenix soon.
Great video - thx for sharing! We live in Tahoe but coming up to Oregon for the holiday weekend. Crabbed from the docks in Winchester last time in the beginning of August but only two were big enough (and they were amazing). Thinking of hitting Waldport this time and maybe even renting a boat. Any recommendations? Or we could try Newport too or head down to Coos Bay. Have my husband and 2 kids with me and we all can't wait to get out of the smoke and heat that is filling our skies Just want a good place to rent gear and a boat from. Otherwise we can just crab from one of the public docks. Kids want to go clamming too. I have not researched that yet - lol!
All of the docks you mentioned are good. The best time for dock crabbing in Oregon is in October/November. Night time is better, and look for low tidal fluctuations. Waldport has a good crab dock and the walk isn't as far the dock in Newport. You can also toss crab hawks while your pots soak. Good luck.
No fishing?! 🤣 I love my crab but I love my fish too... I see you get around to a lot of the ports here in Oregon... I'm taking my kayak out tomorrow and I was thinking going out Newport.. what bars do you think are the calmest for kayaks?
@@oregonlife yeah I saw some of your videos lately of you going out Depoe Bay, so I was thinking of trying that until I saw there was a small craft advisory. Newport bar my hair is pretty calm as well... I went to Garibaldi and out into the Tillamook Bay today fought the current both ways... That was hardcore my knees and legs hate me. Oh I'm in the old Town predator PDL. And I also got no fish and three keeper crabs one of them was 7 and 3/4 inches That's my PB!
@@nwnative4139 all it would take is hitting one barnacle and your inflatable would be toast... Seems pretty sketch to me.. Yes I have a fishing kayak old Town predator PDL Hit some barnacles my last trip out tore up the bottom real bad. Keep an eye on the tides as well, currents kick your butt
Hi PK My name is Martin . I lives in Las Vegas Nevada making a trip plan to Oregon in may from 9th to 12th but I needs some suggestion which boat rental I should go with . I will stay in air Bnb in seaside. Thanks for your advice my friend
the main thing is to go at incoming tide so worst cast, you get swept into the bay. If you go at outgoing and get caught, you'd be sucked out into the ocean.
Great video, but you should ALWAYS measure.... no mistakes means no violations. (And people watch YT vids as a how to, teach em the right way). Nice haul.
Bullish BearTrader I believe that is common with the red rock crab when in Washington, but never seen anyone do it in Oregon... the limits are so high and the crabs so abundant (when in rocky areas) that I don’t think anyone cares...
Nice haul. Didn’t do as well in Garibaldi over two days. Just 7 keepers total and some were still soft. Caught a bunch of rockfish on light tackle, though!
Jai Kim yeah but out of state license just not worth it. I love OR though, only stayed there twice overnight in my travels. Do plan on coming down in the near future though.
Hi PK! Thanks for another great video! How long do you usually let the pots sit? And also, curiously wondering, why you decided to buy a hoop net instead of getting another TR530? Thanks in advance!
Soak time varies... a lot. But the minimum time is about 30 minutes for these blue pots - since they can't escape. The Hoop Net was a curiosity purchase. I like them, I might get another one.
@@oregonlife Did you get the Promar Ambush XL? If so I found out they make a heavier one and was curious whether I should get that one or just stick to the regular?

Nice trip guys.Things worked out despite low water an minor seal damage. Thanks for taking us along
Looks like a great day, thanks for the motivation...
So exciting. Love your videos. Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
PJ...you are the King..of Crabbing! Loved watching this video!

Thank you.
Nice. Thanks for sharing. Always love your crab videos.
Great crabbing Pk. Looks like some tasty eating right there!! Thanks much for sharing your video.
Glad you're back

Sorry to hear about your passing. And thank you for the support.
I was crabbing and fishing in Newport, Oregon today and had my PB crabbing trip. I just uploaded a video of it.
Another awsome video PK
Thank you. Tight lines.
Very nice catch, What fun it looks like, take care my friend
Thanks. Be safe.
Great catch guys. Hey PK I screamed out loud when the crab pinched the back of your hand. You are a tough dude.
They hurt, but the trick is not to wiggle or they pinch harder.
Oregon Life good to know. Thanks.

What a great video. Keep up the good work PK.
Wow! That’s a great haul!
Great day for you!!! We only have blue crab and stone crab
PK nice job. If you are looking for a good way to weight your pots down get some rebar and zip tie it to the bottom of your traps. I use two pieces for each trap I have.
I used to work at the Mobil station right there on the corner close to where you were crabbing always like that little Bay

Wish my husband could hang out with PK !!! My husband loves to fish
I love it... is that a Halibut head? "Oh Cool"!!!

Nice looking Dungeness. Went out today in wa and caught some nice size red rock 6 plus inches. Have a few videos and one how to clean them as well.
I cant get over how laid back the Dungeness crab is compared to the east coast blue claw, the blue claw is vicious and will fight you all the way to the steam pot!
The blues sounds like an angry mother in law.
Dungeness can get pretty angry in the winter when they're most lively.
Great video PK, some nice hauls right there. Was this trip recent?
Yes, Sir, Mando. 7/18
That was great. Good eating
another cool vid...thanks PK
Thank you.
Good catch with the crew Pk , Can you try using squid on your next trip crabbing in Oregon . Good eating 😋😋😋😋😋
I'll have to try that next time.

Haha. Gotta make the trip to Oregon and rent a boat to go crabbing. Boat rental in Waldport for about $100.
here's a place that will ship crabs to you but it's abit pricey. www.southbeachfishmarket.com/
Awesome
I hear that halibut ear bones are actually ivory. Might want to salvage those prior to using the head for bait. Nice outing!!
Yes, I used to have a lot of them when I lived in Alaska.
Dude, hell yeah!
Man that looks like fun👍✌
I recall you saying you didn’t like Netarts for crabbing. I’ve got a boat and house near the bay, let me know if you wanna retry Netarts👍🏼
OK, I know that hurt when the crab grabbed you PK. You barely flinched.

I was told that in the summer, the meat in the claws and back arent filled out. Is that true?

Dang there were some monsters in there, nice job! Do you think adding the Shad in there helps a lot more than using just chicken for bait?
I believe so. I will definitely have to get more shad during next year's run. They work great for crab bait.
I thought summer isn't the time to catch dungeness cause it's near the end of the season. Can somebody explain please?
This is unusual, no explaining mother nature.
Killing it
Please take me go with you! 😄. That’s my wish.
can the bar be crossed at Alsea Bay?
I think on a super calm day. But most tend to go out of Newport if they are ocean bound.

PK! Love your videos. I have a 12 foot Klamath. I like to crab in Garibaldi. "How high surf would you recommend going out in the bay to crab?"
For bay crabbing, swells don't matter. Just look for calm winds instead.
Hey PK tell us about your boat and motor . Looks like a beaut. How much?
16' Lund Fury XL - 50 Mercury. 22K drops of blood.
Is this a lake or ocean n where ?
Hi PK! Do you use lead line when you drop your crab pots? Thanks in advance
Any place closer to ca border that has this good of crabbing??
You can try Brookings.
Oregon Life thanks bud!
Would that be a good time to go out in a kayak low tide ?

Great video, but you should ALWAYS measure.... no mistakes means no violations.

Nice haul.
When you have those crabs upside down, they look like alien face huggers.
Are you able to just claw the crabs and throw them back there in Oregon?
Bullish BearTrader
I believe that is common with the red rock crab when in Washington, but never seen anyone do it in Oregon... the limits are so high and the crabs so abundant (when in rocky areas) that I don’t think anyone cares...
No actually you are required by law to retain them its not a pratice used here due to the high mortality rate
I don't think that is allowed in Oregon.
Nice haul. Didn’t do as well in Garibaldi over two days. Just 7 keepers total and some were still soft. Caught a bunch of rockfish on light tackle, though!
Dang you’re allowed 12 ea? It’s only 6 in WA.
come down to crab in oregon and take them back :)
Jai Kim yeah but out of state license just not worth it. I love OR though, only stayed there twice overnight in my travels. Do plan on coming down in the near future though.
@@RV_Chef_Life if you took back 6 extra crabs on enuf trips, the license and gas might pay for itself - lol.😉

That one guy sounds like the abominable snowman from monsters inc😂👍
There was a minion on the boat for a second 16:58
Did I see 4 traps thrown? I thought the rules were 3 per boat?
10 per person? Male or female of legal size??? And curious what kind of fishing is in those bays?
13 male dungeness per person in Oregon. and 24 red rock crab. Salmon can be found here.
@@oregonlife damn 13 males and 24 reds thats a haul ...looks like fun....keep it up bro...
That first crab you pulled, you didn’t even check to see if it was a male.
i welded nail on my doors and they want hit them but one time and they quit.
AWESOME! so much better than burning buildings and attacking the police. GREAT JOB! Love me some crabs
buy a cheap clicker so you dont.have to pull them.back out to count them.
naimas
Stating the obvious. Chicken or turkey legs work just as good
the guy is annoying!! don't you hate it when people get on your own boat and act like they know everything!!!
