I hate those chain 3’s, too. I’ve been using stacked single crochets, but they’re a big thicker than a double crochet. I’m definitely going to give this technique a try. Thanks for such a clear, easy to see, easy to understand tutorial.
Your demonstrations are so clear & talked through at such a calm pace. Any stitcher could follow easily. And you have an excellent voice for teaching! Blessings from Texas! 🥰💗🇨🇱
Jane, I just discovered you as I was looking for motif patterns. I consider my skills as intermediate to advanced, but you just blew my mind. You are the BEST teacher I have found and I have watched hundreds of crochet videos. I have challenged myself to learn new stitches and techniques no matter what language. But you demonstrate so well, and even your voice over and editing is so good! I'm trippin', seriously. You are my new go to. It's that simple. Thank you for existing. I am so grateful to find you. I think I will be crocheting more and researching projects less. 🦋☀️🍻Cheers, new friend.
that is incredibly helpful, Jane, I love the standing crochet you show so well; I slowed it right down and followed it step by step , with a really good and satisfying result. I found this the easiest video to follow for that great tip - thankyou.
@@champof64 I think she meant when she turns her work on back and forth crochet, you would start the next row with this. I'm guessing that was what was meant.d
This is GOOD! I don't like the chain 3 at all. Looks weird in projects!! First time I finally UNDERSTOOD the standing double crochet. You explained and showed how beautifully. Thank you 💐!
Thank you, Jane; I like and appreciate your teaching us this wonderful technique more than I can express. My every shawl and wrap crochet project will be the better for it. 😘❤️🌹
I am at the beginning of my crochet journey. Having masterd the basic granny square,I am now branching out. Thank you for this, I liked your way of dealing with these issues.
Your tutorials are excellent! I have a wip that is an intermediate skill. And its listi g in the written pattern of stitches i wasnt familiar with. Until.now !!! Thank you so much !
I used a similar technique to this but instead of working the cut-end or what I call the tail-end in, I either tie it to the other end of the yarn (because I find tying the ends together and cutting the yarn close to the knot to be neater than working and sewing the ends in) or, if I'm continuing with the same color, use the tail-end to join the round and build the standing stitch of the next round. I like to continue my crochet using the tail-end because it results to pretty much invisible join, both front and back. It is not as easy to frog though as the join doesn't undo by just tugging at the yarn and you have to start your crochet with a very long tail-end that you have to guesstimate.
Great suggestions, I tend to avoid knots, just because I've had a few undo on my in the past lol 🙄, but I know alot of crocheters swear by that method. I say if it works for you, definitely use it. Thanks so much for watching and Enjoy
@@jspcreate This is actually how I do my crochet. I don't often do crochet motifs but I often do work in the rounds and I just hate the visible seam the regular join creates. So I develop my own way that is similar to yours, but instead of working in the cut-end down the next stitch, I leave it as is, finish my crochet round and join the round like you do, then I tie the two yard ends together. While I was developing my technique I actually don't cut the yarn before but sew the ends in after trying the knot because I'm also cautious that the knot would undo. I'll still do the knot-then-sew-the-ends-in if my crochet work is relatively solid, with little to no holes in the design. I do the knot-then-cut-the-ends when doing lace-work (which is what I crochet often) because the sewn-in ends just looks obvious and very untidy to me.
Ah yes, the finer the yarn / thread, the more the ends will show. I do actually knot with finer work for the same reason as you. Definitely more secure because those fine threads are slippery and just darning them with no knots is risky business lol, plus those the knots don’t show because they are small. 👍
Thanks for the suggestion, not really familiar with stained glass or magical lantern in crochet. I just crochet from the heart. I never know what is going to show itself. Thanks so much for watching.
So glad you are enjoying these. I do have a series on working in ends using my Mandala Square as an example. The playlist is called Crochet In Colour Tips and Techniques. I'll drop a link in the description to this video
What is the blue and gray stitch count ....I use a magic ring to start ...for those that are beginners they would need an explanation for the blue and gray😊 chain 4 or magic ring
This isn't actually a pattern, just a sample to demonstrate the standing double crochet on. However, I believe the blue round is 12 dc that was worked into a magic ring, but you could use a chain foundation ring and the off white / grey was 2 sc in each st = 24 sc. Hope that helps.
That is a different technique. This one is for joining a new yarn. More tutorials for that in the future. One suggestion is stacked stitches. Thanks for watching.
@@jspcreate You must please show us how to do that. The ch3 is really an eyesore. I usually make my join in the corner and do the sl st from behind, but I would love to see how you do it. All your work is so beautiful and I love watching you.
That's so much simpler than the other technique I've seen. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
I knew you’d figure out how to do this! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks, I am liking this method, my current go-to!

I use the standing DC at the end of rows, but had never thought to use it in a round. Thank you!
Your Welcome, so this inspired you to try it in the round.
Why's it required at the end of rows? I don't understand
@@champof64 I think she meant when she turns her work on back and forth crochet, you would start the next row with this. I'm guessing that was what was meant.d

I ❤ this method. Anyone I teach to crochet learns all the alternatives to chains and slip stitch joins 😂.
Thanks, it is funny that Chain 3 is the standard, really these are so much nicer.

I absolutely hate using chains for double or triple crochets. I’ll actually use a stacked single to get the height I want and it looks pretty good.
Yes, stacked are a lot nicer. I'm going to add those in to the lineup soon too. So many better alternatives out there right?! Thanks for watching. 😊

I struggled to apply this to a treble crochet so I’m using stacked singles instead, which isn’t quite right. Any ideas?
I am working on a treble version that I like. I will share when I get there. Stacked is an option but I agree, there might be a better way.
