Stassi started to decline as Ohtani started to struggle without Trout-Rendon late. I'd expect his performance to pick up when he isn't being hit cleanup
Injuries and needlessly giving Suzuki time behind the dish also hurt him some. He has the least games played out of any catcher on that top 10 by fWAR. He had more WAR than JT Realmuto on a per game basis, even.
@@cduncan6182 Yes a lot of early injuries limited his playing time. When the Angels were well out of the race they decided to give the two an equal amount of starts sadly. On another note, 40% of Stassi's strikeouts were looking this season, an astronomical gain from the season prior, I'd expect that to balance out next season which is a benefit to him.
These were some solid predictions bailey I'm really impressed with you scouting ability in figruing out which players will breakout as theres a drive into deep left field by castellanos, it will be a home run. And so that'll make it a 4 - nothing ball game. I don't know if I'll be putting on this headset again
You deserve +2 for Brad Hand in my opinion, because when he arrived to the Mets I would have to stop watching, I’m sure he allowed more runs than appearances. It’s like he got worse after each new team he arrived to
As a Jays fan, I'm surprised he ended with an ERA below 4. He was terrible with us and literally cost us our playoff chance, and I heard nothing but complaining from Mets fan whenever he pitched (although Mets fans also have bashed guys who perform well like Diaz, Lugo and Loup, who have all done well for them). I expected his stats to be far worse. How he had so many saves is baffling.
Kikuchi was so terrible down the stretch that the Mariners skipped him in the rotation with the season on the line and made deadline acquisition Tyler Anderson go on 3 days rest twice in the last week. I think you get a middle ground no thumbs grade on the Kuch IMO.
Bro Austin Riley is THAT MAN! I scouted him in A Advanced ball in Kissimmee, while He played with guys like Acuña, Soroka, etc. I knew the how absolutely talented this kid was. The power, the excellent defense at third. I was in a awe. And now he’s crushing MLB pitching
I think the castellanos pick deserves at least 3 thum - as there’s a drive into deep left field by castellanos and that’ll be a home run and so that’ll make it a 4-0 ballgame
Hey Bailey, ever thought about adding some simple quiet music to the background of vids like these? Not saying ur voice is not very soothing but it makes the silences that much louder. Great vid!
Me: Oh boy, a new Foolish Bailey video! Perfect time to have some food while watching some quality content Bailey: "That is a big honking zit right there."
I love when people put their money where their mouth is. NFL draft speculations are filled with high praise and potential, but no one follows it up at the end of the year to see if their predictions come true.
It's interesting because you I've watched baseball for years and grew up around the games and I'd be glad to make some picks for next year without checking any stats and compare them to your picks. It would be fun
As an new fan of baseball this year I took to the angels, mostly because shohei got me into the sport but max stassi became a favourite of mine and it’s nice to see him get some recognition.
In your defense on the misses, Singer’s numbers were inflated by a couple particularly awful outings and Montas didn’t look good until June. Then he was excellent.
I like that the dislike doesn’t mean he dislikes them as players; it just means the projections he expected this year. I became a fan of this channel because he never suggests players are busts simply due to the sheer difficulty of the game itself.
I love grisham too but I started to dry heave when you said that he's the next grady sizemore. too much swing and miss in grisham to be a star but he's a very good player still
Riley was cash money. Even when he was slumping this year (not for long), he was still producing enough to generate WAR. And low-key he ended up being a top three defensive third baseman by DRS and UZR was comparable
The Starling Marte one hurts. Did you go over your picks w.r.t your newly created besbol stats to see if they accurately predicted the outcomes better/worse than you?
Great video. Couple bones to pick and a question. -Picking former “best pitcher in the world” David Price and giving a “no grade” is extremely generous given that he’s in the minor leagues right now. -your Mariners pitcher had a >6 era in the second half (which you owned up to) but you still gave a +1...sus -(by Braves bias my be showing here) you deserve no fewer that 316 thumbs up for that Austin Riley pick. He was hot garbage for a year and a half after his hot month when he got called up. If he can repeat this year, I might completely forget the name “Larry Jones” -Why are you looking at OPS+ instead of WRC+? Any particular reason you prefer the former?
Riley was destined to be this type of hitter. We've been watching him through the levels. He was never hot garbage, he was adjusting to the league as he did with every level and at every level it looked ugly for a second, then he'd adjust and that was it. Dude would just go ham. Scary he's still developing. Real scary for the league. Acuna, Albies, Freeman, Riley... scary deep power for years to come.
As a mariners fan, kikuchi was eyewash. Ever since the pine tar crackdown he was awful and was a scheduled loss every five days when we needed him most in the playoff run. Definitely not a breakout and I can only hope he is not in a Mariners uniform next year
Fun fact: Great American Ballpark has a higher park factor (113) than Coors (112). So why don't people scoff at castellanos's OPS like they would at a Rockies?
You can't take a thumbs up for Kikuchi. He was so bad, and so inconsistent in the second half, that the M's skipped his start down the stretch, when they really needed to win. He said "I'll pitch if they ask me to." Anderson (yes, THAT Anderson, the #5 starter that came from the Pirates at the trade deadline) said "Give me the ball."
Yusei Kikuchi was awful this year, I’m sorry. After the crackdown of foreign substances his performance plummeted hard. He was even taken off the rotation down the stretch he was sooo bad. Haniger really should’ve been the all star rep.
some of these players may have broken out, but none broke out quite like bailey’s forehead

I will allow a +3 for Riley....get a third arm.
The third arm down there goes up for Riley.
Idk about a third arm but I know Riley’s got 3 legs
Crazy Tyler Mahle stat. He had a 2.30 ERA in 101.2 IP on the road and a 5.63 ERA in 78.1 IP at home
Like a Julio Tehran split
Pitching in the Great American Small Park can't be fun. Put him in Oakland or KC different story.
WOW.
he killed me this year in fantasy
I really want the reds to trade him. He’s compete for a Cy young if he didn’t have to pitch half his games at Great American Ballpark
Castellanos did have a lot of drives to deep left field this year, I think that's obviously a great season.
I don't know if Bailey will be putting on such great predictions again. I don't know if they'll be better. I don't know if they'll be worse.

I signed Carlos Rodon for free before the fantasy season started. The Austin Riley segment is how I felt when he threw that no-hitter
I knew Riley would be a good player, but man his he doing amazing.
I was so happy to see Starling do well. He was always one of my favorites for the Pirates
Actually, it's easier to pick players who will fail, since there's always the possibility they miss a good chunk of the season to injury.
This is true, but I wouldn't count injuries as failing. If Ryan Mountcastle tore his ACL on Opening Day, it would've been a neutral grade.

The Angels can be sooo good if they can get even just average pitching. I hope they can sort it out.
In your defense on the misses, Singer’s numbers were inflated by a couple particularly awful outings and Montas didn’t look good until June. Then he was excellent.
The pressure of performing in the Majors might be comparable with the pressure of the pimple on Baileys forehead.
