Woodes Rogers is what Edward could have become if he never became a pirate: Both are ambitious men obsessed with prestige and glory, having successful careers as privateers in the Royal Navy, along with having failed and broken marriages due to their maritime ambitions, plus both ended up joining secret organizations. Edward ended up becoming one of the greatest assassins ever, learning to fight for something greater than himself. Rogers never learnt to fight for something greater than glory and prestige, ending up expelled from the Templar Order because of this. Edward has a clean and neat scar on his left side, Rogers has a very messed up one on his right side.

Rogers was an interesting Templar but the only thing that bugs me is his need for slaves. I like that Templars like Robert de Sable, Haytham, Torres, and Crawford Starrick accept anyone regardless of ethnicity, race, gender or previous affiliation. Yes Roger is willing to recruit former pirates but Still owns slaves
Woodes Rogers also was a slaver in real life. His father was a slaver, and when he died, Woodes continued the family business, though was in ruins. If it helps, in his last days, he was penniless and was thrown into a debtor's prison.
The real Woodes Rogers was an acclaimed governor who cleared the Caribbeans of a great deal of pirates and brought order to the region. He would make a good villain in this game yet he was more the good guy in real life.

Actually if it wasn't for Kenway killing Duncan Walpole in the first place, the story would've ended WAY differently (worst of the worst where the templars would prevail). In perhaps 90ish percent of the story, Edward was a d*ckhead who wanted only riches and glory to bring home for his Caroline. Along his way, Edward killed every possible way the templar could get their hands on the observatory. He killed Du Casse, killed Hornigold, killed Laureano Torres, killed a fat slaver Laurens Prins, helped saving the other assassin's with the Templar hunt quests, helped deter the invasion on Tulum, and killed the Sage. Kenway basically did the Assassin's dirty work so that the Assassin's stayed clean.
I'd like to say, and excuse me if you find this a rather intimate confession, but this moment at 16:03 makes me feel queer things in my gut as a male. don't want to question it, really.
