  • Thank you ARTinoise for sending me this! I absolutely LOVE when a new kind of instrument that has something special comes out! I was so excited when I was one of the first ones to get my hands on one of these. A recorder that you can play normally, learn & play it with an app or use it as a midi device.

    Nice 👍 video, thank you so much! I liked your videos about the concert flute, too.
    What I am wondering - on the recorder, I use the nail of my thumb to shift octave rather than the tip. Will this re.corder thing recognize the nail or would I have to change the use of my thumb? Might be the second thing requiring getting used to besides the in-line 7th hole.
    Another downside is the absence of an old school 3.5 mm 🎧 connector. So many people would appreciate a silent recorder for practicing purposes. But sound generation probably takes place inside the mobile / inside the PC.
    I'd probably buy one if it could work standalone electronically without a mobile - obviously, it can't 😕.

    Hi, Heline. Great honest review. How does it compare to your Ewi 5000s? Thanks 😊

    • @HelineFay
      @HelineFay  2 роки тому +3

      Hi!
      First of all, it is a lot cheaper than EWI5000. Current prices on Thomann including Finnish VAT: Re.corder 149€ - EWI5000 555€
      One of the biggest things is that it doesn't have a soundbank included. You'll have to pair it up with the mobile app to use the app sounds OR use it as a wireless MIDI device to use whatever VST Instruments you have. So it doesn't work as a standalone silent instrument like EWI5000 does.
      Another bigger one is that you can use just a bit over 2 octaves (the normal recorder range). I am not sure though if you can program alternate fingerings to have a bigger reach. You can switch the octave easily but not while playing like on EWI (where you just use the octave rollers with your thumb).

    • @ilanmetoudi
      @ilanmetoudi 2 роки тому +1

      @@HelineFay Thanks for the info! I've just started learning on an ewi solo, with some clarinet experience. It has everything I need except for wireless midi. Audio out with speaker, line out and midi for vst. Octave rollers takes some getting used to as well as correct fingerings. Breath control is also an issue, but that's expected

    The latency is always a problem with BT devices. Did you manage to reduce it since you made this video ?

    • @HelineFay
      @HelineFay  2 роки тому

      The latency is ok when using it as a MIDI device, I haven't used it with the app at all really though. Apparently, from what I've heard, the latency is smaller with apple devices in general.

    Hi, and thanks for the video! I ordered a re.corder after watching the review by TeamRecorder.
    Yesterday my re.corder arrived, so I charged it and downloaded the app. But it won't connect to the app even though I'm following all the steps. The bit where you click connect and the re.corder is supposed to pop up on the screen to connect goes wrong, the re.corder does not become visible. It just won't work, not on my android phone or windows 10 laptop. Obviously I contacted artinoise, but I thought I'd ask here too, has anyone else had this problem and how did they solve it?

    • @RingForJoy

      Stefanie, I'm guessing that two months on you have solved your problems - but if you haven't, reply to this and I will help you if I can. I'm using the android app and also connecting to Windows 10 PC and not having any problems with either.

  • @jounikorhonen
    @jounikorhonen 3 роки тому +1

    Bluetooth inherently has a noticeable lag. That's the main reason keyboards or drums or guitars are not at all interested in it though it would make wonderful wireless things to all of them.

    • @adolforodolfo6929
      @adolforodolfo6929 2 роки тому +1

      There's no significant bluetooth lag with the re.corder itself - but you mustn't send the sound from the phone/tablet/PC to speakers/headphones using bluetooth, because that does have a noticeable lag - you must connect speakers and headphones by wire.

    I never understood why this instrument is called recorder

    • @xarddam
      @xarddam 3 роки тому +1

      same here.
      In Germany we simply called this : Flöte or Blockflöte (made of wood).
      And a flute (Heline#s main instrument) we called Querflöte.

      A lot of other languages has a bit more descriptive name for it. The Finnish name translated directly to English is "beak flute" and if I remember right a lot of other languages have very similar name to it.

    • @betacygni

      Because the very first ones came with a memory card slot. No, seriously, medieval minstrels often used them to perform ballads etc where they were recounting a story - so they were "playing back a recording", or so I read.
