This from a retired paving/walling contractor with almost 1/2 million sq. Ft. Experience. Here in the northeast we MUST excavate a least a foot deep and place crushed stone 8”+ in 2 or 3 lifts as a sub base. Then we use a stone base with a tiny layer1/2” or less, of sand . Our winters will destroy a all sand based paver area in as little as 1 winter. We make a much deeper base with 3 “ lifts to support car and truck traffic. Each lift is mechanically tamped. The technique shown here works well in frost free climes.
im doing my own backyard cuz ppl like you put such high estimation quotes. it's not that labor-intensive at all. Landscapers are starting to raise profit percentages to insane amounts. smh
👆. Ur kidding right? Watched all 5 parts and this looked incredibly labor intensive to me. I think he sed this was 1300 sq ft so not a small job. If you can do it urself great...save the money. But this guys got employees to pay and deserves to make a profit too. I never saw where a price was given, but $10k+ wud not surprise me materials and labor.
Theoretically the drain is supposed to be flush with the paver and the paver should have enough slope to run straight to the drains as far as the joints there supposed to be filled with a polymeric sand
Question: I laid down red concrete pavers and then used dry motar mix and swept it into the cracks and then wet it down, brushed and sqeegee it off and let it dry. It left a grey film on the pavers, how do i get that off? I have seen products such as concrete and motor disolver from sakrete but wont that remove my grout also? What is the best way to remove that film from the pavers? Thanks :)
I usually lay the pavers out then mark and cut the boarder out after with a concrete saw. Keeps you from having to make all those cuts one at a time. Regardless of how you do it it’s still a tedious task
How are you recommending this as a DIY project - this definitely seems like a crew job for sure. It like more 5 of you guys working -- so many cuts if this is not a multi-person job, it would takes weeks to do this by yourself. What areas do you all service?
Got a question, when you set the first paver boarder in concrete. Did you lay the pavers in the sand flush with the boarder height pavers or did you lay them a bit higher due to compaction. Heard from some people that you need to go 1/4 or so higher than pavers set in concert or existing concrete slab.. Just wondering from your experience. Nice job by the way, thanks for sharing.
End product is looking good. Another way to safe A lot of time is to do boarders last. Lay out all pavers a little past the edge then saw cut in place with a chop saw/quicky. Remove outer sand and place edge stone in concrete.
Everything is good , just missed to install a better sub base to make it durable over the years, and the screeding technique is not the best, the looks is great no doubt.
Slow down the video for about 2 minutes so you can show us how youre putting the pavers in please. The whole video was super fast. Looks like a great job
@@OdellCompleteConcrete Thanks for the prompt reply. May I ask your opinion on the following? If a paved area is adjacent to another area, such as a patio, shed, etc.... does a paver edging still needs to be placed on that area? Or, is it ok to leave that area without the edging? Thanks😉
I thought you are not supposed to stand on the sand once it is screeted.... if I were this home owner I think I would be fairly upset if I seen how that was done. So many ppl walking on the sand and screeting as you go and constantly rechecking your angles. If you screet right and you don't have people walking all over the sand in the first place you won't have to keep checking your angles so much. Idk.... it feels wrong to me.

Odell Complete Concrete i work for a hardscapes company and we do nothing but paver patios, searing walls, grill stations, etc and setting up string lines is a waste of time. go square off of the house and just start there. just have to make sure your pavers aren’t getting out of alignment by just checking your joints and making sure they line up. also sand based paver patios don’t last very long over time
the amount of detail that you've put into the project is incredible!
Yeah never miss a step 👌and ty

Yeah makes sense for winter climates also sounds like a lot of money to do pavers up in the northern areas
I've been watching a lot of your videos to get tips and tricks for doing projects around my house. I love the videos you and your dad make!

You guys work well on your own. Beautiful job! Is your dad worried? LOL. 👍👍👍
No the more the merrier
What weed prevention did you use? Weeds will grow straight through that base and sand, guys gona have to bust out the weed killer in a months time
You and your dad are ballers. been watching for awhile thanks for sharing your knowledge.

For sure
Killing it man
Are the drains really that effective sitting at top of paver? Doesn't the water sift through the joints and not run or puddle on top of paver?
most of the water will run to the drains

Haha yeah it was a pain 😂
Amen to that.....lots of extra work on the overall patio, my boss would break my legs for taking so long, but looks pretty good. Nice job guys!
Lol your boss must be Mafia I hear they love legs and knee caps.... 😂😂
I was thinking the same thing. im also worried if thats an all sand base
It hurt to watch them walk on the base lol

Orange County

no, its standard sand

Why did it you guys use electric pipes to level area ?also great job

Why don’t you all use pipe/PVC set at the desired grade sloping to the drains and screed the sand that way? Great work btw
Had a lot of different sloping angles and thought it was easier using the method I did.
Ya just think of it as the sand is concrete and you screed On top of the pipe instead of along the bottom of a hung board.
End product is looking good. Another way to safe A lot of time is to do boarders last. Lay out all pavers a little past the edge then saw cut in place with a chop saw/quicky. Remove outer sand and place edge stone in concrete.

what's the point of 90 degree line????
90 degree will be done automatically though.

you ever use screed pipes ?
No
You still lay pavers on sand?
What slope did you use?
1.5%

You might already know this but you should never walk on your sand once it’s been leveled or screeded
