    great video never thought of all those little details that make the work of leveling stuff and having the edge stones not collapsing with the sand. Definitely uses a little cement based mixture on the side of any patio/walk way if i ever do this type of stuff.

    (**A note on the edge pavers**)That "haunching" will only support the edges if the pad is as it's shown; which is an entry or landing pad outside the door or any area with very light traffic. If you're installing pavers where there will be heavy traffic, you would have to install either metal edge bars or at least 6" thick concrete (not mortar) edge to keep the pavers from coming apart at the edge. Great video.

    Quick question - after haunching you said to wait two days before compacting. Wouldn't the plate compaction drive the pavers lower into the sand breaking the haunching? I'm completing my project soon and trying to figure out these last steps. I appreciate any advice!

    Can we mix jointing sand with dry cement to fill the gaps then wet it after?
    Second question: I've seen builders mix cement and jointing sand and spread it all over the flat bed of sharp sand, put the slabs down, then wet the slabs for a few minutes. What do you reckon? Is it a good idea?

      Unless it's parmeable paving it could be laid level. But yeh high point near the house and chase height round the house level 150mm bellow FFL OR VENT
      height to stop dampness. Set your runs on a turn of the bubble away from house. If It has to run in towards the house for any reason put in a gravel strip or if it's a big area that could shed loads of water then put in acco channels.
      They videos are all bollocks. Correcting lines that run off??? Set 2 lines up and set them square and lay up and out along the lines checking them every now and then. Blocks should be laid tight to keep the bond strong.

    Hi, Thanks for video. May I ask you I have prepared my base with road base and compacted it well. Does it have to be 100 % level. It has few high and low spots at few places that I am not able to rectify to 100 %. Would adding pavers sand on next step not fix these few spots. As I am doing 2cm thick sandstone pavers installation how much would you recommend that pavers sand should be poured in. I was thinking 2-3 cm. Please share. Thank You !

    looked good, lots of great info. for me, not sure i would plate compact on top of jointing sand makes me nervous i will leave a stain mess.. guess it better be darn dry! also the haunch is good for those small pavers but i'm using much larger 14" square, 3" thick so best i beef up the haunch more.

    Wanting to pave a small enclosed backyard. House entrance is facing east, out in the yard there are two walls on the east and south, a retaining wall on the north, how would you set the slop to direct the water away from the house? Thanks

    • @aboilcrawl1279
      @aboilcrawl1279 8 років тому

      You could slope it towards the retaining wall, there should be drainage installed. Or permeable pavings.

  • @robertgrlic6505

    One question... How can you have 65 mm at both ends if you dropped by 30 mm (pitch) at the front end?

    • @DiRteEsTaNkInG
      @DiRteEsTaNkInG 3 роки тому

      Because they are working off the string line which is their finished height ,gave it 30mm fall but still 65mm below the string line which is their finished height

  • @scorpiuswireless1
    @scorpiuswireless1 5 років тому +2

    Fuck the standards on Sheep Island are pretty low. That paving will sink into the stormwater or sewer pipe trench after the first heavy rain.
    The smarter countries use concrete under the paving, quicker and easier. Then compact sand. Use 25x25 aluminium rails to screed off or screed using profiles like a concretor. Pre cut your halves and use straight away. Use dumpy or laser level to set heights quickly and accurately. 6/10 for the sheep shagger.

    Not sure how flex pipe works for screed rails lol. I’d HIGHLY RECOMMEND using galvanized 1” pipe for this part. Plus, without a containment border the sub grade will just fall out from under the pavers.

    Sorry to say it
    No professional paves a job like this
    Fair enough, some of the basics he explains are true but it’s a slow way to do it
    I would have that area paved in half the time with the same outcome
    You don’t need to string line out the whole job if it’s a small patio
    Also his tip to wet the sand on the side so the sand doesn’t come out underneath is silly as you want to go under the paver with the cement to make it stronger. Metal screed straps not pipe. Compactors of that size compact to a depth of 150/200mm so you just put all your material in and compact on top of both the sub base and screeding sand.
    I seriously doubt he does it for a living.
