  • In this Blender 2.8 modeling video which is a series for creating an excavator that is supposed to be 3d printed I model the first part, the bucket.
    As an inspiration I used the video of a boy creating a DIY excavator model with hydraulic syringes:
    • Protótipo de Escavadei...
    As addons I use my free Fast Carve addon for modeling:
    github.com/jay...
    And to be able to add simples vertices as objects I enabled the Extra objects addon for meshes.

    The more I see the way people modeling the more i really realize how powerful blender is and that there really are over 9000 ways to skin a cat.

    Thank you for your video. When doing design for 3D print I found that Boolean Unions often caused non-manifold edges and zero faces unless I did lots of manual editing. Is Union better in 2.8 and do STL files export and print well?

      I'm curious about this as well, did you ever find the answers? It appears that he is using fast carve which might behave differently than Blender 2.8 boolean modifiers, although i cannot be sure. I only suspect this because I read elsewhere that there are plugins that do boolean operations better than the builtin boolean modifiers.
      Thus far I have been unsuccessful in making suitable geometry for 3d printing with blender :(

    Thanks for the video! I got a 3D printer back during Christmas and was hoping to get to use it with some Blender models. Can't wait to to get the time to do it now!

    With 3D printing, many times you will be making parts to fit with existing real world parts, because of this you need to enter actual measurements, In Blender 2.79, I have the transform pane always available, and so it is easy to size parts without using a measuring tool, I dont see the transform details/panes in this video, I am hesitant to jump into 2.8 at this time (work load is high at the moment) can you clarify?

    I’ve been modeling something and did a bevel on a corner with multiple edge lines like you have and I was under the impression I had to add matching edgers to the side. On the side of your bucket you didn’t do that. So is it ok to have an n-gon face like that for 3D printing?

    I started using blender just over a year ago and I find it really hard to switch to 2.8. It feels like I have to start over learning blender. Do you have any suggestions on how to overcome this switch of interface?
    I really like the way you make your tutorials, they are quick and straight forward. Keep them comming! Thank you :)

      I had a hard time adjusting to 2.80 at first as well but once you get the hang of it it is much faster and smoother than previous key binds.There was an option at one time to revert back to 2.7x key binds but I think they dropped it, not near my PC to confirm..

      @sjonjones4009 5 років тому +1

      I can confirm the key binds for 2.7X are currently available in the Edit>Preferences>Keymap, there should be a dropdown menu to select 27X. This applies to the current 2.80 build as of 2/21/19.

    started in 2.49b have to relearn for 2.79 as away for a few years and now it seems have to do it yet again for 2.8. Not a fan of the UI change so far. Where is the Transform menu? did not see it

    The speed you move the mouse around the screen makes watching very difficult. MY eye balls are jumping allover the screen to keep up. I have had to use half speed but then watch at full speed to hear the narration. Pleas slow mouse movement down

    This is a great looking workflow, as a long time max user I’m trying to make the switch to 2.8.
    How would one go about using this techniques for games modeling though? There’s a lot of ngons here, how do you quickly clean up a mesh in blender?

    • @JayAnAm
      @JayAnAm  5 років тому

      You dont need to remove NGons if you create parts that are not deformed in most cases. checkout my Video on NGons here: ua-cam.com/video/FVAztbYhZAI/v-deo.html
