Hi there. I would like to tell you that I am from Pakistan and you pronounced it wrong, this weapon is "Churaey" not "Charay" please pronounce it correctly
I don't think it was only a sword, i think they could also use it as a Meat Cutter, if they hunt a Boar and roast it they could also cut the meat easily!

Fighting with a heavy blade is like punching with a 2 pound weight at your wrist. No impossible but the longer you go the harder it is tk win.
I think that the weight was the deciding factor because they were even in every test. It is like a race that is won in .001 seconds.

Of all the blades up to this point on the show, this is one of my favorites. The idea of the T-shaped spine is brilliant for strength. If I had to sword fight, I'd want something strong like this.
Today that sword is known as “A giant kitchen knife”
As an Afghan this needs correction, its not "charay" its Chara which means knife in Pashto. But we call this a Tura which just means "sword" in Pashto language.

Chara in Pashto is derived from the same root as Chhuri in Urdu (again means knife), was really confused by the added Y at the end. your post clarifies that.
Aren't Turas longer and with a more gentle taper?
@@ritamayachattakhandi6732 No its not, its strictly and Afghan word which means knife. "Churi" and "Choora" just Indian corruption of this word and hence wrongly pronounced. Tura just means sword.

For your info "! Afghanistan is not a desert country" It is 65 % mountainous with one of the most beautiful sceanerys in the world. In the winters its heavily under snow, And has very pleasent sommers.

Sooo.... the exclusive club of bulletsplitting swords isnt really exclusive at all. I have yet to see a sword break..
Yeah I never really liked that test because at most it'll just dull the edge, they need to stick to bashing the sword into stuff so we get a bit more of a show
It seems to be a fairly useless test honestly. Unless the blade is about ready to break, it doesn't seem like the bullet will do much to it. The bullet has dulled some blades a bit, but that is about it. The test feels more like it just exists to be showy, rather than a truely practical test.

Really shows how having a heavy blade swings both ways in this show, sometimes the opponent's blade breaks cause it's too light or thin and that gives the 'edge' over to the guy who had a heavier weight

Watching people struggle to make these swords with all the latest tech, makes me wonder how blacksmiths in the past managed to do it without any of this tech, goes to show how impressive blacksmiths in the past were
The blades of the past didn’t look as magnificent as what you see in the movies or even in this show.. Imagine having an old style forge with limited tools a a huge rush and demand for blades since most likely there was only one black Smith and a couple apprentices and those few people have to forge for an entire army and town.. Yeah. Movies are misleading lol
@@gravityracergt oh yeah definitely, there is no way those weapons looked like the way they show them in movies, especially, just like you said, they would've had to make tons of weapons on a rushed time limit, so looking pretty I think was least of their worries, I bet as long as it would keal, that's a that mattered back then
While the blades are well designed for stabbing British surgeons in the 18 hundreds noted tribesman only used the blades for slashing based on the wounds they were seeing. The surgeons regarded that as a mistake. I have no explanation.

It's almost always the lighter blade that wins
If you can move the blade faster you tend to win fights.
In the episode with the claymore the lighter blade lost. It was not stiff enough to perform. It is a rare thing though.
If it is supposed to be light, yes.
Also, consider that these judges probably have a flexibility about this, I trust when they call a blade heavy it's because it is WAY heavier than it should, and not just slightly
I mean logically it makes sense, lighter means easier to wield and typically a faster swing. However I believe there has been a few times where the lighter blade broke on the durability test, so making a light weapon is good, but you could run the risk of making it to weak.

The Khyber Pass I’ve been there a couple times
There are reports from British Surgeons saying that if these warriors used their swords to thrust as well as cut they would be able to do infinitely more damage. This tells us that they mostly used the weapons to cut and chop, rather than thrust.
when the tests end like this, they should make one more test, "blade against blade"... because the weight its not enough to judge a blade at least for me.

@@midnightmosesuk Both terms are technically wrong, the British just called it "Khyber" because that's where they first observed the weapon but it was also used in Afghanistan as well. The term "Knife" is also wrong because Afghans called the smaller Pesh-Kabz dagger a "chara" which means Knife in our language Pashto. We have always refered to these as swords.

Why do these guys insist on gripping end on for the quench? Turn the thing sideways even if you need different tongs. But better still keep it in the oil until it's cooled enough.

No, the khyber knife was NOT used for penetrating through armour. It was a cutting weapon. It’s actually the pesh-kabz (the dagger version) which was used to penetrate through chainmail armour.
Some research on these shows beforehand would be beneficial.

Its look like that you but its not, its a short sword. Classical Khyber swords had guards, thicker blades and looked more like swords. Victorian Khybers (like this) were generally unfinished products.

The weight of the blade costed Brian the loss. Otherwise his blade outclassed Steve's blade in sharpness and durability
I always thought of it as an overlapped kitchen knife. Till I got stabbed by a kitchen knife. Those things to hella damage.
I don't know if it's a joke, but yes, some kitchen knives will do a lot of damage, especially in the thrust (as they often lack heft and stability for chopping). I do know someone who got slashed by a pole-mounted kitchenknife and indirectly, I do know more people who had been injured or killed by kitchen knives. A good one can even go through the skull!
