It's always amusing to see the home forges of the final round and it's one guy with nothing but old hammers, a coal forge that's just a hole in the ground, and a quench tank made out of an old trash can VS a guy with a 2000 sq ft building with air conditioning, every power tool you can think of, including Big Blue, and a full on plasma cutter.
@One God One Christ I believe the company itself made a joke advertising of the fact that digging isn’t the main purpose of that tool. I’d still love to have one to have fun with and to be honest to dig a small trench around your tent/ camp or clean up sticks on branches why not. But it’s very flat so you won’t dig as fast as others but you will be able to defend yourself against a zombie attack.... given that a shovel is your primary choice of course..
Does anybody else feel that Mike had a advantage from being able to work at a commercial machine shop? There is no way the forge he worked in was a at home forge just seems unfair to me.
@@ajitkaliya Give a painter a paintbrush and an old piece of chalk, see which one he does better work with. Tools don’t make the man, but pretending they have no effect on the end product is naive
The funniest thing is - in Russia these Spetsnaz shovels are made of the simpliest steel for stamping! So they are not Forged in Fire))) and these are not Spetsnaz (or SWAT) shovels, but trench or sapper shovels
Can i just say that once again, they didnt test a weapon for its true purpose. Digging a trench/dug out. The blade that one seems to have a much less suited profile for it. Might still have won but staying true to design intent is as important as lethality and structure integrity.
It's the poormans power hammer!!! Not bad for being almost free, when the real deal costs probably an arm and a leg and maybe a couple of arms and legs more... lol

Imagine being an SS soldier walking through a forest in Russia and getting ambushed out of nowhere by a burly Russian soldier with a pair of deadly shovels shouting "Die, Western spy!!!" in their native language...
Those shovelheads are relatively good, but there is a general design flaw both of the contestants had on the handle. You need to make a nice curved bulb at the end of the handle for improved grip and easier throwing. Normally these shovels have a round shovelhead but these are also fine because they are easier to stick into a target. Good job contestants! (Forged in Fire should have done a gravel digging test too on these. The wood test doesn't really show the true strength of the edge needed.)
Was not a special forces shovel but used by all forces. Cold Steel company added "spetznaz" to their product for marketing reasons. With that said, great weapon.
This is one of the closest ones I’ve seen in a while but nonetheless you can tell who’s gonna win. I like to guess who will win after they finish the weapons but before any testing. I used to do blacksmithing work and today I do woodworking so I can usually gauge what looks good and it’s usually pretty easy based on that alone.
I would love to see a finale where they shall make a Kwan Dao/Guandao - its an interesting weapon from China and i would love to see how it will go in the tests.
I’m always surprised to watch this show and see people do the same things that have been critiqued harshly by the judges in the past. They don’t like round handles.
You use a spade (with a fairly straight/flat blade) for cutting into the soil, and a shovel (curved/scooped blade) for shifting soil/sand from one place to another. If you want these to work as edged weapons and also as spades/shovels, then the round handle is necessary. If the handle was oval and optimised for hand to hand fighting (which you only do occasionally) then it would be the wrong shape for digging (which you probably do a lot more often).
Best tool-weapon hybrid. Perfectly legal just about anywhere. No cop would bat an eye, even if one was so inclined to keep it in a vehicle or even carry it down a city street, especially in the suburbs.
I do have one of these shovels and I only sharpened one side of it. I have it stores on my ruck pack and it is by far one of the most useful things I have other than my cigarettes 😂
An MPL-50 is an entrenching tool, it also digs a grave and it can put you in a grave. You can also use it to cut the wood and make planks to construct a coffin, which they can sit in and row across a river to a grave site. Then they can cook a farewell meal on it and serve it, all with one tool... can't do any of that with a swiss army knife.
