I've been curious about elsa morante myself! fabulous list 🖤
and VERY curious about this bonjour, tristesse adaptation...
I also want to lean towards my longer books this year, or actively pick one up each regularly! I have found they just fill my cup a bit more even if by the end they are my favourite story.
Pew is great; poor things is fantastic and the road gutted me. Amazing list 👏🏼
I feel like I’ve put together a stellar list and everyone has me even more pumped for it.
Same regarding Poor Things- added it to my TBR bc I want to read it prior to watching film . Read Pew and Birnam Wood this past year
I feel very motivated after seeing your list. And I am also looking forward to seeing your future review videos.
My goal this year is to read more authors from Africa. I already bought some books and I am planning to start reading as soon as I am done with my exams.
What a great goal. Let me know what you end up reading.
@@r.enee.morris Will do. 😊
I would be interested in a buddy read for The Sellout. It is on my shelf for far too long too.
Absolutely yes! Making a note.
Fabulous list of books! The Road used to be my favorite book, so I can really recommend it :)
The Bluest Eye is another favorite of mine (next to Jazz)!Toni Morrison is such a fantastic writer 😊
You have to read Bonjour Tristesse in summer! It’s so lush and bitter-sweet, fits perfectly in the summer time ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️
It’s summer here and I did read it, it felt like it had to be done that way and it was perfect.
oooh the ferrante comparison has me even more excited for lies and sorcery!! i was sold by all the natalia ginzburg talk in the intro. i didn’t realize durga chew bose is adapting bonjour tristesse!! i’ve seen her ig posts of some movie stuff but wasn’t 100% sure on what it was until now - exciting!!!
Morante could be Ferrante!?!? No wait that’s me , I’m Ferrante.
The Road remains one of my favorite dystopians of all time .
Fab list! I highly recommend the audiobook for The Sellout - I’m very fussy with audiobooks but this one is stellar. Intrigued by Elsa Morante but haven’t got to Neapolitan Quartet yet. When are you planning on reading Birnam Wood, it’s on my TBR too😊
No set plans for Birnam Wood just when I feel like it. If you’re keen to read together flick me a message. I will indeed be listening to The Sellout on audio.
Meryl Streep does the audio for Heartburn! I recommend!
Oh I will definitely be giving that a whirl. Thanks.💜
Taking note of this! ✨📝
Rene, such a great list! I adore Bonjour Tristesse. A much more nuanced story than first appears.
Iris Murdoch is a focus author of mine this yr. Yay! I read her decades ago and want to see how her writing lands with me now. I recall it being so impressive.
I’ve just finished the Sagan and really loved it so now even more excited to see the film.
Let me know what other Murdoch you plan to read as I could be keen to read her with someone.
@@r.enee.morris , Rene, I’m going to look through the Murdochs the next time Im at the library to re-familiarize myself with which book is which. I’ll keep you posted!
@@r.enee.morris , oh and I’m glad you really liked the Sagan. I read her 2nd book last year…and liked it almost as much. What a talent!
A very good list! Birnam Wood is on my list as well. I couldn't believe how many people listed it as a favorite for last year!
I’m just going with the curiosity this year and trying whatever perks my ears.
I'm in the US and the Poor Things book with the movie tie-in cover wasn't available and so I found it on EBay. I did that with Our Wives Under the Sea as well to get the better cover (UK edition), in my opinion.🙂
I do love a floppy US edition, the UK editions are a bit stiff for my liking.
Such a great list!! Exited to hear your thoughts on so many of these.
Yay, thank you!
I want to tackle some big books this year too - lies and sorcery and the lonesome dove are on my list as well !
I can feel myself slowing down with my reading this year, so I want lots of big stories to sit with for a while.
I cannot WAIT for Durga’s directorial debut with Bonjour Tristesse. If you can’t wait, there’s also a 1958 version starring a very young and beautiful Jean Seberg that I think perfectly embodies Cécile.
Oooohhh hot tip. I will indeed be watching that. Might also need to reread Durga’s essays in prep for it.
I had no idea this was coming. Yay!
Omg am also doing The Bluest Eye for 2024. Buddy read pls?? 🥺👉🏼👈🏼
Yes absolutely. 💜💜💜
