They might feel more comfortable talking about something with one. It’s ok to respect that. That’s just life. That said, I get the shock/hurt if you’re really close to your kids. I still think they have the right to their privacy and their choices and that’s okay. Also if it becomes a habit, kiddo says everything to one and not the other, then we need to have a bigger discussion about my relationship with my children.

I’m with Keon on the “trust vs betrayal” thing with my child. If the issue is something big, and my advice helps or fixes whatever problem my child is having without the child ever knowing, THAT IS putting my child first (as Tony put it) and it wouldn’t feel like betrayal under those circumstances. My child’s well-being is more important than one of the parents feeling guilty inside.
The question posed is not life threatening. It is something i can wait for to be brought into the loop when my child is comfortable opening up to me about. Im not gonna get mad at my partner for not telling me right away for something like the question posed. Im just glad they came to at least one of us to get the ball rollin.

That child/parent secret question is a tough one. We can all say what we would do, but when it happens to you it may be different. We had a similar situation with our oldest daughter two years ago and I was the parent that was the last to know. When everything was all over, she said I didn’t want to talk to you because I knew you would say xyz but you were right.

Keon definitely was that kid that got mad when he was left out the loop 😂 the kid is going to come to any parent they’re comfortable with. There’s a reason why they’re not going to tell you (or the other parent). Long as the child as coming to somebody you should be happy, you don’t need to know. And if you do the child won’t tell anybody anymore. You don’t want that. That’s why there should be 2 parents, y’all both are better at handling different aspects in your kids life. For me, me and my mom have talked about stuff my dad will never know, and I appreciate her for that. Y’all took it to the extreme with the life of death though.
I agree with Tony AND Keon on the spousal betrayal vs. Kids betrayal. I feel like as a human you're going to feel some type of way if you're left out of a situation dealing with your child because you love them so much. Also, I would try understand why my spouse would keep the situation a secret.
