Maya; I just realized how tall your dad is! He seems like a great guy. It’s also cool hearing Aladino giving kudos to Leo on Tally Ho, one talented craftsman to another. It seems that the pleasure of your dad working with your husband brings you real joy, I hear it in your voice. It’s good to hear the happiness in both of your voices.
Sanding the gussets was a sound step. To the unpracticed eye, it appears superfluous, but it saves you from countless splinters during the handling of the parts. You were taught well. 👍🏻
It saves the tarps as well !
It was an essential step! As others have commented, it will help prevent the tarps from tearing as the wind affects them, and also prevent splinters.
And the splinters will damage the Tarp resulting in leaks.
Great work folks but before tarp day add diagonals (not hor or vert) to front and rear façade or the first gust will collapse your tent sideways. You might consider a few diagonals in the roof structure as well. Keep up the great work!
sure is nice seeing your dad! Cool how quickly your Canadian accent gets stronger when you're back in Canada, eh? When you tell Aladino that you're so proud of him I always love that. You're really good people. I feel so privileged to have y'all in my feed.
much love from Switzerland to Aladino and Maya! My Brother was a big fan of your show and loved the build. Unfortunately he past away a few days ago. To sad he will see your finished work from up above as soon as you have it done. All the best for 2024
Sorry to hear that… wishing you lots of strength and good things!
Aladino's ingenuity amazes me. He can so think out of the box, to create his vision. The two of you are amazing with how you tackle your projects and maintain a joy filled life. You are honest, beautiful, and strong and willing to share it all. Have a wonderful New Year with the continuation of your restoration of Magic Carpet 2 🥰
As a Professional cabinet maker & a professional structual steel Layout & fabricator and a certified welder, a tradesman for 30 plus years, you did everthing correctly.
Love the music.Playing on my TV at the moment.Magic Carpet.Steppenwolf inspiration?.Violin possibly my favourite instrument. And Magic Carpet Ride is possibly one of the best ever.
The weather is about to get cold and ugly, and the wind has been for a few days now. I hope you two stay safe and warm!
Very safe and warm! All is well here :)
@@SailingMagicCarpethallo Aladino könntest du mir die holzmasse schreiben die du für das shed benutz hast , danke dir im Voraus, Mit freundlichen Grüßen
What a contrast to your feelings before the holidays. Great to see how you've regained your enthusiasm and impetus. Tally ho!
I wish you Both a Wonderful and Sailing full 2024... Much Love .... :-)) xx
No way I can make it to Friday again. It was so much easier when I was so far behind and could watch your vids whenever I wanted to....even binge watch.....but now I am all caught up and have to wait til Friday like everyone else. Congrats on the boat shed......when you launch your boat I will bet you that the boat yard will at bare minimum cover your material cost to buy your shed. Its a win win in my opinion. I agree with one other poster....Aladino you have never said that you were tired before even after sanding for hours on end......so slow your roll a bit and dont burn yourself out chief. Good luck you guys!
I had anticipated the sanding, no epoxy primer and 3 top coats though😄
Your evening view is spectacular!
Amazingly quick assembled this work shed should supply you with all the comfort and protection needed this winter. Wishing you all a very Happy New Year! Great your in Canada for the finish and am looking forward to the launch.
The shed skeleton looks great. Lots of room to stand on the deck of the boat to work under it. It's a good thing that coastal area doesn't get much snow. Welcome to Canada. I hope our government hasn't put any time restrictions on Aladino's residency.
Glad to see you guys back with Dad helping out. I can't wait to see the goat finished and you sailing finally.
With endeavor comes emotion , we are all with you all the way. Go magic Carpet, glad you mentioned TALLY HO another class act..
This is a testament to Aladino's skill as a carpenter/wood worker/boat builder - no shortcuts!! Shortcuts are the solution for the unskilled. Can't imagine a musician being okay with missing a note here and there and then be happy with the tune.
Well said! Aladino is a master craftsman, his work will safely carry his family anywhere in the world they care to go, in whatever weather comes their way
Great to see one YT channel I enjoy, making progress helped by watching Leo’s early days of rebuilding ‘Tally Ho’ - also glad that your frame isn’t so high from a H&S viewpoint… Well done - looking forward to your next update, thanks. M
This episode brought back old memories of a lobsterboat restoration I did winter 2001 / 2002. I built a similar shed for my project. Here in Rhode Island we get heavy wet snow. Being a frugal New Englander, and a bit lazy by nature, I designed the shed to have minimal cutting ang measuring. All the lumber was stock size. Ridge pole was 1x4 ledger board 2x4s were rough sawn native lumber. Did I say I was cheap or frugal? 4mil clear plastic from Home Depot wrapped it up. 2 bundles of lathes secured the plastic. It was so warm in the shed we used no heat and hand to mow the grass all winter. Beleive it or not it took 4 guys 2 1/2 hours to put up. Labor cost was a 30 pack and 2 pizzas. They did it after work and finished before dark in early November 2001. I was amazed. Saturday of Mother's day weekend I disassembled the shed by myself. Stacked the wood and used it for projects over the next 5 years. I really enjoy watching you both bringing that boat back to life.
Not a perfectionist, but rather a precisionist? And we all love you for it. ❤
Team work impressive! Welcome Dad. Bought the song “who you are with” PS crazy weather here no ice fishing on MB lakes due to temps & rains 🇨🇦 ❤
Well Shedd , Add a galvanized wire on each top corner linked to the ground foot of the opposite side in the big lenth and also on the side in front and the Back of the boat that the shedd stay square in the heavy wind .
Bon courage and stay safe together..........and a very good year for Magic Carpet........
Impressive! Efficient and sturdy. A pleasure to watch come together.
if Aladino is building it its going to last forever.....and is going to be perfect, like a swiss watch
Nicely done, Aladino. I bet you appreciated the decent weather for the first few days of the build.
What a difference this will make for you! It's always so fun to have a quick project, especially when most of the boat projects are quite extensive.
This episode takes me back. My Dad and I built exactly the same type of shed over my 29 footer in my driveway out in Surrey back in 1981. She was a beautiful, slim, deep and racy little cedar on oak cutter which I did a complete refit on. You guys are doing a great job! Greetings from the Coast!
Great job. Very similar sort of design to what I'm fixing to build around my project boat. Mines going be a bit beefier since my rotten old wooden ship is going to be a long term project. I still have to have it technically be a temporary structure in order to not run afoul of the municipal bureaucrats.
Nice, quick, and effective. Thankfully no worry of "snow load". Just a few freezing rain episodes to keep attention to. I've appreciated the workmanship you two have demonstrated over the years on your channel. I understand Maya is not a lover of the building but the sailing. I selfishly enjoy seeing your boat work. Thanks and good luck this winter!
Working with a dear family member always means so more then with a hired hand. That bond is stronger then anything else out there. Be safe, from the Philippines 💞
Boat Shed looks like it should be sufficient Alidino. I got a kick out of you Maya when you said, " that wasn't an necessary but, He can't help himself," LOL I think your right Maya about that one. You guys crack me up, I can tell Maya you both really love one another and that's nice refreshing thing to see nowadays with all the hate in the world.
Aladino is a master craftsman, and understands that the sanding will prevent tears in the tarp, as well as splinters in hands! He also loves the charming Maya enough not to be disheartened by her uninformed gentle teasing. My respect for him grows, it is great that he is feeling comfortable enough with the camera now to let his quiet personality and obvious expertise shine through.
That is just plain impressive. May you have cooperative weather.
Fantastic!!
And very nice by announcing others rehab watch.
Tally Ho is my favorite one
On every sens.
You are number 2😁❤
Well Done! And you avoided much frustration with broken furring strips making a bow roof shed. This was a much more time efficient build.
I think thoughtfulness and intentionality serve you both well. Great job!
You do well with the logistics of your projects.
Very efficient design and build. Nice! And, let me guess, in the construction, nobody got splinters in their hands when assembling the pieces, not will that happen in taking everything apart again. Well done.
The shed looks great! It will make a huge difference. So glad you were able to get the boat to Canada!
Good work. You made a plan and worked it through. Your attention to detail is why the boat is going to be spectacular!
When erecting the framework you need to use the diagonal bracing as a means to assist you in holding your frames stable while you lift the next one 😊
Great structure, quite a challenge to set up when so wobbly. Looks fit for purpose
Hello Maya and Aladino, now that MC2 is in the open,it is easier to appreciate her beautiful below the water lines, together with a good flare and sheer, she is truly a go anywhere boat.having previously watched your attention to detail she is going to be a stunner worthy of the work that you have both put into her.Thank you for allowing me along.Cheers and all the best for the coming year.Roly🇬🇧.
That will make every job so much easier and will allow work on wet days.
Like a storage container, I think it is a necessity.
I learned that the hard way, believing I couldn't afford to build a cover.
It would have been so much less expensive to build the boat if I had built a cover.
all what you do is of highest quality even the boat shed amazing!!!
Great job! Those gussets are a good design and make all the difference in stability.
the dad determinedly not speaking while aladino sanded the gussets had me loving you guys
Great job. If you find you need to, you can provide intermediate roof support for your tarp with rope rather than wood for less money and easier.
Good for you for maintaining your standard. Great job!
Well Done, Kudos to you Both and love that Maya's Dad is there as well !!! Priceless!!! Wishing you a happy New Year and Please take care of each other!
Professionally produced video - very enjoyable !!
Congratulations to you both. Nice shelter for your boat. Looking forward to see the coverage and it’s efficiency to the different weather conditions like wind, rain and sun.
Always impressed w/ your work!
In this episode, we learn about the "Dini-Cathedral", an economical Swiss-made boatshed for fully grown 🤏 boats, easily errected by two in basically no time, citing the Battery-boat people's roof, Leo's/Tally Hoe's first roof and a lotta others while doing it all with the cheapest supplies available in the shortest amount of time wasted on petty side-projects ...... Patent pending.
Also in this episode: trooper-dad becoming a regular 👍
A happy New Year and a healthy 2024 You all. Thanks for sharing!
Can your Dad pleaseeee do a tour of his camper van!
I always like it when one Vlog that I watch references another that I watch. In this case Aladino mention Sampson Boat Company (i.e. Talley Ho project). It is nice to see where one group knows (or at least knows of) another group.
Good job, I’m glad you didn’t obsess over the framing, good enough works for a structure that only has to last months rather than years.
One thing nobody has mentioned is that I am sure when you are finished with the structure, you will have many offers to purchase it.
Why would anyone start from scratch if one had the opportunity to purchase a structure ready made.
I am confident you will not only get the cost of materials back, but will be compensated for your labour.
Can't wait to see you sail round New Zealand you're sure to have boats sail out to bring you in. Then we party. May the wind gods always be with you.
Very nice structure
Happy New Year the shed went up quickly and should provide the protection you desire.
What a great way to build a shed!!
Wonderful job guys!
Nice teamwork on the enclosure ; basic framing for maximum coverage & minimum cost. Probably will work perfectly for your purpose well done indeed .
Good to hear your logic for your choice of shed design. I had seen the other UA-cam channels you mentioned.
Happiest New Year to you both, thank you for the wonderful videos you shared last 2023 and we are looking forward to watch your adventures in 2024. 🎉
Oh and the shed is fabulous!
Top work you three.
Yay dad. Maybe Mum will make a cameo soon. Nice work folks!❤
great looking structure , great music and great video, thanks
Awesome work guys!
Shed looks nice but watch out for those Vancouver wind storms.... they are wicked.
Happy New Year! 🎉
Thanks!
Thank you!
Aladino is not a perfectionist he is swiss, which in my experience is a step up from perfectionism.
Awesome work again!
You might want to use a heavy plastic to allow light in.
Looking good 🎉 what a nice sunny day it was to build the shed. I didn’t know the sun came out much up in the pnw 🎉
Since you mention Tally Ho here. Is there a specific reason that you never did a collaboration with Leo while you were in Port Townsend?
I am sure that you share a huge part of your audience.
Boat refit becomes barn-raising
You guys are awesome.
Doing it perfectly the first time, usually means not doing it again.saves time in the long run. Triangle bracing in the gable end will help
Happy New Year guys! The shed looks superb. It will definitely keep you out of the nasty weather to finish this refit. Cheers!
Maybe I done it but happy new year to you all, i had last year also a same tent bilt over my boat and I had make walking planks on the tent so i standing next the boat on hip height that was so great dan you can work ease on the outside en inside working. End ondertekend planks you work ease to the onderwater hull.
In Florida, 6 mil plastic lasts about 6 months but greenhouse plastic lasts about 7 years. This greenhouse plastic costs just a little more than construction plastic.
that roof structure is just like building a hull upside down
Love the music :)
Ey, Talyhoo rebulding crew are doing well. I'm pretty sure tou'll do even better ;-)
3:17 into clip 😮😳😳😳 sanding edges…. WOW! 🤯
Great work
Looking Good 👍
looks great
If your faced with a major blow see if you can get a length of old net fishing or football ...sling it over the top and then hang a line each side of half gallon type milk containers from it the wt spread over the top will hopefully be enough to stop the wind from flogging and lifting of the waterproof plastic tarp cover that can trigger the ripping . 🇬🇧
Very good Aladino. This shed shall be well needed part of you getting Sailing Magic ready. Question is that Vancouver I see in the back ground ? I know out there in the Vancouver area you have been getting some high winds and has that affected you so far. Keep up the great work both of you and catch you next week. Happy New Years
Good ole boatyard barn raising. Nice job. Well planned and executed. Nice to see Brian helping out as always. Hey Aladino, I hope you got a chance to rest up you're looking a bit tired there son. Anyways thanks again guys great episode 👍🙏. Stay safe
I've been called a perfectionist many times. But then I learned to say no I'm a realist, I like it really perfect that way I don't have to fix anything!
☮☮☮👍👍👍🤩ALL THE VERY BEST FROM POWELL RIVER
Maya - there is another YT channel with professional joinery . . . Rounding the corners is part of the wonderful things these people do!
If Aladino ever builds you a timber frame house (using 6 inch square oak timber or bigger) you can expect nothing but the best
That's true haha! There's a time and a place though -- on a beautiful timber framed home, that's the place. On a piece of plywood used for a temporary tarped structure... not so sure.
@@SailingMagicCarpet . . . Although wood splinters in people's hands are no fun at all, yours or anyone elses :-)
The building will be moved and eventually sold . . . quite a few times !
A true craftsman cannot do less than what they know to be true craftsmanship. If it’s worth doing at all, it’s worth doing right and well.
That swiss-made, SIA-ground ply parts obviously add *_a lot_* to the thing's resale value - it ian't just a temporary make-do boatshed, those ground edges turn it into the Dini-Cathedral that will have competing bidders in a queue, not just random buyers.
There was no great need for so many cross braces on the walls but there is a requirement for cross bracing in the plane of the roof that can actually be a lighter gauge. It would be beneficial to cross brace the gable ends rather than relying on the portal gussets to take the side wind load. The other thing worth considering is to make the structure wind permeable so as not to get differential pressures between inside and outside that will lessen the load on the whole structure. The tarp external skin can be constructed to allow wind through but no rain.
@clivewilliams3671 - May I ask you ~ how would you make the tarp skin permeable in the manner that you suggest?
I appreciate all of your suggestions so far!
@@doracotterell2863 My thought would be to have a lap joint in the side sheeting in the gable ends and maybe down the sides depending on the amount of free air I could induce. The top lap would be stood off the under layer. The roof layer could be a single sheet to keep the rain off. The object of the exercise is to prevent differential pressures that a sealed skin would create. In the horticultural industry they have wind/weather brakes that consist of strips of membrane that have full height vertical slashes that do a good job of keeping out most of the rain but let the wind through. If these were a solid sheet they would be a huge sail that would require substantial posts. On farms you will often see cow sheds with boarding cladding with gaps in between that does the same job, again a porous sided building has to resist a much smaller wind load that cheapens the structure considerably.
@@clivewilliams3661 - good ideas Clive! Where’s your boat?
@@doracotterell2863 I would love a boat but I am resigned to never having that experience. I have a wife that gets seasick on the local boating lake and once we were travelling to France from Portsmouth by very large car ferry, she was seasick whilst tied up in harbour!
Thankyou .
top 3 favorite channel..
Oh wow!! Thank you so much, that means so much
good one.
