And back years ago in the early 90’s when I was doing this with old BFG All terrains replacing the soles on my Doc Marteens people thought I was crazy . Never had to replace my boots again until I was bored of them .
Years ago I worked in a prison. They had a shoe/ leather shop. There was an inmate that would use a lawn tractor tire just because it didn’t have any metal wires thru it. He made some wonderful wedge soles with them.
We were putting tire treads on our boots back in the early 70's,we had a shoe and boot shop near our house,and he would sew on the tire tread to our boots,we supply the boots and tire tread.
CHALLENGE: Build a 6" Traveler w/ Vibram Cristy sole using a 55 Last. I would think if you add 2-3 sanded/tapered midsole layers from arch to heel keeping the bottom flat, then cover with a solid rubber slip sole, a Traveler with the 55 last arch support could work.
I did the same thing to a pair of hiking boots that I loved. I just slathered on Shoe Goo and clamped the car tire soles on. Worked fantastic but oh my god they added so much weight!
Thats awesome, I believe more boots should have that sole technology. If they will carry a truck thousands of miles, they will probably carry a man a lifetime.

Also every thing that you can wack yourself is at ankle height, i also cant have metal on the outside of the boot and must be steel toe. So my check list is -Plenty of support for long days standing n anti slip -All leather and able to resist weld spatter -No/minimum metal on the outside of the boot -Ankle protection is a must, 8 inch boot -Must have steel/safety toe Im a 10 wide, what is your suggestion?

would of been better to keep the sole/heel as a one piece wedge sole? Its the first pair of nicks boots I seen that dont look "just right" The way its done looks a bit odd?
Does it have a steel toe variant? I would definitely be interested if there was a steel toe version designed for construction. If it had a steel plate in the bottom, that would be icing on the cake.
I have 1 issue with every pair of boots I buy on top of the toe in the center I get that evil little dent that looks like I dropped a metal rod on them lol how can I fix that or I'm I wearing boots wrong lol
I tried that, but those DAMN steel belts got too wiry! What grit was that sanding belt that ground them so well, and what more did you have to do to make the sides smooth??!!

Doc Martins are not even close to the quality of a pair of Nicks, but hey if it works, go with it if you can't afford Nicks.
