Excellent episode! I’ve baked 3 rock hard, whole avocados in foil, in the oven at 425 for 32 minutes at our altitude, and, it turned out really well. Used them for guacamole and no one could tell the difference. No tummy aches either. Tried the microwave first, but, couldn’t stand the rubbery, almost chemical smell.
Idk, I usually buy unriped, and just wait a couple days and use them as they get riped through out the week. I'm Mexican and I love avocados on everything, I thinking being patient is the best way. Also I tend to buy them in Walmart which you have two choices either super ripe or green lol
Agreed. They travel better as stones. Once they are safe on the counter, they can become soft and delicate for eating once ripe or tucked away ripe in the fridge to last a few more days to a week for another time.
If I get any chance, and is sunny, i let them outside to ripen up. This actually works, it takes two or three days, but they're almost entirely and 100% naturally ripen. This trick works the best, especially for fruits like apples or bananas.
11th way? I specifically buy 20 rock hard avacados. Remove them from bag and place in refrigerator. Then, as i want to use them, i take out of refer and let them sit for a few days. Don't know if they could keep longer. But am happy that i can have perfect avacados with a minimal of planning.

Overnight magically it had ripened near no other fruit or vegetables, just resting on the countertop by it's lonesome. I had to rearrange my menu plan asap.
You will not know when an avocado is ripe until you press it lightly with your fingertips and it feels soft enough to mash. Could be overnight or it could be a matter of days. You will know when it is ripe by the way it feels. Over ripe avocados might as well be thrown away as they are brown and rotten. Sometimes you can salvage a part that has not turned brown. Do not buy over ripe avocados as you will be wasting your money. I don't understand how grocers can display these over ripe fruits or how people can buy them.

I'd rather use microwave force softened avocados in my guac than too much cilantro. You can make up for the richness by incorporating a bit of olive oil. Up the garlic, introduce some cumin and you have something that will blow the minds of people who've only tasted store-bought guacamole without risking one in ten party people wondering why you added a bar of Irish Spring to the dip.
Oh you must be one of those people that tastes cilantro as soapy. You have the olefactory receptor genes that pick up on the aldehyde in cilantro. I think its something like under 15% of people have that gene. I do not have it I can eat straight cilantro no soapy taste at all.
@@RobRuckus65 I get why people say it tastes like soap, but honestly, a bar of soap is more palatable than the wretch-inducing chemical taste of cilantro.

I gave up because for now, I have to depend on Instacart shoppers and can’t really trust their avocado-assessing abilities. I’ve been fooled too often myself. So now I’m getting frozen diced avocados. They’re pretty good, actually. I repackage in 2oz portions so they don’t all fuse into one frozen glob. They thaw pretty quickly and the pieces can be easily pried off with a knife. I like to eat them by themselves or maybe sliced on crackers. Ooh I’m gonna pickle the next avocado I cut open too early. Nice one thanks
I can see an enraged Jared blowing fire into the produce section!
I tried to copy some of your recipes with unripe avocados. The only problem is that I could not get any unripe avocado. Every store "just" had the perfect ready-to-eat avocados! What the grocery. But the pickled ripe one was so tasty... Thanks!
lol..... "..so you burn that grocery store to the ground." as the cadence to your words slow down, that's hilarious! Greg (garden grove, CA usa)
A moment of silence for all the brave avocado who had to leave so prematurely.
i left avocados in the fridge for like a week and was wondering why they were still hard bc i thought that was what u were supposed to do and had to throw away like 2 out of 3 avocados bc they were unripe and i hadnt seen this video before that point and opened them unripe and didnt know what else to do with them
also i did the lime thing and it didnt work and it was still rubbery
Don't know if you've ever had Thai papaya salad, which uses unripe papaya, but I imagine unripe avocados might be good in it in place of the papaya. They typically use fish sauce as seasoning but you can use soy sauce if you're vegan.
If you're ever making hashbrowns and have an unripe avocado, dice up one of then hard seedy bois and cook 'em up. Really good.
