    I still have a couple of these sitting in pieces that I need to rewire and resurrect. *We used to plug one of these into my car's power amplifier that plugged into one of those old giant truck and hatchback boxes with 2 subwoofers and 2 piezo tweeters lol.*
    It was easily louder than a Marshall halfstack and we made the comparison to be sure!
    Now, being so many years later, I should add a gain control when I repair them. This was always one of my favorite sounding distortions because it was basically a full blown dirty channel of an amp but without the gain knob.
    *To this day many of us into thrash and death still pursue a sound that's based on this thing, we just want it more controllable!*
    This demo sounded wicked and is nostalgic.

    I love this pedal special when it first came from DOD. Many people doesn't really understand how this really works or how to use it. First this is not intended for the weak type of distortion since the gain is fixed beyond regular high gain pedal, that is why most people complain on feed backs ang buzz/bees tone grinding sound. Second thing is never consider this as stand alone high gain pedal. Because the best combination that you can tame the beast inside that box was an EQ pedal. That really sounds totally different when you engage it all by itself. When pairing with EQ sound more thicker, heavier and massive tone. As if it was breathing when it chugs. A friend gave that tips and became my favorite pedal since then. Unfortunately it seems DOD and Digitech discontinued that pedal. Want to have another one if I will have a budget for back up. I still have that pedal. 😊

    I still have my old broken one that I hope to get fixed or else replace. I remember one time in high school I plugged a bass guitar into an ART Tube MP Studio and sent the 1/4" out to the Death Metal and the XLR out to my interface and recorded that in parallel using the cab sim out on the DigiTech and it sounded downright EVIL. Did the same thing for guitar but with an amp modeler (Zoom G7.1ut on the Dual Rectifier sim into my Hartke GT100H), guitar into Tube MP Studio, 1/4" out to a splitter, and put a TS9 in front, and sent the output from the Death Metal to the clean channel with the EQ all at noon on my dad's old 80's Peavey Bandit teal stripe. It sounded MONSTROUS, the most evil sounding stereo rig ever. I wish my dad would sell me that amp.

    I picked one of these up last year along with a Grunge and realized that they're both very similar, so much so that they share the same PCB. Nice review!

    as for the metal zone, this pedal sounds way better when plug directly into a power section, skipping the preamp part.
    I had a great sound with mine plugged into a SansAmp GT2 in its cleanest setting, directly into the mix table.
    Try it !

      @@BeersnGearsOfficial Oh, really that better? So as you mentioned, then I must check your review for TL-2. Nice work, mate! If I may ask, how would you operate on a BOSS KATANA 100W combo when trying to get a metal sound rather than its "brown" sound?

    • @BeersnGearsOfficial
      @BeersnGearsOfficial  5 місяців тому

      @@Liushenfanushui the Boss Studio is an amazing feature. Hook your amp up to a laptop or desk top, and you can tweak your sound in basically millions of ways. I'd use a basic metal distortion, then add an eq and parametric eq, and dial it in to my liking. I loved my Katana.

      @@BeersnGearsOfficial Oh! Thank you for your instruction, mate! About the EQ part, I recalled the actual similar experience I had. I happenned to EQ'ed my BOSS ST-2 into a metal tone, with a GE-7 followed it, mids scrooped a little and sharp edge increased more. I want to say that EQ pedals do work!

    Thats supposed to be Guts, Pain, and Scream. Thats why it doesnt sound like the DOD, wrong names for the EQ bands.
