Scalpers were the bane of my existence during Ps5 launch, even then I’d say it was still harder to get the switch at launch….sucks we gotta go through that all over again.

Honestly, what do you expect? Trying to do something like UA-cam or Twitch as a "full-time" job is a stupid decision- always has been. Rich needs to find an actual 9-5. Even if it's just some part-time work. Something more stable and reliable than UA-cam money.

They do it (and refuse to emulate, but that's another story) JUST to hold it in front of ALL their friends (which are more like minions), that they have something that their friends do not.

If you have a youtube channel then you as a person are the brand, if someone else starts to take over your channel in popularity it won’t end well if they end up leaving or whatever. So if that was the case it was prob the best decision rich could make. He only did it in a scummy way is all.

Some people say that Nintendo is for children. But Dspgaming plays Nintendo Switch and you can't deny that Philip Burnell is a man.
Actually he's not, because he doesn't act like it. He wants ALL his equipment given to him, like a child, instead of buying the equipment (like a proper adult gamer does). He also complains about losing, but doesn't do anything about it (he's stupid enough to still think he can "git gud" at video games, which is not possible once you're older than 30 years, and I know this from experience, and he's over 40), also like a child.

I mean, if they wanted to stop scalping, they could always make it that you had to confirm a preorder through the nintendo website, and each unique shipping address could only reserve two consoles for a year.
Then you could proceed to purchase the console through the retailer you want, like amazon or walmart.
It was insane that scalpers were getting their hands on hundreds of them at a time in the past. That means there was no limiting factor for them to order.

I know it's impossible to completely get rid of scalpers and scammers, but isn't there some way to prevent these parasites from doing as much damage as they did with the PS5 and Xbox Series systems? I don't want my gaming experience as an honest consumer ruined by these heartless assholes.
Sony started limiting sales to PSN members, and limiting them to only one console at a time. It's not a great solution (What if someone has 10, 20, 100 accounts?), but it did make a difference.

Not sure if this would be the best approach, but I think the best way to stop these scalpers is to simply only sell consoles in stores at launch for the first few months. And when you buy a switch 2, you can only buy one, and you have to show ID so you can’t come back and buy another. Sure they could go to another store and get another one, but that would be very tedious for scalpers and they would probably eventually give up and say it’s not worth it.
They could do like Steam and require an account and purchase in the past month before you can purchase one.
This is why I am not afraid to hang out a generation or two behind. I am happy with my standard S22 and probably won't upgrade to a 23 until next year. It is just easier to move around (and cheaper). Those scalpers will at least make an effort but we shall see what Nintendo can do. I probably won't get one for at least a year and a half.

If the switch is already that close to the 3ds then I would assume it will jump it in sales before its end of life. The switch is expected to sell around 15m this year which will cause it to be the top selling console. Plus that doesn't include any that get made between now and then.

The 15.5 million sales estimate is for FY 2024, which ends in March 2025.. meaning it will sit at around 141 million units by then. Looking ahead, it will probably sell another 10-11 million units for FY 2025. So Switch won’t beat PS2 in year, but it will probably be sitting at around 151-152 million units by FY 2025 (so March 2025).

No matter how many they make, that’s just more to scalp…. A stockpile of new switches can still be scalped, I don’t think that can really prevent anything so they need to find a way to limit it and maybe prepay or require a deposit and preorder direct with Nintendo to guarantee a system, limit to one unit and maybe open it up to people that have paid for the online service first, give them a window to preorder and guarantee a unit…. Similar to how the steam deck was rolled out

Scalpers are the reason why I never bought the PS5 so I can believe that the same issue would affect the Switch 2. That said I have trouble believing that Nintendo actually cares about that. They are the company that promotes scarcity. They release games in very limited quantities before pulling them from the shelves and it took me multiple YEARS to be able to buy their classic controllers. Nintendo clearly believes that they do better when people can't just buy it.

I don’t expect the shortage to last nearly as long as the previous console launches. I expect the next nintendo console shortage to only last several months before the demand normalizes compared to the PS5 and Series S/X that lasted 2 years. The main reason was simply timing of those releases, they chose the worst possible time, during the pandemic where supply chains were just absolutely ruined.

It doesn't matter how many new Switches come out on release date, the entire initial stock plus several subsequential restocks will sell out due to demand and scalpers.

Hopefully they learn from steam with restrictive pre-order methods. Maybe start out exclusively with either my-nintendo platinum points or go by years subscribed to Nintendo online first. I honestly think it won't repeat itself. The whole scalper thing was in 2020 to 2021. They tried to keep it going with the PS5 and Xbox Series X and it failed miserably.

Another remark about scalping…. If there wasn’t an eBay - there would be no scalping. Online marketplaces provide a method for people to scalp, I can’t imaging a someone buying up 100 switches and selling them out of the trunk of their car! It would be a real PIA and the scalpers would really have to work hard for the money! So as good as all these secondary market sites are for collectors and people that are just trying to make money by selling off stuff they no longer use, the downside is that sites like eBay inadvertently created the scalpers we all hate today.
Should've stopped the scalpers during the PS3 era, now it's TOO late.

I’ve never bought a console a few months or even a year after its release. I usually end up getting a console one to two years after release, but I might get the switch 2 close to day one and I want that to be a possibility
I remember trying to get a switch oled i was lucky to preorder it. I was so excited. I hope i can get a switch 2. I did have to buy my ps5 from scalpers. Man its wild how fast time went. 2020-2021 was hard for gamers because of scalping.
I'd laugh if the actual reason is because the console will be cheaper to make in March 2025 vs September 2024.
