I’m telling u now, a ps5 pro isn’t gonna fly off the shelves like a ps5. Ps5 already doesn’t have enough games to warrant any type of upgrade. What we have is good but there’s no need for stronger hardware at the moment

I'd certainly buy that, does anyone realize it was a 3 year gap between PS4 and PS4pro. So if anything Sony is late with the PS5pro by a year.

@@fenixfelixx The differace is the PS4 pro and the Xbox one X were needed because of the change from 1080p tv to 4k and the because both the PS4 and the Xbox One (their cpu's were ancient junk) were mid-low end PC specs when they launched were as the Ps5 and Xbox Series consoles were both state of the art when they launched a PS5 pro is not nessassary this gen. Devs were also asking for more powerful hardware last gen this time we are not getting that except for a few lazy devs with the Series S.

Exclusives aren't coming back. Games cost too much to make for them to truly have exclusives. Most will end up on PC to help recoup the cost. As sad as it makes me, consoles aren't ever going to be what they were when we were kids. Of course the upside of that is more people will play those games so there's that.

Most likely thats a clever move.
From what we seen, it's 100% not running at 60FPS on the PS5, games are already starting to rely on aggressive upscale to get games to run at 60FPS, most of the trailer seems to have been running real time, and considering that the game isn't coming to PC right away, it's likely that they are using footage similar to the PS5/XBSX settings. If it does run at 30FPS, then I'm positive it's going to be something like 720p upscaled to 1440p, and probably with additional compromises to graphical fidelity.
Dang that dose suck if true. Especially after buying my ps5 six months ago and getting to experiance gta five with a consistent 60 fps frame rate had no idea how mutch I was missing out on playing on ps4 pro. And I was looking forward to an actual next gen gtao experiance and if what you say will end up true then yea it’s kinda sad. Plus I don’t like where the gameing industry is going right now anyways so I’m probobly not buying anything next gen except for Nintendo stuff. Because iv noticed with these consoles it’s like you finally get your hands on the new shiny thing and bam they already have the next newest shiny thing that ofc you just have to have because it’s so mutch better than your own new shiny thing you just bought. It just feels like companies want you to just buy consume for a bit long enough to tie you over and then boom they shove the next new thing asking you to buy it before you get even settled into the old new thing if that makes sense. I already explained this feeling to my friends online I’m skipping the ps6 or whatever Microsoft makes next I just truly don’t feel the need to upgrade so soon. Just got my ps5 6 months ago. At least nintindo gives us time between consoles not to mention when we buy their physical games the game is actually on the cartridge.

@@pkemr4 yea suppose your right but I’m done the ps5 is good enough for what I need it for and iv been loveing my switch ever sense I first got it I feel satisfied so im still dead set on skipping next gen I mean there is only so mutch they can do to improve the console experiance at this point anyways. And most AAA games are just interactive movies at this point so im good. Plus I barely have time to play video games anymore anyways I have a backlog that would probobly last me 2y minimum lol.

PS4 games are def way better on PS5. 60fps, system runs much quieter, better resolution. Even with the lack of PS5 only games I've loved mine.
At least upgrade the hdd to ssd, should be cheap enough now days.

I kind of gave up on the under the TV console. In my opinion the Switch is the only system that actually feels like you are playing a console anymore. My Series X, just feels like a closed off PC with less options. This generation sent me to PC, handheld PC, and the Switch. This generation of consoles has been the strangest out of the 36 years I have been here.

Consoles are cheap and easier to access than PC. I have a PS5, Switch, a Gaming PC, a gaming Laptop and a Steam Deck. Even though my PC is the strongest of them all, PS5 and Steam Deck are the most time spent playing games because of their simplicity pick-up and continue playing nature.

You said it perfectly, PC is pick up and play nowadays , it can be beamed to any TV or handheld I own. We have wireless HDMI now too, tons of PC options at every price point, my PC was about in 2018 and I only upgraded the ram, plays everything, only spent $700 builder charged me $100. Played Blitz the league yesterday from PS2 then Helldivers 2 beamed right to the TV downstairs. Xbox and PlayStation are now on steam lmao

Couldn't agree more. This is the first generation I haven't bought a PlayStation console. I had a PS1-PS4 (including a Pro), PSP, and yes... even a Vita. Sony hasn't released a single exclusive I care about this generation. I game exclusively on a gaming PC at home and an ROG Ally on the go. I haven't missed consoles at all. Being able to share my Steam library across the PC and Ally with the same saves has been great as well. I don't think the console manufacturers could do anything to bring me back at this point.
In the same boat here. Bought all those Sony products as well and don't use any now. Went to PC in 2017 and haven't looked back

I still like consoles. Nothing will happen to my games because I actually own them. I only get some pc games that I already have physical. So I can mod them. That's the only reason why I still prefer consoles because it's safer. Lol

We really don't need pro versions of the consoles this gen. Last gen it at least made sense because of how underpowered the 8th gen systems were.
If you accepted the ps4 pro you should accept the ps5 pro (both don't make sense IMO).
ps4 was fine it ran all my games fine...other than load times towards the end with spiderman and even then it was fine...

Xbox is going with the long game and ignoring the current adopters, Sony is complacent, Nintendo has ancient practices, and PC routinely gets horrible ports. In the 6th generation, you couldn't go wrong because they were all good. Currently, they're all bad. I'll just be glad that we get some great games here and there, because I haven't even scratched the surface of my backlog.

What Sony needs more than an upgraded PS5 imo is greater genre diversity in their exclusive lineup. Their go-to template of 'third person linear/open world narrarive driven action adventure' has gotten very stale by now I feel, with a heavy reliance on 'safe' franchises carried over from the PS4 with sequels and remasters galore. Where's the new IP? The genre variety in first party titles? When was the last time Sony made a major FPS or RPG title of their own that wasn't third-party or based on bought exclusivity?

@@BrokenOpus Dreams is a program not a game. Like adobe photoshop of yesteryear. It's fun to mess around with but its not a game. The mainstream appeal was just not there with Dreams. I appreciated what I saw of Dreams but I was never compelled to pick it up...even during their $7.99 sales. I just don't have the time to learn and build worlds. I just want to play in them. And from what I saw 99% of Dreams User created content was at best C-tier gameplay.

The Pro versions made sense last gen, large upgrades that went along with the shift the in TV resolution.
Outside of the people that are going to upgrade just because, I don't get why they're doing this now.

Exactly. The primary reason the PS4 Pro was even made is 4K TVs. Sure you got some better framerates here and there, but that wasn't their main focus with the pro. It was all about filling that 4K resolution.
The choice to pay a bit more for more power is never bad. You could get path tracing for example, which is amazing. Or run all games natively in 4K, or run all games at 120fps. Why would you be against that? The lesser experience would still be there for people who don't care.
There's no justification to get a PS5 pro because the library isn't there. This is why they are edging off their policies attempting to go back to 2010. Still makes me bonk my head. Did they really think that people buying Sony consoles based on what they could theoretically do and not what they actually do last forever? Played one Sony 1st party title, you've played them all, played one RE remake game, you've played them all, played one sports game, you've played them all. Lol, people have been complaining about this since the PS4 days.
The only reason why the PS4 Pro happened was because the upgrade from the PS3 to PS4 was so lackluster.
So no, the PS4 Pro only made sense within the context of Sony's failure and yes, the same is true of Microsoft and the Xbox One.
Mid gen console hardware upgrades represent a failure of the Games Industry and the Community.

Exactly. Moreover, they are CONSOLES and, therefore, supposedly to be affordable. Some people don't get that if they want high settings they have to pay the premium price and buy a high-end PC. I was content with my $190 Xbox One S (Black Friday deal) and now with my Xbox SX (not the SS because of the lack of an optical drive). The problem is that customers feel entitled because console makers falsely market their devices as powerhouses. People should buy consoles for what they are, not as an equivalent of a gaming PC.
I feel like im playing older games nowadays. Currently emulating my psp games on pc and upscaling them in 4k 60fps.
Switch 2 is the only dog in town with Nintendo exclusives. And that's kind of what's kept Nintendo afloat for almost 25 years.

When the ps5 was announced, I said then, I’m not even gonna think about buying one until they have a pro model. Especially with less than 1TB of storage. Hopefully this is a noticeable upgrade for the pro to make it worthwhile.

I’ve actually been waiting for a Pro since 2020 so I’m hoping this comes out.
This is literally the only time since the PS2 era that 90% of the 9th Gen consoles were released for 8th Gen consoles. It's not even a joke. It has been 4 years and we still have AAA games on Xbox ONE and PS4 like Tomb Raider I - III Remastered Featuring Lara Croft and Sonic Frontiers. Even WWE 2K24 is on it as well as AEW Fight Forever.

I kind of disagree, I think Nintendo is the only one that has a bit of an idea of what they are doing. Imo, the huge success of the switch makes it clear that they should milk that as much as possible and the switch's successor is not urgent. It would be nice, sure but it's not needed.
That due to Nintendo staying in the line. And making games. They don't care about how big there ecosystem is. They know it will change over time. As long as you add good games it will grow on it own
Sony put there eggs into growing there ecosystem as fast as possible. Now it huge. But it's too big. As there nothing growing by itself. And it can't keep up with ever part. So it's dieing off.
I only took the plunge this gen at Christmas. Bought a Series S (only for DS remake really). Still have my PS4 hooked up to the TV next to the SNES classic.

Idk why everyone cares so much about framerate this gen. Games were 30fps since the PS1 and nobody was ever bitching that the PS3, or PS4 didnt push 60fps in all their AAA games, they were all 30fps, just like the gen before it, and nobody complained.
Suddenly a 30fps PS5 game is a tragedy, like seriously? still doing 4x the resolution of the PS4 with far better graphics, plus all the other PS5 benefits like SSD, more real-time rendering, etc. Come on.
3:07 I mean to be fair, since both XBox and Playstation are x86 systems with AMD GPUs, if a game can run on a last gen console and Sony/Microsoft are still issuing security updates to the operating systems for those consoles, then there's no real reason to put in an arbitrary limitation to stop it from running on those systems; releasing it on older hardware could net you more sales. It's no different than a PC game being able to run at 1080p on hardware from the late 20teens, or using an RTX 4090 to run the same game at 4k120.
Sony is still putting games on ps4 we will never know the true potential of the ps5 till they stop making games on ps4 this ps5 pro is not needed. If sony going to keep making games that go on both ps4 and ps5 the ps5 pro won’t even be able to show its potential ffs

You are absolutely right. My steam deck changed the way I want to play games and since games on steam are cheaper than an console I have way more games for it than for any console.

I'm looking forward to a ps5 pro and will get it day 1. I got my ps5 on launch day so it has already been over 3 years for me. I always welcome more powerful hardware. I also think there's been a ton of great games this Gen, especially for someone who doesn't like PC gaming.
getting the ps4 pro shortly before the ps5 came out, I still really enjoy my ps4 pro, I did not get the 5 but when I do get my upgrade it will be from ps4 pro to 5 pro? For people that already have the 5 this has got to feel like a burn.

@@ashwilkessy4766 Because the other part of the equation is the PS5 and PSVR2. I've got an i7 11700k, 3080 12GB, and a gen4 SSD, but it doesn't play the games I already owned on PS5 and don't want to buy again, it doesn't run GT7, RE8 + 4 Remake in VR and future exclusive AAA VR experiences, and there always seems to be something wrong with PC versions of multiplatform games nowadays. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy PC gaming (though VR on PC is like 75% getting every setting correct just to have a decent experience and 25% playing the game just to realize that yet another VR game that UA-camrs have hyped up just isn't that good). Weirdly, I find myself using my PC for indies 99% of the time vs. bigger titles, and using my PS5 for everything else because it's much simpler than running high graphics stuff on PC.

I don't think portable PC tech is what's eating into console sales. The biggest killer of gaming today is greed. Games are treated like a service and not a product.
It's the main reason i haven't bought a PS5 and it's the reason my PS4 sits there collecting dust.
I can't stand battlepasses and seasons and games that seem to go on forever and ever. It's boring. It's also a waste of money.
I barely game at all anymore, and if i do it's usually some indie game on Switch. I feel better now that I'm not constantly chasing a carrot on a stick. No more season passes. No more battlepasses. No more buying emotes and character/weapon skins. No more FOMO. Life is good.
I just want more games specifically made for this generation. I could care less about a pro version

I think by “latter half” they mean the 2nd half of the consoles lifespan (ie the next 3 or so years). Now, given that like during the first two years of the systems release it was near impossible to get in stores, I can see why folks are freaking out. What makes this generation so bizarre is the live service games. Fortnite is literally the biggest game on the market and the fact is that it’s still perfectly playable on the PS4 especially compared to the Switch which is in desperate need of an upgrade.
I don't think that a Pro is really needed. Maybe to get a higher framerate? 4K is like the maximum you need in resolution for a TV. If you take a TV (80 inch 4K) and sit like 5 feet away, you get a ppd of 63. At a ppd of 60 (pixel per degree), you can't see the pixels anymore.
Pro version of PS5 would be cool but since I already have the OG first model I probably won't bother with it
