15 hour layover in Addis Ababa

- On a recent trip from Singapore to Lebanon with Ethiopian Airlines, I had a 15 hour layover in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. I got a hotel (Beer Garden Inn) compliments of Ethiopian Air.
I wanted to use my time to see as much of the city as I could, so I went on a 24 km hike through the city and into the mountains. On the way, I saw:
-Meskel Square
-Africa Hall, part of the UN
-Sheraton Addis
-Arat Kilo Roundabout
-Ministry of Education
-Miskaye Hizunan Medhanealem Monastery
-Addis Ababa University
-Market
-Entoto Maryam Church
-Entoto Mountain

I am Ethiopian living in Canada. And, I would say Canadians are very civilized, humble, polite, professional and respectful to others but generally not that friendly.
Ethiopians on the other hand are NOT professional, civilized or polite what so ever but they are very very friendly and welcoming especially to foreigners.

I'm from the very tiny Kingdom of eSwatini (formerly Swaziland). I visited Ethiopia last year September for the New Years Celebrations. What an amazing experience! I fell totally in love with this beautiful country full of warm, kind, lovely, and good hearted people. I love Ethiopia so much! I hope to be back soon to see more of this great country. After a night flight, most people would just take it easy for the day but, no, you go and walk 15 miles. I love the fact you just walked from your hotel and didn't take a taxi or anything. What an absolutely fantastic way to spend your day and see something of not just the city but the countryside as well. Congratulations on producing such an inspiring video. Thank you.

Travelled through Bole airport twice, the first time back in 2004 when Ethiopian was still a small airline and the second time in 2016. Back in 2004 Bole was not that busy and most of the international flights would arrive and depart at night. I could say it was rather a sleepy airport. Addis Ababa was very interesting as was other places I visited in Ethiopia. The most recent trip via Bole airport was different, crazy busy, packed and chaotic. In both instances security was very tight and the Ethiopian people were very nice. The last time I was at Bole airport, despite the restaurant being packed to capacity I managed to find a seat and have a wonderful Ethiopian meal.

I had my layover in Addis for 8 hours and stayed in transient hotel. The food was really great and the Ethiopians were really nice,fun and warm. I wish to go back to Ethiopia and tour as well. ❤

Nice video. I'm an American from Oxnard, a California. A city located near Los Angeles. And its amazing, how the airport in Addis Ababa is so much nicer than the one in Los Angeles and many other American cities. Even parts of central Addis Ababa look better, cleaner and wealthier, than areas of downtown Los Angeles and some other American cities. Although America is by far the richest country in the world. Many people and places are largely deprived of that wealth. I've been to areas of Mexico and Africa, that look better than parts of Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Chicago or Philadelphia.

I have been to Ethiopia 3 times. I love it. I stay close to Bole by Gerji area. Especially close to gerji condominiums. I always get the Ethiopian evisa before I land in Ethiopia. You can get on arrival but there is a long line sometimes. The mountains that he went to,the ones north of Addis are Yeka mountains. There is a Yeka neighborhood too. Addis Ababa is surrounded by Oromia regional stare on all side. Even south,goring toward Bishoftu and Adama.

Ethiopia is my motherland and I’m happy and proud to call home, although now I’m in USA... I’ve visited from 2010-16 it was great to see how thing changed and developed in such awesome extent.
