@@KristensEpicAdventures I got it for Xmas in 2019 but still using int 3 years later. It's a great box set, seems better than the box set they are going to put out on Aug. 1st of this year which has fewer components. Plus the adventure is a good "sandbox" type game
@@thebellbrothers3279 You can! There's 3 main ways u can choose ur stats, Point Buy (morre customizable), the "roll the dice" and the "default array", wich is 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8, and you can choose where to put wich one of it.

My wife and I live in a very isolated town in northern Canada, so there isn't much to do. We bought this kit because we're both interested in playing but have never actually played. I'm planning on being the DM. We'll see how it goes!

Thank you so much, I’ve been looking for you for years. My youngest has wanted to play D&D with us for so many years and we even bought the essential kit years ago. But I raked through dozens of videos and could never understand how to play D&D even though I really wanted to. I’m very introverted so I never had the opportunity to play with a group and was relying on reading and watching these videos. After probably over 6 years, we are playing our first game of D&D and my heart feels super happy. Thank you so much ❤

A good guide for a person who is just getting started and I think that sometimes it's better to meet with everyone give them a character sheet and a photo copy of the "How to make a character" part so that when everybody is ready they give it to the dungeon master and start playing.
Excellent review for new players, and enjoyable as well for vets! Over the years I’ve played D&D from AD&D through 3.5e, with a bit of experience in 5e. I’m currently trying to find a good group to play with, and I actually picked up both the Starter and Essentials sets for if and when I can actually find someone to play with (the sets are very well priced). Thanks again for the great content, and I hope I can find a group soon to enjoy a game that I deeply enjoy so much!💯 P.S. Epic Answer to Epic Question: Player is my preference but I’m ready to guide as DM as needed.

Thanks for the insight on this game. I’m 46 and a little late to the table so to speak. I picked this set up sometime in the fall of 2020 and I literally just opened it today. I was pretty overwhelming when looking at everything so I decided to come over to UA-cam and try to learn something. I watched a few videos and then I came across yours. You honestly calmed my nerves a little bit about this game. I’m still a little confused but optimistic about this. So thanks you for the video. Now I know what not to look at and I know I need to find another person to play this game with me. I’m going to see what other videos you have and try to learn a little more.

Great video. I have been playing for a couple yrs now still fairly new to the game. I keep saying id like to try to be a DM my DM says i can do it lol. Today I got the essentials so i can hopefully teach my granddaughter how to play as she is showing interest along with a friend of hers. Exactly what I needed! I played back in the '70s and '80s (OG!), but haven't played since. My kids and I saw this kit at Barnes and Noble and decided it would be fun to try out. I needed the refresher, definitely!

I'm a 35 yr old adult male and have 4 kids. 1 boy 3 girls ranging from 17 down to 8. I am the DM for the 4 of them. Literally have sunk 100s of hours into baldurs gate 3 on ps5. My kids enjoyed watching me play so much they wanted to do there own. So we got the essentials kit. It took them 5 hours to make characters. Great video by the way
Creating a character in 1 session? lol it took me over a week to try and figure out just what spells to pick for my Sorcerer :p This was a fantastic guide btw!

The Essentials kit is the best way to start. However, I think Paizo did a better job with their own "Essentials kit" box than D&D. The price/ content is hudge comparing to D&D´s box. Also the rules themselves are better explained. I apologize for my english. I´m spanish :)

Great work breaking down the Essentials Kit. I believe WoTC is going to put out a new or updated box in the near future, so I'd love to hear your take on that as well. One of things I really found useful in this kit is the introduction of Sidekicks. They really did a good job expanding the rules in Tasha's, and I've found that Sidekicks are really useful in a bunch of circumstances. They are even great for new players to use as their primary character since they have a slimmed down set of rules and abilities. Thanks for the video!

Epic question answer it is! DM here! I picked up the EK, and I'm planning on running a shorter campaign for a group that's mainly newbies. So far, I've used one of the quests as a base for a one-shot, reskinned to work in that group's larger campaign's universe when I took over the dm chair so our forever dm could have a go. For the new campaign, I'll probably use some of EK quests and throw in some homebrew so the adventures are tailored to my group.

This is really helpful. I've thought about playing with some friends (I would be the DM) and thought about getting this kit over the starter set as I think my friends would have more fun with the open nature of it. I've watched a few videos now on both sets, but this was the most helpful one to push my decision.
I understand that for sure, we had to play online over discord instead of in person. Then I moved far away from my group, but we still play on discord anyway...
@@KristensEpicAdventures 10 months later and I finally got to play 😂 While I don't regret buying the set since I'll use a lot of the items for future campaigns (the DM screen, the dice, some of the magic item cards etc.) I don't think we'll ever return to the campaign from the set. It was fun, everyone wants to keep playing again, but I noticed that the parts that were the most fun for both me and my players were the things I added on the fly or invented for it, so in the future I'll focus more on that homebrew angle.

13:15 The kit comes with four six-sided dice (4d6) so that players can roll their stats (Str, Dex, etc). Roll 4 and drop the lowest for a 3d6 stat.

Great work breaking down the Essentials Kit. I believe WoTC is going to put out a new or updated box in the near future, so I'd love to hear your take on that as well.
One of things I really found useful in this kit is the introduction of Sidekicks. They really did a good job expanding the rules in Tasha's, and I've found that Sidekicks are really useful in a bunch of circumstances. They are even great for new players to use as their primary character since they have a slimmed down set of rules and abilities.

DM here! I picked up the EK, and I'm planning on running a shorter campaign for a group that's mainly newbies. So far, I've used one of the quests as a base for a one-shot, reskinned to work in that group's larger campaign's universe when I took over the dm chair so our forever dm could have a go. For the new campaign, I'll probably use some of EK quests and throw in some homebrew so the adventures are tailored to my group.

This is really helpful. I've thought about playing with some friends (I would be the DM) and thought about getting this kit over the starter set as I think my friends would have more fun with the open nature of it.
I've watched a few videos now on both sets, but this was the most helpful one to push my decision.

@@KristensEpicAdventures 10 months later and I finally got to play 😂 While I don't regret buying the set since I'll use a lot of the items for future campaigns (the DM screen, the dice, some of the magic item cards etc.) I don't think we'll ever return to the campaign from the set. It was fun, everyone wants to keep playing again, but I noticed that the parts that were the most fun for both me and my players were the things I added on the fly or invented for it, so in the future I'll focus more on that homebrew angle.
