Thanks to you, I am the proud owner of the makings of a lace knit scarf. This is the perfect difficulty setting for a new knitter who has already gotten bored of straight knits and purls, but doesn't yet have the attention span for any stitch more complex than a line or two. That is to say, it's perfect for me. I DID have to unfurl everything and restart once when I realized I was adding stitches like crazy and making chaos of the whole thing. Trying again, I applied the basic maths and tried only yarning over once to make up for the one dropped stitch created by purling the two together. The result is exactly as seen in the video. Nobody ELSE seemed to have this problem, but it seemed so obvious even in theory that I figure I must be missing something, somewhere.
This is a beautiful scarf ! I made couple of these 2yrs ago thanks to the easy to follow tutorial by The Casting On Couch ... many viewers have asked in comments "how do you cast off ?" ... she has commented that you can cast off "knit-wise" also this project must be cast on in multiples of 4 - hope this helps viewers ... thanks a million to the instructor of Casting On Couch
You make the most beautiful lace scarf ever seen on your video....all of this being done with the work of your beautiful hands! Thank you for your lovely video, and I want to make this beautiful lace scarf! You have class! You go girl!
I've made this pattern several times, only I start with the base width and keep knitting till I've reached my desired length. I'm a moderate knitter, but dropped stitches terrify me! I have mastered your trinity stitch pattern and enjoy coming here to learn something new and strengthen my technique. Thank you for these clear tutorials and your beautiful talent!
I love love love this stitch that’s quite a wide scarf but I made one that is much less wide and it’s perfect the stitch is so easy and moves right along thank you so much you are a great teacher to keep going!
thank you so much for your videos, i don't understand why people are having a hard time with this pattern it's so easy, i follow you exactly as you do on your videos, i may have to play it back a few times but I never deviate from what you do. So everyone that is finding it difficult do exactly what she's doing an you shouldn't go wrong.
Laura BeresFord since I knit continental, I had a little trouble getting started becausen of the YOs, but now it's smooth sailing. I'm using Elle Rae Lace Merino. Loving how it's turning out.
Thank you Thank you Thank you! The lace patterns have all been intimidating and some tutorials have made something so easy that much more complicated. I watched this and within a few minutes, I picked it up easy peasy! I am so excited to check out your other videos - thank you so much for sharing and being a wonderful help!
I am so glad that I found your channel again! I found your channel year's ago when I was first learning how to knit. And I loved that beautiful red lace scarf that you featured, and made in beautiful mustard-colored yarn. However I couldn't find your channel again because I couldn't remember the name! But, tonight I was helping a dear friend of mine who wanted to knit a nice lace scarf I just happened to key in about lace scarves and here's your channel Yaaaayy!
enna mwangi - Brilliant use of this stitch. If you are able, please send me a photo via facebook or instagram. It would be great for me (and other knitters) to see your handy work!
I just want to thank you so much! I am trying to make this scarf and so far I am doing it...slowly but doing it thanks to you! I have never been able to do more than the knit stitch back and forth and even then not too well but I am doing this because of your great video! I can't wait for more! It might take me a year to finish this but I am determined!!!!
This is such a beautiful stitch. I am French but it is so easy to follow. I will knit à white cotton pull-over with this stitch. Thank you very much. Many kind greetings from Brittany - France🇫🇷 Marie.
I watched a couple of your videos and I must say that I love your tutorials - the way you explain the steps is just so easy to follow. Even pieces with more complicated patterns can easily be done by beginners (although if it might take a little longer). Anyway, thank you! Keep up the great work. :-) Oh, and by the way: I love your accent! :-)
Just wanted to say I love all of your videos and the stitches you do. I mostly crochet but from time to time I pull out my needles and knit a little something.
I've started to knit this scarf today, with a red lace yarn and circular bamboo needles 3,5mm. Will post project images on my ravelrypage...thank you for this nice video!
I so hope you do more beginner videos! I am not good at knitting and I am a visual learner and you explain things wonderfully! Plus I must tell you that your voice is so calming which I really enjoy since knitting makes me so tense! Thank you! I am trying this asap!
i have just come across your videos and I loved them. I love your vintage look as well. I am writing all the way from Malta. Thank you for the tutorials
Looks beautiful, and simply, thank you for going through the whole row for us, although I started to fall asleep, tranquil voice or something, but seriously can't wait to try it.
It would depend on your yarn choice. I would work out a small tension square first. Make a note of the number of stitches and measure the width that this sample piece achieves. Then work out how many tension square widths would create the right sized baby blanket for you.
My doctor recommended I start knitting because of hypertension. BP meds weren't working alone. He had read in a bio feedback article that knitting can help lower BP. After learning my BP came down to completely normal levels. Way lower than they had been in years! Patterns like this are great stress relievers. Great tutorial.
I love this channel and watch it as much as I can! Will you ever be showing how to knit a tea cozy? Those would make some great holiday gifts and I would love to have one myself. Thank you for sharing all the knowledge and all the wonderful creations you put together. Loving you're style!
Thank you so much for this tutorial - what a versatile stitch! I've used it to make a shawl using 2ply mohair and 15mm needles and a scarf using 1ply true lace-weight mohair and 4mm needles - both look amazing. The delicacy of the scarf blows my mind - it's almost the sort of rib you might find on a lace glove or stocking - just beautiful! The shawl is obviously less fine but still light and airy enough to do justice to a fine mohair but structured enough to give it nice enough shape to sit well. Ive also used the pattern as an edging for a plain knit scarf for some fancy Fleece Artist yarn I wanted to show off as the "centrepiece". I just used one set of 4 stitches on either side and 2 rows of the full 52 along the top and bottom - the result is really stunning! Question: im wondering if the pattern can be tweaked to halve the number of "ribs" and double the width of the lacy bits between the ribs? Would it be difficult to do - can you help? Many thanks! 😊
Hi...i loved yr video...i have finished around 1.5m but am stuck with casting off for this scarf pattern. May i know how to cast off for this pattern? Many thanks
Thank you for simplifying it. What width does this make the scarf? I had bought some 5 ply bamboo/cotton blend yarn but found the lace pattern was just too difficult, so I would like to use it with this one. What size needles would I need?
This is so lovely, I have been liking so hard for an easy lace look sock pattern. They all are just too hard for me. Is there any reason I can't do this or any reason this world not work in scoks? Thank you so much
I've started this project while watching you're video. Thank you for making this so simple! I never thought I could manage a beautiful pattern like this. Is there a particular way to cast off?
hey love your videos. could you advise what to do if you accidently drop a stitch and can't find it, as in if you end up with 1 less stitch than you're sussed to. thanks!
shonyshoshony - I would aim to pick up a loop from the (completed) knitting to create an eyelet. Do this where you suspect you may have a lace eyelet hole missing from the work. The more you practice lace the more adept you become at fixing mistakes.
Does this pattern work up the same if knitted continental style? I have tried it a couple of times continental, but I always seem to end up with 1 extra stitch in each repeat from the 2 YOs (since only 1 stitch is subtracted from the P2tog). Can someone suggest what I might be doing wrong, please?
zippitydodah Yes this will work in continental style as long as you work a multiple of 4sts and you treat each yo twice as one stitch when you come to work it on the the next row.
If I wanted to do this in the round, would I simply continue the pattern, or would I reverse the stitches (i.e., p2, yo twice, k2tog) on the even rows? I think this would make lovely lace socks.
Look at the ball band tension of your yarn. There is usually a gauge saying how many stitches to 4 inches or 10 cm. Multiply that figure (stitches per 4in or 10cm) by 3 to get the total amount of stitches for your scarf. Next, check this figure fits in with the main repeat of this lace stitch. This should give you a good start in terms of scarf width. Adjust to suit your taste once you have experimented. Hope this helps!
For this scarf, either straight or circular needles would be fine. I would recommend circular needles though, as they are more versatile. You can then go on to experiment with other knitting techniques such as the magic loop method (when working in the round). Circular needles are also brilliant for wide projects involving lots of stitches as you can manipulate the work with ease. I find that the weight of the work as it builds is easier to handle too.
I would like to make this as a blanket. What would I do as I would need a border each side ,so would the pattern still work ok if I add garter stitch please as the ending 4 stitches in your scarf would I just do them then my border ?
huntlymyhuntly This would work well with 4sts of garter stitch to each side as a little border. Knitters have also kindly posted their pictures on my Facebook page of throws worked in this stitch without borders. Both options will work well. Good luck with whatever you decide!
Loved the scarf but when it came to binding off I didnt know what to do. I did a regular bind off but then the edges are not symmetrical. Any suggestions Thank you
od bless you /thank you for sharing - i need to make this for my young friend for giving me rides to my dr. a few times! but cowls are really in fashion here in Canada . any suggestions out there for that using this stitch ? thx in advance !!
Do you find the connected needles are easier to use then the straight needles for this project? I am a beginner knitter and the connected needles you are using look easier to use and control. Thank you for your videos they help a lot :)
After four tries I did it! T Lots of compliments and I love it too. The trick for my success was using markers. When I had it the length I wanted I knitted the raw edge to the cast on edge (goofed how)and made it into an infinity scarf. My question is any advise on how to make a hat in the round to match? I cast on 96 stitches.
Hello! I would like to start this scarf and wondering if 1 ball of yarn is enough? Also, is it possible to see a picture of the scarf finished? Thank you.
I love this, it is beautiful! what is the width of the scarf using 52 stitches on 6mm needles as you suggest? want to make one for my mum for Christmas but I think she would prefer a wider scarf.
mandy panesar I do remember this coming up nice and wide, between 35 to 40cm. So its more like a wrap. The ball band suggests there are 4 sts to one inch. I would do a small test piece so that you get the size you want. Good luck!
Oh, I love all these wonderfull things you are doing , ! ! ! ! , I have tried to do somethig with pinneaple stich ! it is amazing , ! , but ...also when I saw that picture , on magazine , of the old red retro coat , on this video , the only question is ...if you can show us please the way to do this really-really fantastic thing ! .
Thank you for sharing such a lovely pattern for those of us who are easily overwhelmed by the complicated! As several have requested, could you please provide your recommended cast on and off method for this project and if you would let us know the dimensions of the scarf when completed using the needle size/stitch count/yarn weight shown? Can't wait to give it a go!
Thank you for your beginner tutorial. It’s just what I need at my old age. Never too late.
Very clear, slow pace.
Gratefully,
Mart
Thanks to you, I am the proud owner of the makings of a lace knit scarf. I am so pleased you managed to achieve your first lace scarf. Do share a picture via my facebook page of your handy work if you get time!
I like the way you teach. You continue which makes it easier to memorize. And nice to see your face.

So pretty I was wondering how many stitches would you recommend for a baby blanket thank you

EV D Many thanks. I will look forward to that!
Glad you are finding it easy. Thanks for your feed back.
Super easy, thanks! If I'm using a fingering yarn, should I double the stitches?
I love this scarf! It looks really beautiful when it's done, and it goes fast because of the gaps created from the yarn overs!
So pleased to hear it's looking so good. Send me a photo if you can! Would love to see it.
love your clips ,would love to make a wrap shawl,in 4ply ,how many stiches to start with and the wool.please .i want it to be fine .
Thank you so very much! This is lovely. I appreciate the clear instructions. :) I'm going to try this with my next project.
Hope all is well with you and your family. I love your channel. You are an excellent instructor. Thank you so much.🙂

I will definitely do some more beginner videos. I have lots more lace stitches that I want to share!
Thank you so much! Have a wonderful weekend! :)
WOW!!! That simple! I'm SO going to try this out!
It is unbelievably simple isn't it? If you make something from this stitch will you let me know how you get on?
The Casting On Couch Do you think it would work with a bookmark? I'm making one and can't find a nice pattern.
A book mark is only small so it might be worth a try?
Great video! Does this pattern work in the round?
If I wanted to make it less wide, how many would I cast on? It is a beautiful scarf. Thanks for sharing the pattern and making the tutorial.
Belle Schultz - to adjust the width of this scarf, add or subtract in multiples of 4 sts.
This was so easy. Thank you. It was my first introduction to yarn overs, on purpose.
Excellent. So glad you found it easy to follow.
Thanks for the helpful tutorial
Thank you for sharing your Awesome Tutorials! This is a Beautiful Stitch pattern and simple enough for me to follow.
i have just come across your videos and I loved them. I love your vintage look as well. I am writing all the way from Malta. Thank you for the tutorials
So glad you found my tutorials. Happy knitting and Greetings to you in Malta!
Very pretty stitch and colour.
Great video and inspiration for some super chunky I've been hoarding! So happy I've found this channel 🐝
I think I just learned how to knit lace! I am so excited I am going to make myself a pink lace knit scarf.
Good luck! Send me a picture via facebook if you get time. It'll look fab in pink.
I will. But I'm making two different winter cardigans. I need a pattern for sleeves. I have the back pieces made and am working on the sides.
I got some lovely mohair silk in a lucky dip, and now I know what I am doing with it!
GREAT tutorial, so easy to follow...THANK YOU!
Looks beautiful, and simply, thank you for going through the whole row for us, although I started to fall asleep, tranquil voice or something, but seriously can't wait to try it.
Have you any pattern for a knotted beret style hat? Love your videos and have done several of the trinity scarves for friends
Love this stitch. As a newbie knitter this is right up my alley! Thanks for the great videos!
Did you make the scarf in your thumbnail? It's fab.
Yes I did! thanks for noticing!
Amy Pinkelman What stitch did you use? I really like the colour combination.
Lovely video. I'm looking forward to knitting this scarf.
I love this stitch, am thinking maybe a baby blanket. How many stitches would you suggest?
It would depend on your yarn choice. I would work out a small tension square first. Make a note of the number of stitches and measure the width that this sample piece achieves. Then work out how many tension square widths would create the right sized baby blanket for you.

Good to hear it's working for your BP.I hear the repetitive nature is good for the old grey cells too!
So so happy for giving the first comment. I just simply love love love this. Wonderful projects as always. The warmest regards from Cyprus
Always nice to hear your positive comments. Many thanks!
I love this channel and watch it as much as I can! Will you ever be showing how to knit a tea cozy? Those would make some great holiday gifts and I would love to have one myself. Thank you for sharing all the knowledge and all the wonderful creations you put together. Loving you're style!
GingerRootableI will be uploading some of my tea cozy's in the future. Thanks so much for supporting my channel.
Very nice! A handy stitch to know, thank you. Love the parrot on sweater arm on magazine cover!
Many thanks
Hi I love this pattern, if I wanted to make it for a baby blanket if I make multiples of 4 would that work?
I'm going to try this, such an easy pattern for a beginner
If I wanted to do this in the round, would I simply continue the pattern, or would I reverse the stitches (i.e., p2, yo twice, k2tog) on the even rows? I think this would make lovely lace socks.
simple AND reversible gets my vote!
Hello do you think this stitch would look good in a chunky wool and any idea how many stitches l would need to make a long scarf many thanks x
I like the vintage feel of your channel do you find old vintage patterns alsodo you have a really cool slouchy sweater pattern you can share withus
I tried this stitch and love the results...everyone else does, too. Does it matter how many stitches I cast on as long as it's an even number?
Andrew Stiller Adjust in multiples of 4 stitches.
Excellent project. Would you please show me the final project. Thank you!
I will definitely try this. Thanks for this beginner pattern.
Just finished the scarf and made a cable knit hat to match....xmas gift for my college grandson
carol causland - hope he appreciates all your hard work!
Lovely pattern, thanks for making the time to do this tutorial. Would this work in the round???
Haces que parezca simple, muchas gracias por compartir. Me encantan tus tutoriales
Easy peasy!! Thanks for this fun stitch :D
If you wanted to make a blanket with this stitch what would be the multiples to cast on ?
Fabulous tutorial. Thank you for sharing.
I know this video is older, I hope you see this. How many stitches would you suggest (Cast on) for a wide shawl? Thank you.
Love see the finished scarf
Easy & nice pattern. Thanks for sharing
I am very new to knitting. This looks just my level. Thank you! Can this beginner's lace pattern be knit "in the round"?
Hi I'm new to knitting and am going to attempt the beginner's lace scarf. How many balls of wool would I need please. Thank you :-):-)
Hello
Lovely scarf. What is the length of your scarf ? How to you cast off please? Thank you.
I would like to make a scarf but not nearly as wide, what are the multiples?
Loved the scarf but when it came to binding off I didnt know what to do. I did a regular bind off but then the edges are not symmetrical. Any suggestions Thank you
Hi, did you find out how to bind off? I want to use this pattern and was wondering myself how to finish it. Thanks
Thank you i love the way you explain the whole procedure
Zora i Many thanks Zora
You have such nice and comforting voice.
Very easy and very nice design
To get different widths, add or subtract in multiples of 4.
Thank you so for this great video and lovely stitch.
Pam Lee Many thanks!
Thank you for sharing and explaining another beautiful pattern
od bless you /thank you for sharing - i need to make this for my young friend for giving me rides to my dr. a few times! but cowls are really in fashion here in Canada . any suggestions out there for that using this stitch ? thx in advance !!
Could this stitch be used in a triangle shawl ? How would an increase work?
Do you find the connected needles are easier to use then the straight needles for this project? I am a beginner knitter and the connected needles you are using look easier to use and control. Thank you for your videos they help a lot :)
To make the scarf longer not wider, how many stitches do you suggest? Is there a formula? Thank you.
This is lovely & so is your hair!
Love your videos ❤️👍
Good luck!
Thank you for the video...any way to post a photo of the finished project?😊
Oh, I love all these wonderfull things you are doing , ! ! ! ! , I have tried to do somethig with pinneaple stich ! it is amazing , ! , but ...also when I saw that picture , on magazine , of the old red retro coat , on this video , the only question is ...if you can show us please the way to do this really-really fantastic thing ! .
Can I use this stitch in the round?
Does this scarf curl when knitted?
Thank you for sharing such a lovely pattern for those of us who are easily overwhelmed by the complicated! As several have requested, could you please provide your recommended cast on and off method for this project and if you would let us know the dimensions of the scarf when completed using the needle size/stitch count/yarn weight shown? Can't wait to give it a go!
This scarf design is quite wide. It came up about 30cm or 12in. I used a regular knit wise cast off, and thought this looked fine.
