What a treat. I purchased the Angel Delight album when it first came out, already a die-hard Fairport fan. My college pals thought we had discovered treasure out here in west USA. Great to hear Journeyman's Grace with Richard Thompson & Swarbrick especially. Always missed Sandy Denny's siren vocals though after their masterpiece album Liege & Lief.
What a band - the interplay of the instruments is fantastic. This version of Sloth is awesome. And RT playing on Journeyman's Grace! Thanks again to French TV.
Amazing depth of insight into British Rock music on French TV! For years there was a show called Rapido hosted by Antoine de Caunes, which was also excellent.
Only wish this line up of FC had kept on. I love the songs that Thompson was writing at that point. Such rapport between them, Richard, Swarb, all of them. Powerhouse band.
I saw Fairport last night for the first time in 44 years - in Bridgnorth. Began with Walk Awhile again! A great band half a century ago and a great band now, and all willing to have a friendly chat in the interval and afterwards.
@@michaeligoe3935 Beatles not quick witted? Might I suggest you take a look at one or two of the many press interviews they gave. Their wit was part of the magic. And that includes Ringo.
What a teaser for MSC fans, just under one minute starting at 12.04 of the three main singers, Matthews, Barnwell and Griffiths, singing And When She Smiles. More!!!!
Blodwyn Pig - great! Thank you. Am sure the first song was part of Seasons, which was a Mick Abrahams Band song eventually. If I'm not wrong, all those bands have some connection with Jethro Tull.
This is the lineup I saw in 1970, the first time I ever saw Fairport Convention. Aside from Dave Swarbrick, the vocals were its weak link. If Richard Thompson or Simon Nichol were then the fine vocalists they are today... Anyway, great to see some quality video of this particular lineup. Richard would soon be leaving the band.
I met dave very lovely guy in fact there all lovely guys because halfway through a song I had a nose bleeding we came back in They all asked if I was okay I got a hug from ric sanders
I'm an American, and for years people have poked fun at me for pronouncing the word "Sloth" as "Slow-th" when they think it should rhyme with "cloth" (claw-th). After watching this, I have been vindicated! 🙂
@@davidstevenson18 funny that your comment just popped up because I picked some non-staining bolete mushrooms earlier this afternoon and am trying to identify them!

It seems odd to me that Abrahams left Tull because the music was veering from what he was interested in only to form Blodwyn Pig which sounds a lot like Tull music to me, only with violin instead of flute. I suspect there were ego issues as much as musical taste involved.
Fantastic to see Fairport in action at this time in their lives. However just dreadful videography - always a hand or an elbow or the end of a guitar in the way of seeing somebody, too much time spent showing us their backs, and absolutely no camera on their instruments as they are playing the incredible music. Would have loved close-ups of Richard as he was playing Sloth. The cameramen were evidently not musicians.
Fairport Convention were in a class of their of their own. Superb.
That Blodwyn Pig footage is so crazy. Mick Abrahams is one hell of a guitar player for sure.
Dave Pegg's bass playing on Dirty Linen is possibly the most awesome and underrated bassline of ALL-TIME!!!!!!!

Lovely clip of Soft Machine in the studio.
Swarbrick just Amazing

Blodwyn my 15th birthday! I was still 2 years away from Getting to THIS!
the absolute master , so relaxed that " at work" wldn't go well for the drumming genius Dave Mattack .. easily the greatest of the rock history

Vocals were weak - especially compared to Sandy Denny.

Fairport Convention - the happiest and best band ever.
They look like they had fun onstage. Definitely a 'gang', but without needing that fast-witted Beatles thing.
Never associated Beatles with quick wit. Not Ringo anyway :)

Swarb brilliant as ever on fiddle!

The Full House band. Only Sandy is sorely missing. What a shame.

Sandy Denny - Now there's a vocalist.
I've heard the original version of Poor Will and the vocals are really weak. No wonder they left it off the album.
Swarb!
woody and cisco,first song
C'est Patrice Blanc-Francard qui présente... on dirait

Sloth the animal rhymes with cloth, sloth the condition rhymes with oath, n'est-ce pas?
Optional for either according to Chambers

ZOO a peine 2 minutes ???
Great Mick Abrahams with Richie Dharma rare footage, anyone know who the violinist is?
Eddie Jobson?
Jack Lancaster@@anthonyshaw3043
It must be Jack Lancaster the sax player of Blodwyn Pig, sometimes played also the Violin.
Bring back Jack Lancaster!
Brilliant footage of the 'classic' Fairport, but man, all that smoking on stage. Yecch! Looks terrible, and think of what it did to the mic capsules..
