Music actually starts at 3:30. You're welcome.
thank you!
You beat me to it. :)
thanks bro
he sure likes to yap ...
Maxwell Wergin u
It’s not just Peart being so good, but the musical composition of their music leaves little room for change. Geddy and Neil are the best rhythm section in rock music. They lay down such a solid rhythm for Alex like no other bass and drum duo.
They constantly drive each other to be better. A lot people probably don’t realize just how tight and exact their rhythms and fills are. Most musicians do, it the more casual audience member that may not really understand just how well their parts go together like a perfect jigsaw puzzle.
Being a musician I was always blown away at how every beat and fill are matched by Geddy. I don’t care which fill Peart plays, Geddy is matching it beat for beat and adding a melodic presence to it. This is what makes their music sound so different.
I can’t think of any other rock group who does that as Rush does. I was first trained to play guitar more than 45 years ago. I would later learn to play other instruments, drums keyboards and bass being some of the instruments.
So whenever I wanted to learn a song , whether it be. Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Jethro Tull or even Rush, I wasn’t happy until I could play every instrument used in the song. That was when I noticed just how precise Geddy and Neil were at matching Neil’s bass drum hits to the notes that Geddy played.
I am not much different than you, and I believe most musicians are the same. We like to elaborate on songs and see what changed we can make to add our own flavor to the song. But no matter how much I tried. It was very difficult to find place to lay something unique in their compositions. They are typically so precise and no longer represent the song if you make a change.
Any of your own fills that you may want to replace over Neil will find difficulty if you don’t also rewrite the bass line. Geddy is a master of the bass. His attack and dynamics are so unique to him. He really puts a signature and everything he plays. If you would hear even isolated tracks of his bass pieces, you can instantly recognize that you are listening to a Geddy Lee bass riff within a measure or two.
There is really no other group quite like Rush. They really don’t fit into any one genre, they kind of have their own unique genre to themselves. There are other groups who have created their own genre. Pink Floyd really doesn’t fit into any other genre but their own. Certainly Queen lives within its own genre and Jethro Tull is another. Who else sounds like Tull or Floyd or Queen? No one. I think you know that you’ve created something very unique when there is no other group who sounds similar.
I know this is an old post and the concert you went to was many years ago, but as a young musician I am glad you were able to experience Rush live, there is no one like them in that department either. I haven’t missed Rush concert since the first time I saw them live and that was on the Permanent Waves tour in 1980. It was always a treat to see a Rush concert, because everyone wants to know how tight they are live.
Can those three guys actually reproduce that sound and play all of those instrument at one time and match the studio cut? Yes they can, every time. They have always been the most precise and tightest group I have ever seen live and I have seen many great concerts in the 58 years I’ve been on this earth. Being a musician and song writer, most of my favorite concert memories were at Rush concerts. I can’t believe that any musician can watch them live and keep their jaw from hitting the floor.
I hope you had a chance to catch more than one Rush concert before they retired from touring. As a Rush fan, I never wanted to see the, stop making records and concerts.
Do one this year to honor him
Harmony Ferreira Tom Sawyer
Gozde Bayraktar I know what that song is
I was saying that he should do it again cause the drummer passed from rush
Harmony Ferreira I was saying THAT song specifically. Where did I mention that you don’t know? I also didn’t imply anything I just trying to add something
Gozde Bayraktar idk if seemed like it sorry
You really notice when a drummer is a hardcore metal fan. Beating the drums like you're marching towards battle in Valhalla
5:08 It on YYZ drum covers everywhere. Everyone just plays the open hi hat on the upbeat, when its really closed on the downbeat and open on the upbeat.
It's called a drum cover not a drum precision.
Its not precision. That's the way your supposed to play it.
It's called a song, not an improvisation...
When you cover a song, there should be no personal touch or anything like that, it's not your song to begin with. Covers are a way of honoring your influences, to me it's just disrespectful to remix it as you like. Kinda like saying, "hey my version is better".
HMan2828 totally agree
HMan2828 it's called a cover, not a copy. Tell every other major act who has put their artistic style on every cover song ever done that it's disrespectful.
One word my young friend. DYNAMICS. You don't need to beat the piss out of the Hi-Hat all the time. You have all the talent just learn to back off and not smash the hell out of every drum every strike. Just my opinion though.
Yeah, i noticed the same thing, also i noticed that hes waaay too much body effort while drumming, hes going to wear himself and wear out the drums..
He is beating the shit put of that poor hi hat
I disagree. You think Neal would play IT softer? No Way. I would play IT éven harder. Rock drummers dont touch, we hit. And finally, someone who hits the snare properly!
ok i wont do that then
@@revengeking9662 Not saying I disagree with you, but Neil hits the drums hard as hell as well. That's according to Neil himself, and his drum tech.
3:30 for actual music. :)
Clayton Rudiger theres already a link in the desc
That was amazing. I love the Blends in between songs.
This guy probably has to buy new drum heads after every session.
+Brian Moore he is sponsored by Remo and gets whatever heads he wants as long as he uses them in videos.
+Gausgovy ☆CS:GO☆ thats not really how sponsors work but anyways
the matt joy channel umm...
Dude, you ROCK. I've been playing 32 years. VERY impressed with your skills. EXCELLENT work.
anyone saying anything bad about Cooper's cover of this song needs to get lost. this kid is the man. he did an incredible job
Calvin Radcliff facts
Is he a kid or a man?
@Calvin Radcliff holy shit I hope you're kidding
Avery Molek. That is all.
Some people aren't impressed with his tendency to show off covering a drummer that deserves respect and i'll also say he didn't play the most technical passages in any of those songs either. Mostly the rhythm passages, but i will say he's a proficient drummer and he's talented.
As far as covering a song, yes, most songs you can put your own spin on them, but there are some musicians and bands that are legendary and they deserve a mutual consensus of respect from the music community and especially from younger generations because they are the masters that did it first and did it best. So, to a degree, i understand why some people feel like he defiled the songs by showboating. But for the most part, the kid's a fan, he idolizes his favorite drummers and he does do this in honor of them, so it makes sense to lighten up and cut the kid some slack.
A little constructive criticism perhaps? While I admire your talent at juggling the sticks and going into each song part almost seamlessly and flawlessly, you don't seem to exhibit the same kind of nimbleness and control that Neil Peart shows when he plays drums, you seem to be too preoccupied with hitting the drums as hard as you can. But then again, this isn't really supposed to be an exact "replica" of his drumming, it's sort of your take on these songs with some improv, and I can understand that. But I really like that stick juggling, I wish I could do that. That's some pretty good showmanship there.
That's because he is not neil peart. He cannot be as flawless as peart no matter how good he is. Nobody can do that.
+Rupert Cornholio I thought you were being kind. This guy hits everything so hard, there is no feel in what he does. Looks like he never knows where he is going next. Never seems comfortable. Plus he simplified all the semi-difficult parts in order to make them extremely easy to play.
+goodshoes07 really semi-difficult? they're very difficult ok. Neil peart is a pro drummer and it's all very difficult
***** for a punk like you maybe. I'm very aware of how good Neil Peart is you fukin bitch. Doesn't mean that EVERY part to EVERY song is difficult just cuz he's a fantastic drummer. Dumb fuk.
+goodshoes07 Wow. Did you grow up as a feral boy? You need to be on meds.
10/10 jams, 10/10 posters. Well done my man.
I consider myself one of the biggest RUSH fans around, been following them since the early 80's during my high school days. All I have to say is GREAT JOB and nice showmanship, keep up the great drumming!
Great cover you nailed it. But I think I found Camerons double from Ferris Bueller's day off.
Adam King cover sucked bruh
You should do a full YYZ cover, i bet it would kick the crap out of you and would be very entertaining.
i am 53 yrs old,great job,keep the music going
The most excellemt percussionist we heard since 1970s enjoyed the lesson son.
Hats off! Awesome dude!
"I'm not as good as Neil Pert." Well, at least you're being honest.
Can u link the video where you play it better?
"you can't even compare they're all the best" saved
The best part about this video… The kid looks like he's having a really good time! Never thought about playing 16th notes during "Spirit of Radio"! I know you enjoyed the concert… I was there with you.
I love the showmanship. Can you do Clive Bunker's studio version of A new day yesterday? Seems difficult to me. You won't have to add anything.
Awesome! Well done, dude.
Not even sure why anyone would throw a thumbs down on this guy but glad I got to see it !!
We will be seeing this young man again hitting the big time!!
MORE RUSH COVERS !!!
Tried to do the same...didn't work out.
My favorite songs by my favorite band all mashed up in one.
My goodness, you sir are a genius. That was utterly fantastic.
Great work
amazing cover. the people that are criticizing you are to busy thinking about mean things to say rather than actually watching you're amazing covers.
P-EAR as in 👂T
Michael Purdie Abbott Do
Michael Purdie Abbott finally someone who pronounce it right
Michael Purdie Abbott nah its literally pronounced purt.
HomesliceDrummer no no Its not
You're just fucking with Homeslice, aren't you? There's actual video of Neil pronouncing his own last name for an interviewer just so people stop mispronouncing it;)
What are your thoughts on carter Buford of the Dave Matthews band
Evan Hubbard YESSSS
Evan Hubbard hahahaha garbage!
@@jondohnson5538 your playing?. Probably
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BEEN PLAYING MUSIC FOR YEARS AND YOU KNOW WHAT BRO? YOUR AMAZING!!!
No need to apologise, Casey. You nailed it! Those who criticise usually do so because they feel intimidated or threatened by your talent - or just because of pure, ugly jealousy. I've played the drums on and off for over 30 years and I wish I had half of your talent. Keep it up and I hope the Rush concert was cool. God bless! :-)
3:30 Is when it actually starts.
That's cool
+. Nero lol thx
Don't hate! Cooper is AWESOME! Very good young man... Impressive.
Hey pal.
I have been listening to Rush for coming close to 40 years.
I am no drummer but have probably listened to YYZ etc, 1000's of times and know all the little niche kicks Peart puts in to his percussion.
I have to say I have heard others cover their music, and styles, but you really do a fantastic job of emulating his work so you have my praise, for what its worth.
I dont go in for all the stick flick stuff but I was impressed with what you did there it was pretty clever.
I went to learn drums years ago and was "tested" by the instructor, and he said I could never play well as I couldn't match 3 different beats on two hands and my feet, and I am far too old to start now, (and the wife would kill me smashing shit in the spare room, )
Keep playing like this mate you are very talented. Well done
See, this explanation and understanding of your art is what makes you so brilliant! Great drummer and great young man. You inspire me to practice every day!
too many cymbal hits. really took everything away from the music. You cannot keep hitting crashes with the guitar and bass, it takes away flavor. Neil puts the perfect amount and that should never be overdone.
Nah.
Yea
He’s not trying to copy Neil
swoon why not ! you can't put your own stamp on these classics, just saying.
Ke Dro agreed man I’m just saying nobody can copy the master
I can't believe there is an angry 14 comment thread on how say Peart.
Creative drumming man! :)
Hey Cooper let me say this and I am a drummer for a very long time. I think your great and will only get better with time as everyone does. The main thing is you love drumming and I can see that in you and that is what makes you a great drummer.Keep up the great work because I love watching you drum. Great Job !!!!!
No matter what anybody says, I've gotten lost in your video feed for hours on end just totally amused, keep up the great videos man! Excited to watch you end up bein' in the drummers hall of fame one day!
Needs more cowbell. lol
I kid, Good stuff man.
3:26 You're welcome
I'm smiling...good job! The beginning of TomSawyer...the little splash cymbal deal you put in there....very tasteful...loved it!
Excellent vid !!!! Here is a guy who having fun playing MUSIC !!! Doesn't matter if it's all the right notes ! The groove is there and it was a pleasure to watch...And U really nail the sticks habilities !! It's cool to watch !!!
Neil Peart and John Bonham are the best
Great job, but by the comments it seems they are many that can do it much better so keep practicing. Haha. Everyone knows it all, egos are a funny thing.
For those of you who like to comment negatively on videos like this, obviously you are very superficial. Most people worry about playing fast or having awesome fills but fail to perfect the fundamentals. Casey has more passion and more drive than most drummers today. That's really what matters. To have fun and play your heart out. Kudos to you man. You really have what it takes to become not really good, but great. Keep up the good work and continue to inspire those who appreciate real musicianship.
NOTHING BUT LOVE MY MAN.YOU KEEP IT REAL HOMES.
3:26
You need to learn how to say Neil's last name.
Excellent job
It's annoying. But I've given up on that 😜 Many will never learn
I just want to say i love the passion behind the kit.Very few people truly love the work that they do . Keep rockin
This was Fabulous!!! So glad you did Rush!
2112 please??
needs more fills.
Absolutely amazing!
Fantastic job!!! Watching drum covers of my favorite songs is basically all I watch on UA-cam and you made my search worth while. I can tell that you felt as if you won the race on this medley and trust me, you most definitely did and you were able to add your own flare to it which made it all the more interesting to watch.
I've been a rush drummer for many years and can say that you're flashy and all but I wouldn't suggest adding to a song that you don't have down yet or can't play fluidly, looked choppy and certain parts that you tried to do correctly weren't right, good job and all for working hard but even Neil talks about "serving the song", adding should be a bit more complimentary, kinda like speech, sometimes you can say too much or too little, be too bold or too timid. Doesn't mean it's right or wrong, simply that it doesn't fit that situation, keep on working
First, I think when it comes to being fluid, i think Coop3r's pretty much got that down with all his songs. Second, this isn't supposed to be the same version of the song, its a drum cover. Drums are emphasized, so naturally they are louder and there is more drumming.
Terrible, just terrible......I tried over and over to find a miss count on your playing and I could not. Either it was perfect or my ears are getting old. Great job, loved the nuances you made in this. You didn't change it you just made it your own.
i agree with you 100%
Bruh it’s video sucked booty hole, this guy talks way to much and this video is lame, the stuck tricks are gross and your gross I’m sure to, I’m pretty sure it’s your eyes and ears that are bad bruh
Collin Radcliff using the word"bruh" proves you're a duche bag
Joey Mills ok “bruh” lets see u whip out some sticks and play YYZ, bet u I can play it better then u ever will.
@@collinradcliff9747 holy fucking ego trip bro. Instead of belittling other musicians try encouraging and giving constructive criticism instead. Don't talk down on someone if no one knows who the fuck you are
This video is so awesome. Cooper Drummer is my absolute favorite UA-cam er
Thank you. Was looking for Tom Sawyer but you're right!
Danny Carey (Tool), IMO is better
Yep.
It's pronounced PEE-RT......
Whatever on the pronunciation...
Amen
After reading some of these comments, I understand why people are reluctant to cover the greats. If you miss a note or two, you get an army of people (who have probably never touched an instrument before in their lives) rushing to criticize. All in all, I thought you did an excellent job.
AWESOME DUDE!!! Loved it
the stick tricks are badass!!!
Completely ruined the song. I understand it's a cover and you don't HAVE to play it exactly. But all of the unnecessary fills added in is so nerve racking. And the stick tricks are pretty annoying too.
It's called a cover for a reason
Ledga Proxus If you'd notice in my original comment, I clearly said that I understand that it's a cover and doesn't have to be exactly 100% correct. But I feel like all of the fills he adds in sound so bad placed on top of the original drum track. And the stick tricks he does are so unappealing to the eye. Way too much of it.
Matt ...exactly a cover, when you do a cover you look for all the little things. Especially when doing Rush, That means note for note, because that’s what Neil does. And those stick tricks are overkill.
maeu59 I agree.
You're good but will never be as great as Neil
Hunter Bunn at what part of the video did he say he was better than Neil?
Never said he did
Hunter Bunn yess!! Say it loud and proud
i agree with you on that rush's songs are perfect, they have the best drummer, and my favorite bassist and he sing like a true rocker.
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one to use that snare on a drum set
You know, you're a decent drummer but but all those stick tricks are kind of obnoxious. Good job otherwise.
Yep, spot on. Enough with the bandstanding and get to it
couldnt agree any more. When playing something as big as Rush you need to play with respect and all this bullshit drum sticks flying isn't very good looking. Neil lets his drumming do the talking thats why you dont see him do stick tricks.
+hoodcubed if you can play like that you can do what ever you want. STOP HATING.
no you cant do whatever you want not when playing over something played by the worlds best drummer ! the stick tricks are annoying and makes you a cocky drummer
+hoodcubed really, why don't you ask Neil how he feels. stop your Internet hate, it's annoying.
Juggling sticks super annoying when you do it all the time. You wouldn't end every four bar passage with a fill. It just makes me want to leave a negative comment, look away, and change videos.
Casey's said this in a video but basically he says that he only does excessive fills and stick tricks in his covers to entertain. He never does that in actual performances
kahwigulum yes preach this video was trash!
Love love love this!!!
4:10 that insane stick trick caught me off guard. That was sick
Stop juggling your sticks!! Work on your hands.
Brian Bradley agreed
Play the fuckin song!. Stop with the intro.
Then skip it... Stop trolling and use your brain. Wait.. You don't have one. Nvm sorry. Bye.
+Camron Robb OHH! You burned him!
+Camron Robb Need some aloe Vera for that burn??
+Chris Hall dude, the intro was perfect!
+Chris Hall You seriously can't be that lazy? Skip the intro.
I LOVED IT! You sound great and fun to watch!!!
Amazing! Incredible job! Keep on rocking!!!
Great playing but get his name right, please. If you claim to know his work, know his name. It's pronounced PEERT, not PERT.
How ignorant are you? It's Neil Peart, and he pronounces it properly (PERT). How do you pronounce PEAR (the fruit)? Just add a T.
It's actually Peart (peert), and that comes from Neil himself. Think of Spear with a T.
Thank you! The rest of you stupid fucks that think you aren't ignorant can STFU. What other kind of dumb shit do you spout off on before knowing anything about it?
Peart does originate from the name Pert. And since it is a old scottish name. Then it would make sense to pronounce it, as a scotsman would. Or is Ma' bum oot the windae?
How do you pronounce "DOUCHE BAG"? Don't act all high and mighty like someone can't mispronounce a name and be familiar with his work at the same time. "If you claim to know his work..." Get outta here with that BS. I have friends and people I work with, that I've mispronounced their names for YEARS without even knowing because they don't correct me or anyone else because it's mispronounced so frequently that either pronounciation is accepted. Potato/Potahto. Quit being a one-upper and go back in your cave, troll.
I don’t know why so many people have to pick fault, it’s obvious it’s your interpretation of the song and it’s obvious you’re not trying to be the man himself....I think you did a great job.
I love watching your energy and showmanship, well done buddy!
ignore the haters, you have talent beyond these haters,,,,,,they only wish to have your extreme talent,,,,i bow to thee, and,,,,btw,,,ive been drumming 38 years,,,,,,,,,,,, you are amazing, with a great attitude,,,,,bravo
What a class act!!! Rush was an amazing show!!! You kick ass man
Well, that was tight! You did exactly what you set out to do, and then some. Nice job. And, to all your naysayers--fie on you. This kid's got it. Well done, sir!
SWEET Showmanship!!! Amazing!
An absolutely amazing video! I havent even finished watching it! Wow!!
A genius these days these years.
rush is one of my all timr favorite bands, thank you for doing this drum medley! You did awesome man.
Usually, drum covers on UA-cam by self-promoted drummers can really be a wash. Not to put myself on a pedestal or anything, but few drum covers I see make me feel the groove and actual music of the song like you did. Great job. Keep it up.
That was incredible...Great job!!!!
Neil is my all time fav drummer and I think you did a GREAT job. Very impressive with the drumstick play at the same time...showoff!! lol
I loved it! Keep up the great work!
You've got IT kid. Stellar job!
dude Casey if u were willing to put more than 30 min to an hour in to rush songs i have faith in u as a very talented drummer to nail it. your awesome dont ever think otherwise. alot of ppl can play but never get to your level. rock on Casey! your one of my favorite drummers
The Band would be proud!
Great playing! Those sick tricks are awesome.
Outstanding!
When Spirit of Radio played I got chills......then Tom Sawyer brought back some childhood memories of me sitting in my room listening to 106.5.
Nice medley. Fun to see you having fun! Well done!
