    Sorry I missed the live show. It’s very informative especially for new beekeepers. Hadn’t heard about using bananas 🍌 before, so I’ll keep it in mind if I have this issue. Also thanks for my latest hybrid flow hive it’s almost ready for my bees. I’m going to swop out my old hive for my new hybrid 1. I’ll send you some pictures to your website of the change over. Thanks again TrickyTrev 👍🐝🍯

    I have been using bananas on my hive recently that is experiencing chalk brood. It doesn’t seem to have broken the cycle and bee numbers are quite low. I plan to remove the queen and combine them with another hive. Interestingly at one of my inspections when I cut the banana and added to the top of the frames the bees did all fly straight at the banana before I could place it down and covered it immediately. They haven’t always reacted like that when adding a banana. Thanks for the tip regarding the use of a shim.

    This is kind of entertaining watching those bees get more and more angry at you

    I can't find a follow-up video about the banana outcome. I found this very interesting! If you made one, can you add the link? Many of your videos offer excellent advice that applies to any style hive, I appreciate you making and posting them.

      The bees wax the cell foundation, build it out with their own comb, and fill this in with honey. The movement created through opening the Flow Frame, turns the hexagons into a zigzag channel that honey can flow down and out of the hive. -Kieran

      Hey Casey,
      Thanks so much for sending the mints! We happily have received them. Since the floods here I have been working far away from the office but I intend to go back soon and get them, along with relocating my hive, so I will definitely get in touch with you as soon as I've had the privilege of trying your method out! - Danika

    I would like to know a good placement for a beehive. I live in the city and don't have a very big backyard. I wart. I was thinking of putting it on the side yard facing the sun but that part of the yard doesn't get sun all year. Any advice

    • @FlowHive
      @FlowHive  2 роки тому

      Beekeeping in the city is possible, some beekeepers will put hives on a balcony or even the roof. Having a hive positioned in sun for the morning with partial shade during the hottest part of the day is best, but you might be limited in which case bees will adjust to wherever they are located. Make sure to inform neighbours as they might be surprised by the presence of bees a jar of honey can go a long way. -Kieran

    Mr. Cedar please forgive me for interrupting but I have a question about bee monitoring please. How many times a month should a beekeeper inspect his or hers bee colonies please sir.

    • @FlowHive
      @FlowHive  2 роки тому

      It depends on your observations of the hive, you should inspect ever 1-2 weeks when you first set up a beehive to best ensure they are establishing themselves. Then once or twice every one or two months, really depending on what you are noticing from outside the hive. A drop in population would prompt an inspection, or checking in on the colony after bad weather would also good. -Kieran
