Fun fact. The rule of nines is a tool used by paramedics to determine the severity of burn victims, where body parts are divided into nines in percentages to quickly get an idea of how much of a patients body is burned.
@@SeditiousJerk Well, she says "i had a dream of schism, enforce the rule of nines, living in premonition...". For me the whole song is about a co-dependent relationship between two psychologically wounded people trying to navigate their damage and the relationship is crumbling. So, enforce the rule of nines to try and heal it by figuring out what's wrong before the schism happens.

The line "if that's what you like, your lesions will blur the lines" to me shows she is feeling like she is losing herself in his wounds and atempts to heal him and the relationship. The "open up my mind" part is really interesting though. Like she feels she will find a new self by him destroying the old one so she is almost grateful for the abuse.
Your enthusiasm is refreshing as hell and you've got a great sense for music, especially once you delved into how important and effective a blank space can be. Nothing grabs your attention more than well-used silence. If you're a fan of tight bass and good vocalists, you should check out Jinjer aswell. Teacher Teacher, Perennial, Pit of Consciousness and I Speak Astronomy are all good choices. Probably have my favourite bass player ever in Jinjer.
Started listening to them January of 2019. 2nd favorite band by February 2019. Every song is special. I'll recommend 'The Beauty of Suffering' (Live Courtney vocal performance). Enjoying the channel sir!
@@Roguenjosh Definitely should check out their live performances, they are incredibly good! But I would recommend to listen to the studio versions first, so listening and watching their live stuff feels even more amazing hahah :) Courtney did a live performance of Belcarra and The Beautfy of Suffering. Their latest live set is (not just Courtney) is their three part song The Mara Effect Part 1, 2 and 3 in one session. Looking forward to more Spiritbox on your channel! Cheers!
Spiritbox again and damn I love Spiritbox! This is a banger! Thank you for another reaction and review of one of their songs. Their compositions are so technically and unique as you mentioned and I freaking love it. Every single song is just a masterpiece. All the instruments sounding so good and thick, the whole composition is perfectly fitting Courtney's vocals, just amazing. And I also love their transitions between the parts of the songs especially in this one when the second verse and groove kicks in. Every song just giving me chills. Can't get enough of them and I'm glad you enjoying it too! See you in the next one. Cheers!
Mike the guitar player, writes all of the music parts, guitar, bass and drums, and Courtney writes all the lyrics..they're still a relatively new band..so at this stage, only have an EP and a singles collection, they have written new music...Courtney said they were soon to be shooting a new video, and then off for a short tour, one show in Canada then over to Europe...possibly an album when they return from their tour, fingers crossed...you gotta see their video Belcarra next
@@pazwretzky4673 The video has something to it, even if it is more simple then previous ones. I love the style, and I also like how it is getting wilder and wilder with the music like reaching a climax. The song is nice, I like it a lot. Their sound still really fits me, even if this one is a lot less dark then other stuff I like from them. You still feel the underlying DFM-vibe which is so nice. I grew up with Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr and similar music and this new song of DFM is a bit of a move into that direction which is good for me. And what do you think?
@@conditionsunderground I think maybe I should give it another spin...maybe there's something I'm missing, because I do like their previous work...seeing as you have an ear for good music, I was just curious on your thoughts

Awesome Mate! They are my third favourite band after Nightwish and Jinjer. Gonna see them in 4 weeks time in Vienna opening for After the Burial (US) and the Aussies from Make Them Suffer . This last video is their heaviest and is , as you said, pretty Technical. I'm your subscriber so keep up with the horns up, Cheers from Norway!
Wow! I haven't heard a The Butterfly Effect reference in AGES! I can see that a bit. Damn, I loved that band when I was in college and first heard "Crave".
I know that this reaction was a long time ago, but I'm wondering if you ever took a look at her one-take vocal performance of the song? It was quite impressive and a lot of vocal coaches were able to clearly demonstrate exactly what she was doing to get the different sounds like an instrument
"Belcarra" or "Electric Cross" should be next. Also great:"Perennial", "Trust Fall", "The Beauty Of Suffering" (live performance video) and "Aphids" (only screaming)
I love that you brought up The Butterfly Effect. Fantastic band, and really insightful comparison. TBE experimented a ton in IMAGO and now that you mention it, this is very reminiscent of them!
As a studio/session player for 30+ years (mostly guitar) I LOVE the bass in this song. Too often bands bury the bass behind everything when letting it sit out front can create such a different tone to the song. Let the guitar player play backup every now and then. ;-) Cheers.
Glad to see another person on the Spiritbox train! Top 5 band for me. Check out The Mara Effect all parts but especially part 1. Perennial and Trustfall
I love Spiritbox, killer band. If you don't know them, you may also enjoy Jinjer. Their bass player, Eugene is fantastic and does some really interesting stuff. Try Teacher, Teacher for starters: ua-cam.com/video/oRkRwL0vjOg/v-deo.html
Don't know if you listen to Polyphia, but if you're a fan of great musicianship, check out their song GOAT. For something completely different, it'd be cool to see someone check out Beartooth - I Have a Problem. The song is about addiction, and the lyrics hit really close to home. Glad you're digging on Spiritbox
Their newest video is On The Top live in Kiev and is a great performance - they had just returned home in triumph from their first headlining tour of the U.S. and Canada, and the energy is amazing (and they are every bit as good live - I saw them at two of those shows, in San Diego and my hometown Seattle). Jinjer also has a phenomenal bassist (Eugene) who is also the band's manager, though Tatiana their singer gets most of the attention haha.
@@tazzz1783 Certainly. I love Roman's guitar work though he gets forgotten too often because their sound doesn't give him an opportunity to show off as much as a lot of metal guitarists do, and Vlad is such an amazing drummer.
my personal favorits are, "Sit Stay Roll over", "Teacher, Tacher", "Who is gonns be the one", "Words of wisdom", "Perenial", "Outlander"...and pretty much every song hahahaha, but you can start with this...
