They used it because of it's 90° v-angle, to have the lowest center of gravity and fit under the hood/bonnet in front overhang position. It still sounds good though. 2498cc, 420 hp at 11.800 rpm.

Sounds like its a 6 cylinder F1 engine or something. Never heard a rally car sound like that before. If i was listening to this with my eyes closed id say this was an F1 car. Scratching my head that this is infact a rally car.
+Paco HC Not really, it's way more powerful than WTCC cars, being rated at ~490hp. In fact, it's closer in power to current DTM regulations than to WTCC (world touring cars have around 300hp, while DTM is limited to 600hp).

Ik f1 cars have turbos so they won’t have the intake noise, but come on they could sound way better.
They sounded a bit like this in the 80's turbo era
turbos work like a silencer for the engine and restrict rpms to an extent so will be hard to get a sound like this from modern f1 cars!

Personally I prefer the old v10 and v12 F1 engines. This Alfa Romeo 155 sounds exactly like the present F1 hybrid V6 engine.
