    Very interesting! It's one of the first "overlooked games" video where I actually didn't know most games and got me interested on top of it :) Gives me hope in there being so many good indie games we haven't heard of. Thank you!

      I usually stream 2-3 new indies a week over on twitch, and I dig deep into the steam store page when they release, and I'm glad that pays off with a comment like this. It makes the work feel worthy.

    DAMN, you can't just sneak up on me with the feels at the end there!! Keep up the hard work and i'll be sure to keep this list in my back pocket as the steam sale nears its end (audio sounded good to me, just sometimes there were points where the music abruptly cut off which switching from one game to the next instead of fading down)

    Great selection of games, I didn't know about most of them! One suggestion on your video making, consider sending the audio through a limiter/compressor plugin, so the volume level remains more constant :)

      Yeah, I had gotten a new Mixer for Christmas, and decided to use it this time, and I realized my process before wasn't working. I'll need to get back to the plugins, any recommendations to look at, I'll take a look at.

    Thanks Dragnix, one of the most exciting gaming videos of the year! I really appreciate that there are many multiplatform games too. I know that's not up to you anyway, but I'm glad I can pick up many of these gems on consoles.
    Didn't really get your point about not making a review for Greedventory, sorry. I even listened to that part of the video again thinking that I hadn't been paying attention, but I still don't see it. So you are w(e)ary of highlighting games that deserve the highest praise, because there is a chance they might not get enough praise? But then you also acknowledge any publicity will do them good, but you are unsure if they can get what they deserve? I'm a bit lost. I'm only going on about this because I would *love* to see a Dragnix review of Greedventory or even better Little Goody Two Shoes! The latter should also be a 10h game to see all the content according to HLTB. I know making a review of your standards is easily 100+h of work. But just know if you ever do get to it, there will be a keen audience happy to share it around! I understand if you are just tired though, and that is perfectly fine of course. Do what's good for you.
    Oh and the audio was good. I actually noticed it a little bit because some cuts back-to-back had different levels. And I think you might be clipping in a few spots. But I would not have said anything had you not asked. Sounds clear and nice already! I'm sure you'll still polish the tuning in future releases anyway.
    Happy new year, and looking forward to whatever you have in store for us next. Take your time :)

      Yeah, I know that Greedventory explanation was a bit of a word salad. Let me see if i can re-explain it here.
      Those big reviews, those 35+ minute reviews can take a lot out of me. And more often then not, when it comes to a game that I absolutely fall in love with, and in particular one that feels incredibly different then a lot of games out there, the review is going to be a long one. I know that it's one of the major weaknesses when it comes to exposing games to a more generic youtube audience: I know that when I look at my analytics, there's a lot of people who drop off in the first several minutes, and a good chunk that stay the entire time; and there's not a lot in between. Those reviews can be the hardest to swallow when they don't get viewed, but in a lot of cases, even exposing it to one or two new people would be good.
      When looking back on Greedventory, I think there were several factors that subconciciously, made me stop from just going through with the review, even though I loved the game:
      1) In general, my attention was severely divided in real life + youtube.
      2) The fact that it was an RPG. I love RPGs, don't get me wrong, but it was a game that I could classify as an RPG that had real interesting mechanics (things like dropping an item to open a trap, the whole shield reflect system), and at that time, a game was still dominating the discussion about RPG mechanics that really rewarded creativity and thinking: Baldur's Gate 3. I know it's silly to compare the two, they are very different games in the big picture, but at a first glance the hook of saying "an RPG that's mechanically different from a lot out there and rewards out of the box thinking"......would run into the brick wall of BG3 when it came to discussion.
      3) I think in essence, I was having a crisis of my own faith. I connect myself to the game's I review when it comes to the ones that you can tell that I'd drop what I'm doing to defend them immediately. The Wandersongs, VA-11 HALL-As, and games like Greedventory. When games don't do well, it hurts, and I think that low was something I was avoiding subconsciously
      4) The Criticism Carousel series. I knew that I'd talk about it no matter water with me trying that at the time, in a shorter form, and I think in the back of my mind, I wanted
      5) That talking about Greedventory, and in particular where the uniqueness was, would actually HURT the experience in some aspects. Some of the best moments of me streaming the game, was those moments where I figured out something the game was telling me with small clues...and talking about it would remove that surprise from other people's experiences. It's a catch 22 of sorts: you need the hook to get people to look at the game....but by doing so you've taken away that discovery. I think when it comes to story segments where that's the case, I'm pretty good at avoiding direct spoilers while still discussing it. With Greedventory and the gameplay specifically, I struggle to this day trying to compare/metaphorize it to a spot that I'm comfortable with the analogy.
      All those combined, and I admit, I let my crisis of my own "failures" with games getting exposed, and not wanting to get hurt again, cloud my judgment. It's a game that I want to review now with some more renewed faith, and honestly I'll have to start from the beginning just to get myself back understanding the small details/footage/etc I missed.
      Hope this explains things better.

      @@Dragnix hey, thank you for following up! I can relate now, totally makes sense. And it does sound frustrating, sorry to hear that's how things play out, especially with regards to viewership retention.
      Please do not feel pressured by my previous comment. I can tell you your coverage of Greedventory in this video has already hooked at least one person without spoiling the experience. And I'll spread the good word, so hopefully it reaches some of the audience it deserves. :)
      Looking forward to your next vid!

    I enjoyed the video. I really get being tired of trying to talk about game that deserve more attention. To the point that my GOTY this year out of everything I played is Can of Wormholes, a game with 250 reviews. Which is even more sad in a year where so many people got interested in puzzle games, so there's definitely an audience for that kind of game.

    Of the games I've played last year (and it's been largely a backlog-clearing year in which I played more games from the mid-2000's than anything), there is one particular game from 2023 that stands out to me as criminally overlooked: Repella Fella. For anyone with a history spent on old flash sites like Newgrounds, this game was made by the creator of the old Ray flash games, who's taken his skills and his own life experience and made it into a stylish adventure game set in a post-apocalyptic Australia with a wide assortment of alternate endings.

      @dwayneduphraine7024 5 місяців тому +1

    • @Fachewachewa
      @Fachewachewa 5 місяців тому

      @@dwayneduphraine7024 Yeah people tend to think Devolver never misses, but that's because they only see the game that succeed

    • @Dragnix

      There's usually a bit more of a floor when it comes to the minimum the games that Devolver Digital looks at, but this is correct, several games from Devolver do slip through the cracks.
      I think in particular what surprised me about Gunbrella was that the UA-cam creators that I follow, there was a significant amount of content I saw made about it, and it still struggled to break through despite a lot of positive feedback.

    • @Dragnix
      @Dragnix  5 місяців тому

      Most of the games in the intro were the last cuts off the list, sadly, as I had to stop somewehre. Killbug definitely is worth the time and money for anyone interested, its loop in a repetitive yet get better by learning shooter was great, it just needed one last thing to push it into the list. But consider this my endorsement of Killbug.

    Small Saga was incredible. A little too easy but what a great game. I can only imagine the kind of people who didn't like its social commentaries say things like "woke" unironically and voted for Trump. In which case, I invite them to seethe. As a queer man myself, I loved that David wasn't shy about having characters I can relate to. I also fucking loved Bat Boy, that was a fun time,. I think anyone who liked it should check out Ghoul Boy too.

    • @Dragnix
      @Dragnix  5 місяців тому

      I think if I went back on this list, I'd word that section about the "politics" more carefully, because you're right, a lot of the type of people who'd react strongly to it are people who'd react even to the smallest hints of the themes in the game in a way too volatile manner. But I also see people who were trying to escape the current climate also being driven right back in with the game's writing: it's very effective in mirroring the modern day struggles of the world in this fantasy one. It's one of those games where the idea of escapism may be hard to pull off with how effective the writing is at times.Thus, maybe not the best for someone who wants to escape that landscape, regardless of side of the issues they are on.
      I'll add Ghoul Boy to the list to check out, thanks for watching!
