Hey hello you should definitely sign up to my emails! I will send you cool stuff for inspo, share cool photography, and you actually can email me back and ask questions! I am an open book. → email.huntercreatesthings.com/ 📸
You didn't just compare Dune to The Room. You are tearing me apart, Hunter. 😂 I love you. The vid was great. I follow you for your photography content, but always was interested in filmmaking content (not much to practice it myself, but more to increase my knowledge and appreciation for those who do). From the 3 shots, I think the VHS one is my least favourite (although I appreciate the things you did to make it happen), just because I was distracted by the instant movement from window to door haha. I think my favourite is the first one, but close to the third one (which totally gave me Edward Norton vibes with those expressions, so yay you!). Also, the good music really elevates them all.
It's so cool to see you getting into cinematography, incidentally I am a video person first, and now a photographer too, and that's how I found your videos. This is a great video on the establishing shot. I await the rest of this series!!
I’m really digging your stuff. The algorithm served me one of your videos a few days ago and I keep coming back. I think you’re going to be one of the big ones soon.
Love the whole microfilms concept! Telling a story in one shot is a nice exercise for people used to stills photography too. Maybe the parallels between photo essays and storyboards / edits might be an interesting topic to explore?
Thanks - I didn't even think about the fact that it's closer to stills until now hahaha that makes so much sense! Storyboards and photo essays is definitely going on the list
does that dune shot count as establishing? i'd argue the wide angles of arriving at a location would count in that movie but in the example the context was already established
Maybe not as much establishing in terms of the narrative context but I think in terms of cinematography it counts (and it's listed as an establishing shot on ShotDeck)

Microfilms seem like a great idea for practicing specific things to improve one's cinematographic skills.
100% - it keeps things simple and I really enjoyed it!
One day we’ll look back at 2024 UA-camrs all holding mics clipped to spoons and forks and wonder wtf were we thinking?
It's funny and I will keep doing it

Hahahaha thanks Juan! The VHS one was entirely an excuse to do a scooby doo impossible movement - I think the first is also my fave of the three.
Baby driver opening scene is one of the best
I love the colors in the video one. Gorgeous actress. What a brilliant concept, the nano film. 🎉
Thank you so much!
