Photographer and Filmmaker. Currently based out of Warsaw, he has lived in Auckland, Seoul, London, Jersey and briefly, in a remote village with an Alpaca and a Goat, neither of whom liked him very much.
He'd really like it if you got in touch, especially if you're a new photographer, an academic, or just want to chat. That way, he knows for sure someone is listening, and he can stop referring to himself in the third person.

It's More Than A Camera...
The Nikon ZF has rewired my photography. It's like a refreshing summer's breeze. It's my new favourite street photography tool and it puts the D750 to shame in many regards. I like the camera. Can you tell?

How MAGNUM Photographers Are Better Than YOU

Magnum Photos is one of the most recognisable and important organisations in the whole wide photography world - but are they a relic of a prior era? Can our new, modern photography industry make space for more artistic and personal journalists with cameras? Can we, as photographers, "make it" in the same way that our heroes did? Spatchula mic!
I dont think you should be bothering people like this. It is incredibly annoying and obtrusive.
Well, the winogrand comes naturally to me, but I never thought it could help in street photography...
I just been watching videos that’s not normal in my interest of wheel house so I can more focus on how others create their videos I like that you used a wooden spoon for a mic stand. I like how you used some of the audio cues that you did when you said in New York you did a sound bite and when you cussed you did a little camera click sound. Those little sound edits help I dig it. And have been playing around with sound bites on my videos lately that’s probably why I noticed it on yours. Just doing research to improve my own videos it’s interesting to see how others create.
whats up with the stupid wooden spoon mic handle seem every "bro" youtuber does not own a real mic or mic stand!
I own plenty, the spoon is more fun
I bought my K1000 new back in the 80s and I love it. After all these years I don't even have to think about the settings, I just pick it up set the speed and aperture and take the shot, only takes a second or two. And yes, I've used it many times with a dead battery and still got beautiful pictures.
You can do two things: 1. Use M4/3 where focal length is double compared to FF so you get double reach, double DOF and same light but lenses are half the size. Check zuiko 17 25 and 45mm primes. 2. Hang your camera on your neck on desired hight and use your phone as a remote control. Nobody will suspect that you are taking photos with your camera while watching your phone.
Great tips - but my style is much more to use wider lenses and get up close !
this perfectly describes the feeling of when i upgraded from my 2017 nikon d3200, my very first camera, and bought the z5 and a new lens with it. I was so excited to just get out and shoot. i hope nikon gives you this camera as a thankyou xd
Hahaha unfortunately I did have to send it back to them!
I'm really high and scared coz you just said picking your nose at the really wrongest of times
Let me suggest a more meaningful title to your well-made video - "Its More Than The Camera". 😂
Oh, wow. The internet hates something. How about that.
We do it for the love of the game.
0:27 a spoon for a mic holder? I know a fellow Fleccas Talks fan when i see one. Subscribed.
No, it's stealth technology. You can't fool me.
I love the wooden spoon. It would hilarious on a street interview. Thanks for using Pentax!
So true
I disagree about Instagram. It's far less about actual photography now.
My gripe is that he becomes the independent variable in his photographs. I understand street photography as candids, as capturing what is already happening and easily missed. His work makes himself the event and then photographs the blink and you'll miss it reactions of people. While there is something about that to marvel about, it doesn't last very long because Bruce Gilden isn't in every city, every block, every moment. It's ill representative of the people and the city.
This is brilliant-intelligent and nuanced.
Great video 🙏🙏 subscribed
Awesome, thank you!
I have a z6 II and a z8. I don't need this camera but I want one. But I also want the z6 III for the partial stacked sensor. I have 5 film cameras. 3 are full manual cameras. One is the Nikon FM2N. I also have a Canon rebel 2000 someone gave me and a Nikon F4. Both have a manual mode but they also have auto modes. So when it comes down to that cool retro tactile feel, I have that covered. I saw a video about the auto ISO on the zf that explained it. It kind of makes sense the way they did it. I think we're just used to doing it in a different way. I love my 40mm. You are so right on the quality of the optics. I put it up there with my 85mm f/1.8 s lens. Set it to f/2 and put it along something like a stone wall or maybe flowers and see how close you can get. Look at how shallow the depth of field is. It's almost like a macro lens but without the 1:1 representation on the screen. I bought it for street photography. I now have a 28mm and I use it the most now. It's also an incredible little cheap lens.
Great video love my ZF and the 40mm
I am 50 seconds in and I say the secret is ZOOOOOOoooooooooommm
“is the way he takes photos even ethical in the first place, and most importantly of all, are the photos any good?” i highly disagree with this statement. if you think the final product of work is more important than the ethics of it, you need to re evaluate your moral compass.

Nice video. I've had a Zf for 4 months, and I'm happy with it in spite of its quirks (which I knew about before buying it). You didn't mention the B&W switch, which is one of my favourite features. Any reason for that?
I like the B&W switch but it's fairly straightforward to do with a custom button on most mirrorless cameras, which is why I didn't mention it :)
This camera is all over UA-cam at the moment! Is Nikon sending this back out the creator’s because sales are slow??? Nikon, where are your lenses with aperture rings? Make some and you’re worth consideration
I bugged them for ages to get one for a review - if they hadn't sent it, I'd have rented it. Thing is, it's a stellar camera, which makes it great for making content around. I found that using this with adapted vintage lenses was superb, especially with the eye detect working even with manual focus. Worth a go!
Looks at drawer full of lenses...stares in to the void... one more. Just one more
what was the name of the song you used during the 3-day rental slate?
Got ZF in March (traded away a D750 and SONY a6300 toward cost) this year and it's taken long to get control. That is, for ISO and Exposure Comp. use. So after all, my preferred use of Zf is Manual. A must then, is auto ISO off and bracketing off; otherwise I've found the EC top dial, and any in menu (such as i-Menu) is fully disabled. ZF ISO change is more frustrating. with any autoISO/ shutter functions enabled, no matter what you turn the number too, by any camera menu or 'dial; button, in taking photos is NOT changed. In those cases, to leave other settings the same, I change the ISO number and turn camera off then on... which is a ridiculous way to go. I am NOT sure if this is similarly so in DSLR< even though I am keeping a D810 and some F-lenses! In addition to M, in good light and or for test or record pics, I go to Auto. And love using B+W lever. Can set EC dial. I use Aperture priority less than these. Manual works for me in making any changes on the fly, and the fast changes in light downtown etc. in NYC walk-around.
The camera in an oven got me lol
I was laughing while filming it tbh hahaha
Damn you got massive pockets that even fit that massive Zf. Yes, it's massive, which is one of the main reasons I won't buy it despite being tempted many times to pull the trigger. Waiting for Z5II. Good review though, really enjoyed it.
Thanks! The pockets on that jacket are absolutely cavernous tbh, one of the reasons I bought it. To me the ZF feels small compared to what I was using before, but I can definitely see the appeal of something a little more compact!
Love and miss dials in my z6II. Often get out the old FE and play with it. Wonder if the ZF or any model could be more compact if they left out the video capability. Cheers
Maybe - I didn't get to fully test the video, but the few clips I did get came out super! I think with an updated log curve it could be a real sleeper
My favorite new camera in quite a long time! Auto-ISO - agreed, all I need is for the manual ISO dial to instantly disable Auto-ISO when selecting a manual ISO setting. Wish it had IBIS Lock when the camera is off (like every other Nikon) but I'm not jogging with the Zf so I suppose it's ok. The simple little instant B&W mode switch is probably my favorite feature. I bought the Zf last fall thinking I'd sell it when the Z6III released, and here we are a year later and it doesn't leave my side. 😎📷
Exactly!! Thanks :)
You like the retro look of the camera. End of story lol
No not really, hence the further 8 minutes of video

Learn how to pronounce NIKON properly there is no Ý' in NIKON and your not a septic !
i shot my gf's tennis photos and trust me even with older 70-200 vrii, the autofocus and files are love. totally suprised.
Nice!!!
I really want to try this camera but I don’t think it would become my ‘sparks joy’ camera simply because of the size and weight.
imo it's really not that big or heavy but that might just be me coming from Camerasaurus Rex being my normal
I passed on it when it first came out... I had bought a used Z6ii... So I waited and did the Z8 tradeup from my D850. A year later: I keep my Z8 on the shelf and am only using my Z6ii and my Z50. I'm gonna give my Z6ii to a friend and buy the now discounted Zf. I thought i needed the Z8.... Great video!
Thanks!
Genuinely curious: what keeps you from grabbing the Z8 rather than the Z6ii when you leave home? I have a Z8 on loan at the moment, and I find it very exciting compared to my Zf or to any camera I ever owned. Weight? It is around 100g more than a Zf with accessory grip. That is really not much of a difference. And it is in fact easier to carry in my right hand, ready to shoot, simply because it is better designed for that. I find the Z8 snappy, fun to use, much easier to customise, perfectly balanced, and the 45MP give me peace of mind when framing. I know I have plenty of room to crop, change aspect ratio, etc. I am now thinking of investing in a Z8 of my own, and pondering if I'd throw the Zf into the swap bag. But then I see other users pondering the exact opposite, and am second guessing myself. Sorry for long rant. So, what keeps you from loving your Z8?
The Zf will be a legend like the Nikon FM3, F3, D700. The Df was so close but they put a substandard AF on it.
DF still underrated in the fun category imo, but the ZF is definitely the closest they've got to a 10/10 fun level
omg amazing cinematography, I wonder who did such an amazing job?!
Insane results tbh
great video as usual, but i hate you for making it 😔 I'm shooting with a D750 myself but have been starting to get annoyed with the size of the camera and the lack of "aura". Apart from the D750 I've been playing with analog cameras a lot and I'm missing the haptics from them. For the past couple of weeks I've been thinking about getting a Nikon ZF because it seems to fill that gap perfectly (apart from the size maybe), especially because I could use all my other lenses on it (with adapters). Uggghhh, now i gotta go buy one. One last thing, did you find anything about the camera that annoyed you, compared to the D750?
Tbh I expected to want to use the D750 at points but no not really. It has much more advanced AF so sometimes it would focus on a face when I didn't want it to, mapping a button to toggle face detect fixed this. Other than dual full size SD, there's not really anything I'd change. Battery life was surprisingly good, I used it for a whole week and only charged it once!
The lore of megapickles needs unraveling. Are they larger than normal pickles? More tasty? More powerful? Please advise
Biblically accurate megapickles are the gold standard
Forwarding this video onto my wife before arriving home with my new SL2 tomorrow 👍
Good luck soldier
That’s why I got an M. The ultimate fun useless camera 🤣
Second to none!
I'll keep my XT5, the Nikon is a brick.
XT-5 is super! I guess to me the ZF feels light compared to my usual rig
