Battle of Britain Model Squadron - Marking the 80th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain

- The pilots of "Battle of Britain Model Squadron" re-united at BMFA Buckminster to fly and film on 9th & 10th September 2020. All the flying sequences are our radio control models - none of the in-flight clips are full-size planes. Some were flown by line of sight, but three were flown FPV, and cockpit footage from those three models is mixed in with external shots which were taken from the ground and a chase quad.
In addition to marking the 80th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain, the reunion also marked the 2nd Anniversary of the airing on Channel 4 of the final episode of "Battle of Britain Model Squadron", allowing us once more to take to the sky in mass formations and furballs. All the flying clips in this production were filmed in just two mass aerial "battles", with a few clips added from two other flights, involving only 2 aircraft on each flight.
We are aware that some of the Spitfires are Mk IXs in late war camouflage, and that the 109s are also later wartime versions. But these are our own models and we allow ourselves some slack in the interests of personal cost management!
It was sad that our German squadron buddies were unable to join us for the re-union this year, as was originally planned, but Coronavirus had other ideas.
I have used a few music and movie clips and have acknowledged that in the on-screen credits.

Excellent job a worthy tribute
amazing, what an effort in equipment and editing
and of course at the flight level, thank you so much for sharing
My pleasure!
I love everything about this. You guys did a tremendous job recreating the battle of Britain in RC.
My goodness; how quickly things happen up there in the sky! A second or two of an aircraft in your sights, and then it's gone - maybe to come around onto your tail. Your compilation is fantastic and a real eye-opener for what air combat is like. Thanks for sharing. Simon (son of a WWII Spitfire pilot, who flew over 400 combat hours in Spits).
We do what we do because we were inspired by the courage of men like your father Simon - and to be fair it's huge fun when there aren't real bullets coming your way. I have shared your feedback with the team - it is very much appreciated.
Bloody Brilliant- Great video! I came here via a link from the Dynam Hurricane thread on RC Groups. This is hands down the best RC airplane video I've seen, and I've seen plenty! It's infinitely better than the usual RC airplane video where a tiny dot swans around in the distance. Great job on splicing in the BOB movie and using the original music. I hope this is the first of many videos from your team!
Outstanding effort in organizing the model squadron, preping equipment, flying and editing this film - love the smoke and explosion effects. Tremendous work John! Respect!
Bloody marvelous film...
Bloody marvellous!
Bloody good show old boy!
Wow, such a great job guys, "This was our Finest Hour" never forget
Bloody amazing.
Nice work. The FPV views were very interesting and give a great impression of flying from the seat of your pants in combat. Well done to all involved in putting on a great show.
Glad you enjoyed it
Wow that was amazing a great bit of filming.
Ralph
Brilliant. The cockpit view from the Bf110 is amazing. Good job all - well done!
Brilliant, Brilliant, Brilliant
This is fabulous, thanks guys!!
What a masterpiece! Music from movie always catch me so much!
Awesome work, gave me shivers! Way to go! Great respect to the heroes of the past and a look into the future of rc aircombat with historical warbirds! Hope some day we'll see it as an international discipline )
Awesome, chaps...bravo
Thanks a lot!
Fantastic!
Yes, great job, enjoyed it very much. You must have had good fun doing this and all without loosing single plane in a mid-air collision. .
Glad you enjoyed it
Well put together! What a fun time 😁
Great video John.....i enjoyed that well done 👏
Glad you enjoyed it
Sure wish I could have been there. Hoping for the next year to come over again my friend
❤this is unbelievable well done guys
Bloody marvelous
Bloody Marvellous
What a great effort. The flying and perhaps even more the editing are excellent. Thanks very much.
It was great to see Buckminster in use. I was looking forward to the RCME fly-in this year as I enjoyed last year's so much but this is small compensation.
That was great fun to watch and must have been just as much fun to make. Great job :) Channel 4 could learn something from you guys! I was flying my Durafly Spitfire down on the beach in Cornwall on Battle of Britain day :)
Dude, you've got mad skills! I'm glad you decided to make UA-cam videos instead of concurring the world! 😉
"Bloody marvellous!" Anybody else thinking "boomps-a-daisy....it's enought to make you weep" viewing the final bouncy landings? :)
You can't believe how tempted I was to drop that over the top of the Hurricane landing John!
Wow, who ever thought this one up, Well done chaps, Executed Brilliantly, loved the camera shots from the models, and outtakes from the film. 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Have yet to slap FPV in a fixed wing but this really has me giddy! awesome work, will be putting the dji setup in a warbird very soon, too bad there are no simple head tracking options on the market these days..
very good job mate, cheers
Fantastic! You made my day.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great!
Very interesting, watched this on channel 4.are the planes hand built or kit form?
They are foam models Clive - the Spitfires are either Durafly, Parkzone or Dynam - same for the 109s. The 110s and Hurricanes are all Dynam.
Beware of the 'Hun' in the Sun! 🥺
ripe for collisions lol :) but well done looks great
Too true Mike - we got very lucky a couple of times - which is why we don't use any of our more expensive models in the dogfight flights!
@@johnlancaster1960 understand, they all look to good to risk though :) great to see n well put together matey Im doing the large hurricane at the moment 1/4 scale already done a 1/4 scale sopwith pup keep up the good vids matey
