  • G'day boys. Hope you enjoy my hot take on why Multiplayer Games need NPC's.
This is the first video apart of my new series i'll be creating as my passion project, it's called "My Subjective Opinion". It's where I get all the idea's bottled up inside my head out and into the world for other people to see. There are many things I want to talk about, Games; Movies; History; Life; it goes on and on. However I want to start out small before I tackle any of the topics I truly want to discuss, so I garner more experience along the way.
If you've read this, cheers! I appreciate it, until next time man, have a good one.

Another thing why multiplayer games should have NPCs is the fact that they *can make a game eternal* . Like, even if with the passing years a multiplayer game loses more and more players because of them getting bored or increasing popularity of other multiplayer projects, with NPCs the game won't die! It still will be playable even if there will be the last player that still returns to it.

Battlefront EA, and Battlefield WW1 and WW2 should have had bots not just in Campaign but also multiplayer maps like conquest with vehicles.

    god titanfall is a banger
i loved how in the og, the bots would freeze until you could see them
to guarantee you always caught them at a badass moment
where they do a cqc animation with the other grunts

Funny you mention bots for Siege. I know this is an old video, but I’d like to mention that bot support is coming to Siege. It is a big step in making sure Siege is playable when the servers are offline. Bot support in multiplayer games are essential to preserving a game.
Another game that would greatly benefit from bot support is Zombie Panic Source. That game is basically dead without human players.
PS Siege pvp are training exercises, like in the book.

I 100% agree. Killzone 1&2 did this. Red read Revolver, Unreal tournament, star wars battlefront 1&2. It all just collectively hyped me up because I loved the ability to play against bots or with bots. It even lets you play offline, it makes you feel impactful. It adds more fun. Without requiring being online playing super sweaty games all the time... It allows you to get better at the game. Plus u have the ability to play 2 types (laid back experimental or competitive online modes)

I've lost so many hours to OpenArena (an open source copy of the Unreal games) because of the AI that it's incredible

200 views huh? Well, have another one. Keep going with the quality stuff, found you through the saving HL NPC's one, but this one is cool too, so subbed. Hope you blow tf up and will be able to capitalize on it soon.

One of the things I love about videogames are AI companions/enemies in games, wether be multiplayer or singleplayer. I think they make the game more interesting if the AI is polished enough. Just like you said in Halo. I love playing Halo, and one of the things I enjoy the most is going around witha a squad of marines, each of which I gifted the most powerful gun I could find. I'd cheer them on and take care of them even. It gives me the impression that I'm trully fighting for humanity in a losing war.

You have done such a good job putting this video together. Your voice sounds good, clear, well spoken. I think your points are well made and I can feel the hype that you're generating. The music is so good and the cuts and edits you've made might be simple but it's all relevant and pretty to look at. I think it's clear that you put in a decent amount of work and heart into your videos. Don't you dare give up on the dream. If you can muster the courage to keep making high quality content like this, your channel will no doubt blow up.
Also, your video about the #Metro series was great. #Borderlands3 was recently announced. I think it would be cool to see you stream all the past games on #Twitch and then put together a retrospective on the series on #UA-cam. I think your break down and interpretation of #GearBox would be fascinating.
I also really like that your videos seem to be upbeat and more focused on the positive aspects that we all relate to but don't always realize it when we're playing the #games.
Anyway, don't stress about it, I'm just making an unsolicited suggestion. Stay humble, and keep saying what you want to say. If you're having fun, then we're having. I'm hoping good things come your way and looking forward to what you make next. As an annoying friend of mine always says, stay #StrongForAChange.

Hey Man! I have no idea if you'll see this message, but I just needed to say reading this all those years ago has genuinely given me such inspiration and joy. Aha I am sorry for not responding back then, but better late then never 😅 Honestly man, I had saved and kept this comment as a beautiful reminder of the absolute lovely things people can do on the internet. I had fun back then, and I'm still having fun with this now, I hope to hear that you've been enjoying yourself as well!
After I had made that 3rd video, I went on a "break" of sorts; but I lost the drive to create new content, mostly because my circumstances had changed. I can say though all these years later, Ahaha I do still cringe at my own videos sure, but all the opinions I've said through them I still 100% still completely agree with. I've decided I want to take another swing at this, and use the skills and knowledge I've gained the past few years to actually make better content.
I'm just glad someone like you had taken the chance to watch small video like this. To that I say cheers!

Titanfall will always be special to me for multiple reasons and one is the grunts running about and the way they’d react to the environment. If you killed 3 out of 4 soldiers the last would shout for backup. If you ran by in a titan they’d react to it. Amazing game and ahead of its time.

I agree with this, but think that multiplayer NPCs should serve more function than just aesthetic. If you want to simulate the feeling of a war, then the NPCs should be dangerous. The performance of players on their team should result in more troops spawning for their side via capturing command posts, or caches, or securing zones suitable for dropships. This would truly add to the feeling of the match being a warzone. Some may say that the NPCs would take away from player performance, but the NPCs pressance and effectiveness is directly tied to the player's performance as a reward for their efforts and teamwork.

The grunts are great for distracting enemy players while you gun them down. They are unlikely to actually kill any players but they deal enough damage that you can't always just ignore them.

Fun fact: Sometime after this video was made Battlefront 2 added a new game mode where around a dozen basic AIs spawned with players to help cap and defend points in a grand conquest mode.

I love ai matches in BF2042 as it is just so much more immersive (no dumb fortnite looking skins), you have more options (e.g. actually being able to get good vehicles at the start of the match) and you aren't killed every 10 seconds by some tier 1 skin meta player who has grinded every day since the beta. Also what you said about SWBFII (and everything else) is absolutely true. Great video.

The Titanfall franchise has no offline bots. The Grunts are NPCs, not bots. The first Titanfall requires a constant Internet connection and an active subscription (on consoles) to play. Other than that I completely agree with you.

I think Overwatch could benefit a lot from bots.
it's player vs player, yes, but it's more like hero vs hero and ability vs ability and not just a "kill the opposing team" game. you have objectives and the heroes have certain abilities to achieve them. But if you can't rely on your team (e.g. in a random match up) and you can resporn again anyway and really only need 2 times 30 seconds to capture a point and win the match (in theory), people will just run around killing each other instead of playing the objective. To pick a Hero perfect to capture the point and to hold it is just less appealing if you can play a DPS assassin instead
But bots could also attack the target, giving a reason to win the match now instead of chasing down Tracer

I tried this for Qorena. No one will still buy nor more importantly play my game. Even for many who acquired the game free during early access and the many updates and improvement I made to the game, my servers are still not populated. Giving me the impression this strategy ultimately does not matter in the long run. If nigh no one cares for MP anymore besides a select few games, why even bother with MP at all?

Also old battlefront games had npcs fighter each other capturing command post along side you. Sure u could play multi-player with a bunch of players but their was still npc running around and they'd still kill you. Take your bases and give u a since of scale.

Dota2 is the game which has the highest raiting of all games Ive palyed. I assure you its not the same thing again. Basically every third match is completely unique even if youre like me and constantly play the same hero. Also dota has a lot of lore, look up ser action slacks.

Also your video states "Why Multiplayer Games need Bots", yet instead you have NPCs in your thumbnail and description. You do realize bots and NPCs are not the same thing? Although the Bot is a child of the NPC (and sibling of the monster), it does not necessarily mean they are the same as the NPC, they are just similar and inherit from the NPC.
The NPC does not work for bot substitutes either; they are usually level-scripted or area-scripted characters, rarely entering combat short of few, peculiar conditions for some games. Monsters and bots are more independent and are natively combative by default, however unlike the disposable monster, a bot can respawn if the game conditions allow it (and are usually shared with the human player's respawn conditions).
