Jim Lauderdale - "I Met Jesus in a Bar" (Official Video)

- From the album Country Super Hits, Vol. 1, available here: yeproc.11spot.com/jim-lauderd...
"Country Super Hits, Vol. 1", one of two brand new albums that Jim Lauderdale will release simultaneously this year, features the perfect country choruses and fierce honky-tonkin' sound that first garnered him a loyal cult following in the 1990s. His recordings for Warner Bros., Atlantic and RCA earned loads of critical acclaim and an enthusiastic fan base, but working with independent labels has given him the creative freedom to make music that stirs his passions. USA Today says when artists "want to get back to their roots, they often turn toward Jim Lauderdale, a singer-songwriter whose talent for lyrical and melodic twists is practically unparalleled in Nashville." These artists have included Dwight Yoakam, Ralph Stanley, George Strait and Patty Loveless, and the collaborations have resulted in hit songs (with artists like George Strait, Dixie Chicks, Patty Loveless and Mark Chesnutt) and a Grammy for Bluegrass Album of the Year (2002's "Lost in the Lonesome Pines").

I was an avowed atheist when Jesus revealed Himself to me... so if people think Jesus wouldn't meet someone in a bar, they have forgotten how great a wine maker He is... lol.
That's only cos His loaves n fishes weren't worth 3 cheers.
I'm not even religious and I love this wonderful happy song of redemption, because if it's there for you it's a good idea to accept it even if it's not from where you'd expect.
There are a lot of big money media generated and supported country 'stars', but not many real country singers anymore. Mr. Lauderdale is the real stuff, great work.
I was really drunk driving a friends Porsche at about 95 on a city street, I hit the next gear and went sideways, God literally grabbed my shoulder and said "you are going to die if you don't stop this." I drove back to the bar got my car and went home. That was my last drink 1/22/86 almost 33 years ago. And life has been good, every breath, every sunset, is a bonus.
I might be late in response! but I would love to thank you for loving my music ambitions. Have you had the opportunity to attend any of my concerts before?
That's amazing that you turned your situation around. I'm 1 year sober and I spent so many nights crying to this song because I was profoundly lost. Now It brings me tears of joy because I'm free.
@@brianduarte210 keep it up Brian, In sobriety You come to a hard time, I call it Drink or Die or Grow, be tough, just don't drink and come out the other side of it stronger.
@@jimlauderdale2477 I GOT SOoopsber in 1985 and i plan on seeing you at Vine Grove Bluegrass this year.
@randymoa8837 That literaly couldn't happen. So, you are saying some "being" actually physically grabbed you and actualy spoke out loud to you? Impossible and a bit narcissistic. Out of billions of people on earth, plus his "heavenly" duties. He was taking the time to watch you drinking. Then watched your drunk arse get in a car and dui. Then actually used his super powers to suddenly materialize in the car to save YOU. Out of everything he could be doing, saving drowning babies, curing cancer, stopping murders and children being molested, he choose to save some drunk dude in a bar? Come on. What sense does that make? So ridiculous. Have fun with your delusions. You do realize your desperate ploy for attention isn't harmless. There are people on the fence about religion. And when they see these ridiculous, completely fabricated delusions, they dont want to be a part of that craziness. So....good job.
Quite possibly one of the best country songs ever written.
Jimmy is the pride of Statesville, NC...what a talented
songwriter! His songs are covered by some of Country's greats, George Strait, Vince Gill and George Jones.
He's a good singer/performer in his own right...just not mainstream...yet!
The 1st time I heard beautiful song.
I love this .
I got my Late Brother Sean & Late Mother Norma listen to beautiful song.
They loved it as well.
I met Jesus in a hospital bathroom dec 21, 1977; I've been preaching the gospel 32years.
what happened?
It's called DTs Jim Jams... Wait up for the cold touch on your shoulder... No harm.. Long as the crockery isn't flying round the gaf.. Your in cahoots with the spirit world.
Possibly a perfect country & western song.
What?? No mama, no dog, no pickup truck....
Beautiful song .. ❤❤
GREAT SINGER.
Great Song Jim Lauderdale Great Job Singing It
I walked the aisle in a church in the summer of 1969 to confess Jesus Christ before men. Since that time he was constantly worked in me, at present the wheels of evangelism turn in me around the clock. Heaven is going to be sweet.
Also, I want to say that to those who find Jesus WHERE they find Him, that's great. And also, Mr. Lauderdale comes from a very religious, spiritual family and he's not going to be disrespectful. Love your Manuel/"Nudie" suit, Jim, and I think you're beautiful. Love, Vicks
I like that song 👍👏

Back in Feb 14th 2015 I repented and got married and then we both were baptized in Jesus name just like Peter said in Acts 2:38-39 and I was filled with His Spirit and in July 2015 I slipped and had a bottle of wine and a 6pack of beer and my wife was so disappointed in me. The next morning I was so sick at the toilet and then we went to a Christian music festival and on our way home we stopped at our church for a sunday evening revival service and at the end of the message my wife and I walked up to the alter during alter call and that's when I was smelling the fragrance of cedar and I was praising the Lord in worship and a sister told my wife to touch my belly and when she touched me i felt Power from on High flowing in my belly and i received strength and unspeakable joy and i started laughing and weeping and jumping for joy and praising Jesus , that Living water was electricity flowing in me and I didnt want it to stop. It truly was Heavenly Wine and I was delivered from Alcoholism. I haven't went back to to but I love talking about the new wine. PRAISE GOD HALLELUJAH JESUS
WOW GOD BLESS YOU

@@jimlauderdale2477 Jim, my pleasure. As for "giving up?" Hell, I've just started. I'd be honored to join your "squad" as long as I don't have to give you a credit card number. By the way, I've written a few "novelty" country tunes over the years - lyrics only, I'm afraid. For what it's worth - maybe a used wooden nickel or three.... Best regards and thanks again. walked right past him in denver at the Ellie Culkins Opera house. in a bright blue suit.....hell of a guy. very easy going and talented.
I'm guessing you might be kind of young ... this is what country USED to sound like, when it was COUNTRY.
Straight country, I played country for years, steel, guitar, bass, drums, 4 piece no chaser
MrJkeca, I'll be praying for you. Thank you for what you've done for your country.
..for the first time knowing I was not a loan, lol...I know it's alone.
For now, all I can do is try to copy these songs. But what a mentor for the song writing craft to have.

This song was featured on KXCI 91.3 in Tucson
I am 27 but have been into real country music since I was 17. My heroes are Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Jimmie Rodgers, Merle Haggard, Lefty Frizzell and Webb Pierce so don't tell me what country USED to sound like because I know better than most, It is my passion. This song sounds contrived to me, like its trying to be like 'the old songs'. Sickly and syruply sentimental, sounds classic CMT. I could imagine Alan Jackson singing this and I dont mean that as a compliment.
Not to worry Gav - thanks! I think it's really neat the way people can discuss this stuff on youtube. I agree in the hands of a lesser artist this could be really hard to stomach, but to me Lauderdale makes it sound real. Nice that you were willing to give it some thought! Look forward to checking out your channel!
Like Alice said...one of the better songs I have heard in quite some time.....

Best country song of the last 25 years. I'm not even a believer but man stirs me
When I was about 21 I had car problems one nite coming home from some friends house..my car broke down and I had to sleep in the car on the side of the road...in the dark, in the fear of the nite I layed in the back seat scared of what might happen to me and I just felt God calling me in the nite, in my fear...I saw the moon light comeing in the window and I just asked God this question.....what do you want with me....and now it's 46 years later and I have seen his reason for calling me...it was because I was running from him...and I knew I was.....
John prime should have recorded this.
Great J.L saw him in the Station Inn, Nashville 2007. What a night ! ! !
Happy B-Day, Jim.
I wrote to pastor T.L. Jacob of Portland, Oregon that we are the ones who probably wrote this song both in word and deed.
Peace
Me too
It has been a looong time since I heard any music. I am totally deaf as well as legally blind. There's no room on my back for any more crosses.
If you smoked a crack pipe you could meet Zeus you idiot!
You've got me, Gav, and your heroes prove you've got good taste. Sorry that in my enthusiasm I sounded like a know it all. It was hearing it called 'crap' that got me: once you defined your dislike of it more clearly my whole attitude changed. Not to the song, which I still love, but towards you. To me the song seems genuine but it's all just opinion. It's definitely not for A.J. but to me nothing is! I really admire you for swimming gainst the tide of your generation. Thanks!
cool!
Jim reminds so much of a man I called a friend, they looked so much alike. but my friend drank himself to death, i guess Jesus wasn't enough :(

Hey, there--to the people who find inflammatory things/nuances/points-of-view in this song, let me tell you something: y'all take yourselves WAY TOO SERIOUSLY. I'm not going to stoop so low so as to post inflammatory, flaming things back; I'm just going to say that I think SOME country songs DO have a tongue-in-cheek quality; whether that's intended here, I don't know...it may or may not be.
ha...same guitar you play in Secretes of the Pyramids.
Thanks for that Rosie. Sorry if sounded agressive or annoyed at you in my last reply that was not the intention. On reflection I dont think that this is crap and think that I judged it too rashly, I suppose I just mean it's not for me. I've listened to some of his other stuff and really like it. Nice to meet a fellow real country fan anyway. I love what I class as true country music. I play and sing a little, please check my channel out if you get the chance and let me know what you think.
