This! Right here folks, is the true voice of country music. There isn't a Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, , or any of these, so called country gals today, that can hold a candle to this gem of an artist named Patty Loveless. Patty Loveless, Pam Tillis, Martina McBride, etc were the greats of traditional country music in the 80's 90's and early 2000's What is called country today, for the most part, is nothing more than a crappy mix of pop, and rap. The heart and soul of country music died years ago, and I don't see it ever returning. The industry is catering to tweens, teens, and 20 something's. I doubt seriously there are many 30, 40, 50, 60, year old people, or above out there who are spending their money on the crap country music execs are putting out there today. If you want real country, dial back the clock to the days when country was country. Start with Hank and work your way up from there to the 90's. Yep! That's when country was country.
This is one of the best-written songs ever. I saw Patti live at the Springfield Fair in Massachusetts and she left the stage at the end of her performance. I screamed at the top of my lungs for "Nothing but the wheel". After 5 minutes or so, folks were starting to clear out, and all of the sudden, everyone heard Patti (Not on stage) say. "I heard that", then she walked back out on stage and said "This is for the guy back there" and she pointed straight at me and I nearly passed out. She did an extended version and it was "PURE GOLD"
You nailed it. Regional influence still amounts to a lot. Ms Loveless makes any song she sings her own. More than her style, I sense it is actually more her truth. Her back-up musicians sure can kill it. Thanks for your kickstart comment. 🤟
I know no one will believe this, but that big truck's headlights behind her are mine. I accidentally stumbled into the making of this video late one very lonely night coming off of Tehachapi into Mojave on Hwy 58 (Where it actually was - As anyone who has ever stopped at or seen that truckstop knows) . Imagine my surprise to find it in a video later on! Anyway, great song, great lady, and GREAT music - Thanks for memories!
This was one of Patty’s big hits in the early 90’s. It did get lots of air play. You are right though about today’s country music. There’s not authentic country left in it. I sure miss real country music.
30 years ago.... I was 22 at the time and hurting. I am 52 now and hurting. Not many country singers can sing and convey the pain of loss in their voice like she can.
@@michaelyunkelo1757 I understand completely, brother. The hurt takes time to lessen and heal, but it does pass and heal. I live 70 miles from Nashville. There was a time when I went there every chance I got because of the great music. Now no amount of money could make me waste my time listening to those sellouts singing whatever it is....cause it sure ain't country !
Right on Johnny! I had someone try to tell me that country music today was like what they listened to as rock and roll in the 50s. They are old enough to know better, and I think their gears have stripped a few cogs. I like Old Time country music going back as far as the 50s. The 60s and 70s remind me of when I was growing up. However, what's referred to as neoclassical country from the 90s is great stuff. You cannot beat Patty's voice, and especially in this video. None of these new so-called country artists have ever heard of a crying steel guitar. Well sunshine, it ain't country music unless there's a crying steel guitar in the background accompanied by a fiddle!
Man she can sing as a kid i wait by radio waiting for her to come on ,so just maybe i could record it on my cassette, one of the original woman of country music
This is my favourite song from Patty. Loved it from the first time I heard it. Actually reminds me of what I do sometimes driving late at night / early morning....................... I am an old cuss so my growing up as a kid was listening to a battery operated transistor radio. This song reminds me of older generation country music, of the kind my uncle liked, so that is another reason it hits a spot with me. I fell in love with her when she sang Broken Wing. My goodness she held that note at the end for at least a minute. I bought some CDs buy her and that's all I listen to over and over and over. And then one day I told my wife, I just found out Patty Loveless is married.. And she looked at me and said, Well baby so are you. Ha. I always told her that I'd never leave her unless Patty Loveless wanted to marry me. Well Patty's pretty happy with her husband and I'm happy with my wife, so I guess I'll just have to get over her. But man does that woman have a voice. And she's one of the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. If she ever has a concert in my direction you know that I'll be going to see her. But I'll be going home with my wife. Her name is Diane. I call her Princess Diane and I treat her like a princess and she treats me like a king. Been with that woman for 26 years now. Between Patty and my wife I guess I love my wife more. But dang, that Patty is absolutely beautiful.
The truth is this song has a lot of meaning to it it's not just about a love gone wrong it's about holding on to life itself my mother has been stricken with Alzheimer's and dementia and it's a tough pill to swallow and it makes you want to run find something to hold onto besides the the pain the misery that you go throughknowing a loved one that's hurting like thatbut it also makes you realize that life is so precious and you need to take it with everything you have

Patty just knows how to sing. I didn't really appreciate her in my teens, but 25 years later, she knocks me dead. She just gets it, her sense of timing and space is impeccable. Amazing job with slow songs, and even better with the faster stuff. Now one of my favorite artists.

What a song!! By a lovely lady with a lovely voice the best!! PATTY LOVELESS👉🎤
Oh man I just never stop craying
That voice! How can I describe it? Patty at her best!
Patty just knows how to sing. I didn't really appreciate her in my teens, but 25 years later, she knocks me dead. She just gets it, her sense of timing and space is impeccable. Amazing job with slow songs, and even better with the faster stuff. Now one of my favorite artists.
My favorite Country female singer. She brings back a lot of old memories. She is absolutely stunning.
I'm not the meeting type, but I'd marry this woman just to be able to listen to her voice and stare at her face...I'd be pretty content..
Who wouldn't, she's beautiful
You and me both Joe. Back in the 90s I had a crush on her, and I wasn't a teenager either. LOL
Caught this on radio this morning!! Amazing artist & song!!! Real country & a voice that is flawless!!!! 💐
So sweet and beautiful this woman is the woman of country music.love you Patti
God this bring some old memories back a few good and a lot of bad but that’s life I guess
Great song brilliant 👏
I love Patty Loveless.
Beautiful song that fits me to a T. I've been there. Driving all night trying to get my X off my mind. When it's just me and the truckers on the road. 220 North bound into NY state. Just love Patty... Her beautiful pure voice the raw emotion in it. She brings tears to my eyes. Love you Patty!!❤
Been there, divorce cost me 250k - I lived this song, decided in the end, nothing matters, don’t care, tired of trying. I will cut the cheque.
She could sing the phone book and it would sound good.
perhaps my all time favourite
Patty is one of my favorites. I have a stack of her CDs. I bought Peter Wolf's "Sleepless" CD because he sang this song on it. Great CD also. I love both versions. I'm not here to compare the two artists. Just thought somebody here might enjoy something they otherwise might have missed.
Drove a semi for a bit what a great song always my favorite love you miss patty

Great!!!
Love her voice and this song.
Even if she no longer records, I wish she would tour! I miss this music so much!
What a song ! It's a masterpiece of heart break . And Patty delivers it perfectly with her incredible voice .That last scene where she takes her ring off and throws it away really gets to me. Funny thing, Sara Evans has a song about driving away too, but in hers she left him and she comes back. Those are my two favorite songs by these two beautiful ladies. In Nothing But The Wheel, it's hard to believe the guy doesnt want her anymore : she looks so incredibly beautiful; If she left me, I'd die !
love this song
Just awesome, what else can I say.?
so good
