God bless Mr LaRue. I didn't know what I was going to feed the kids for dinner. I just happened to have stolen all the ingredients for this lovely dish.
SCTV is where John Candy demonstrated his wide comedic range. His movie roles were good but were somewhat stereotypical pathetic bumbler roles. He could do so much more. SCTV would not have been the classic it was without him.
It's hard to make me laugh. Most "comedy" leaves me cold, so I am grateful when I come across something that really makes me laugh hard. Thank you for sharing this.
You definitely see JLR's influence on Ricky in this skit, especially when La Rue keeps changing course without reservation. At one point, he is lauding the meal for apparently smelling good. The next, he is clearly put off by the aroma and wonders how he wound up in this predicament, remarking "why don't you people (who I am helping) go get a job or something?" It's analogous to Ricky going from one lie to the next in a bid to evade arrest. Another parallel is Ricky being delusional about his lifestyle; he genuinely believes he is a good samaritan (as does JLR).
I would absolutely have loved to see John Candy make a guest appearance on Hill Street blues playing Kiel Martins brother. Anyone understand the connection and round about reference?
I was thinking the same thing! Maybe the route today would be to go with dry cat food and soften it up in that water a bit. Never mind that it is mostly hog snouts and chicken entrails and not fit for human consumption. A little time at 350 degrees will solve that problem!
I disagree .. Eddie Murphy is one of the funniest and thankfully we still have him.. but I agree that John candy was one of a kind tho.. closest we had to him was Chris Farley (which in my opinion wasn’t as funny as candy) but gone too :(
sad but true. i'm there now. welfare is only just covering the fee my bank charges for the privelege of them taking my money after rent and that's on OW. yay toronto. if it weren't for my kind landlord i would be on the streets and catfood would be a luxury. i'm only 62
Chef Johnnie La Rue .,. Eating grass from a park , cat food in a can and a cigarette butt thrown in for a tasty tidbit… Julia Child went to his Le Cordon Bleu . Academy of cooking with Johnnie La Rue .. the Best 👍
John Candy, a comedy genius in what ever he did!!!!! Made anything FUNNY 🤣🤣🤣 GOD REST HIS SOUL!!!!! I wish he still with us making us laugh!!!!!!!
John Candy you are so missed!!
johnny's shows always start out cheerful and well meaning, and end in chaos. love it.
22 years today, my favorite sketch
One in awhile we get to see a real gem.John Candy is one of them we got a chance to.Thanks for helping to remember him.
1:53 taking a whiff of the cooked cat food priceless. lmao 😆
That Johnny LaRue, what a great man! Always looking out for the "little guy"!
Also, he's not gay.
My favourite character from SCTV. Thanks for posting it. RIP John Candy.
Johnny LaRue is always on top!
God bless Mr LaRue. I didn't know what I was going to feed the kids for dinner. I just happened to have stolen all the ingredients for this lovely dish.
"Don't that look good?" "Uggggh" "This'll build up yer strength, you can go an pick up your welfare checks in time."
Come one eat it you poor slob!
Paw and whiskers!!
Making this for dinner tonight!!! Thanks LaRue, luv u John❤ and thanks for the laughs growing up as a kid in Canada!
"Get some grass from t/park , probly' where you're living these days" = love that line , that & t/cigarette is pure genius !!
Craig Thomson did you abbreviate the word “the” ??
Johnny La Rue was my favorite John Candy character! ❤
It's the snuffed out cigarette butt that really makes the dish come alive, along the the sealed in "flavorful juices" of the cat food.
lol
😋Everyone loves that smoked meat flavor. 🐱🚬
Candy's a classic!!!!!!
It's a shame that SCTV was overshadowed by SNL. For me this was, by far, the better show
totally agree.
Yes sir. Even MAD tv was better. The witch from Oz coffee commercials were awesome.
yes
Absolutely
Kids in the hall was better than snl
Happy Birthday John Candy! RIP funny guy
RIP:Johnny La Rue!
SCTV.....brilliant!
Better than SNL!
I made this for supper, it was delicious
I love John Candy! R.I.P 💗❤️💗❤️😆😄😆😄😆
The best of John Candy is Johnny Larue!
Perfect comedy.
SCTV is where John Candy demonstrated his wide comedic range. His movie roles were good but were somewhat stereotypical pathetic bumbler roles. He could do so much more. SCTV would not have been the classic it was without him.
His best movie role was in Volunteers
It's hard to make me laugh. Most "comedy" leaves me cold, so I am grateful when I come across something that really makes me laugh hard. Thank you for sharing this.
They’re all great but the early half hour versions were the best. They would try anything. Absolutely fearless
This cooking show is what’s needed with rising grocery prices. 😆😆😆 And the fact that more people are living on the dole nowadays.
2022 and people are still on the dole, we've come so far.
John Candy...pure comic genuis. still a loss to this day.
Just as relevant today.
Now I see where Tim heidecker got some inspiration for “Tim’s kitchen tips” 😂
Tim is a Hack who couldn't make me laugh unless he put a .45 to his head live on stage.
💀
I love the shine on the cat food can and the skillet.🩷✨ 😺 I also love the name LaRue.🤎
Well as my mother would say you will eat it if you get hungry enough
a classic
Tabby surprise and making Catherine OHara eat it is classic.
Catherine has said in interviews that she has a thing for cat food, but what brand?
You poor slob!!
I can't find his school of speed drinking skit. Guess I'll have to upload my copy. ;)
Dining with Larue is hilarious too.
@@Henry-W-Schlemmer Found it, thanks anyway
You can shoplift all this stuff. omglmfao
Beyond epic
Love J LA R too funny way ahead of their time!
This makes me think Ricky from The Trailer Park Boys is patterned off of Johnny La Rue.
You definitely see JLR's influence on Ricky in this skit, especially when La Rue keeps changing course without reservation. At one point, he is lauding the meal for apparently smelling good. hahaha love this r.i.p john candy thanks for the video man much respect \m/
Mmmm.
Cat food and grass with ketchup.
Better than the golden arches!
can't you see Gordon Ramsay making this stuff ? hehhehehehhe
Ive made this dish... and it's, delicious.
I think the "you can shoplift this stuff" suggestion is what Seattle, Portland, Baltimore, etc. are currently advising. Johnny ... ahead of his time.
John Candy your missed.
Holy shit that was awesome🤣🤣🤣
Back then it was funny, now it's ironic
A hoarder's dream dinner. 😱🙀
This is the funniest man ever to have lived!
I say the same for Rodney Dangerfield
I would absolutely have loved to see John Candy make a guest appearance on Hill Street blues playing Kiel Martins brother. Anyone understand the connection and round about reference?
I love the cigarette 🚬
Man over macoroni possibities are bon appetit
There’s some poor people out there
finians rainbow meats!!
Good healthy chemicals lol
that catfood is expensive these days larue.
I was thinking the same thing! Maybe the route today would be to go with dry cat food and soften it up in that water a bit. Never mind that it is mostly hog snouts and chicken entrails and not fit for human consumption. A little time at 350 degrees will solve that problem!
Five finger discount still works, though.
Whats with the drogue chute mark?
I miss this man so much. Kevin Hart is the last comedic actor.
I disagree .. Eddie Murphy is one of the funniest and thankfully we still have him.. but I agree that John candy was one of a kind tho.. closest we had to him was Chris Farley (which in my opinion wasn’t as funny as candy) but gone too :(
That's a beauty, eh!😂
Funny as Hell...
I think he borrowed that recipe from the BEEF'n'BOOZE restaurant.
😂😂😂😂😂
lol
Looooove SCTV but wish they would have omitted the canned laughter.
Thanks gawd for the canned laugh track. I wasn't too sure when to laugh. Thanks audio man.
God do I miss John Candy.
😂💀
Not as good as the tacos Guzman makes down in sinaloa
First guy to make being poor funny
Irrelevant USA informercials before this video
#dougford #conservative #wallstreet styles finest.
Bewaaahahaa
Trump.
... has no relevance here whatsoever
Great tv without the pc bullshit of today.
Super politically incorrect. Cooking for homeless people. Quick, some SJW shut this down! A butch lesbian that hates Trump should be able to do it.
Hey bro. It's all good. Even SJW would concede this skit is tops. SCTV is boss.
I'm not sure who that remark was intended for but there was no need to get testy. Everyone is just trying to enjoy the video.
A P No, they wouldn't concede anything, lol.
Wow you're so edgy against us libtards eh Mr Pickles.
It's satire. No one is trying to cancel satire.
Cooking for the Doug Ford era. ;P
No that would be under that cow wynne....
Albertanator ...and ferret face mcguinty before her
Brutally unfunny
ahh food for liberals and democrats
Wait until you find you that John Candy was a liberal.
Statistically, most people on the dole are living in rural areas in the USA, they are white, and vote Republican. Bet that sticks in your craw, eh?
sad but true. i'm there now. welfare is only just covering the fee my bank charges for the privelege of them taking my money after rent and that's on OW. yay toronto. if it weren't for my kind landlord i would be on the streets and catfood would be a luxury. i'm only 62
Blessings

Julia Child went to his Le Cordon Bleu . Academy of cooking with Johnnie La Rue .. the Best 👍
Remember those huge bottles of ketchup? They weren't big enough for my brother-in-law Wayne. My sister had to buy it by the can.🥫
