As a hardened saab enthusiast whos been working on them for 20 years i can tell you there is something very wrong with that 9-5. 209hp is woeful for that engine. These things solider on past 200k and hold the power way up there unless theres a fault.
Needs a full service with all filters and most importantly fresh plugs that are gapped correctly. The DI cassette is probably the original and very weak aswell.
Also check vaccum lines and that the original dump valve isn’t internally leaking.
Not many people understand or know just how ahead of its time or how powerful the trionic 7 management system was.
As for rust… that is a really really… really bad one.

I very much agree with you, but then again, the BMW came from a mechanic (which also had former tuning). As for the Saab history; who knows?! Bit of an unfair comparison, really.
This episode is definitely starting to channel towards TG/TGT vibes, which is awesome, so we gotta take these cars with a grain of salt. ;)

Or they are WHP figures from the hub dyno (not corrected for drivetrain losses) and the BMW has been previously mapped?
Putting more power through the FWD Saab is not going to be that effective/rewarding compared to how well known those BMWs are for responding to a few mods.

I've got 3 x 9-5 Aeros and whilst I agree they are now of an age where rust is a major issue, I'm yet to be convinced they are worse than many other 20+ year old cars. From what I see the typical 3 series of that age (or even younger) are often noticeably rusty around the bodywork. As another example I see many VAG cars 10 years younger with shameful amounts of rust. My oldest Aero just turned 25 years old 2 days ago (one of the oldest still on the road in the UK) and still pretty solid, the other two are both 2004 and are succumbing to the GM cost cutting and are not fairing so well.

Oooohh, i am getting some serious old-school trio vibes here. Clarkson had said that if anyone was to continue on with The Grand Tour, they had to be the sort of person who could identify a car based on its door mirrors, and these two seem to fit the bill.

Owned many e46's over the years and i absolutely miss my 330ci msport, could drive it flat out everywhere and i could get to work faster than i can now in my current car with more than 100bhp extra, such a great chassis.

As the happy owner of an 07 plate 95 Aero Estate, I bought over 5 years ago, for half what you paid, with no rust (still), fast enough to make me grin (still) I think this video says more about your car buying skills than anything else. £2k for that shed? You could have got a 300bhp, near mint one for that! 😂

With those old 3.0d autos you have to hit kick down or use sport mode as the gearbox learns your driving style and they can be slow if tootled about in.

Absolutely loving the new series! Only thing I would say is that the music in the background of every single clip is super distracting, would perhaps prefer something a little more RAW?? Just seems a little bit much. Love, love, love this channel so hopefully feedback is appreciated. Thanks for keeping us entertained guys!!

I know people eye roll whenever UA-cam content creators fan boy about the E46 but I’m a proud owner of a 2005 330ci and it’s genuinely one of the best all rounders and cars to drive that I have owned, period. Also, showing my age thinking you were calling the car Meg rather than Salem 😂
Plus that M57 engine is a sensation.

Put a 19t turbo on the 9-5 and it can easily reach 310hp. It is just bolt-on.
Of course you also need a ECU remap, larger injector and a healthy fuel pump.

I absolutely love saabs and looking for a 9-3 estate currently, but how did you manage to find the worst 9-5 in the country and pay a enormous 2k for it 🤣 doesn't add up , I walked away from a nice 9-3 estate with 120k for 1.2k in black no rust only reason I want something a bit less millage before I do a full rebuild and upgrade in a couple of years
