Leatherman Surge / Choosing The Right Aftermarket Saw Blade

- Over the years, I have tried a number of aftermarket blades to work with the Leatherman Surge. Of all of the blades I have tried, the Lenox B482T3 blade has worked the best for me. I am going to compare this blade against some Bosch blades to show you why I choose the Lenox.

If I only have one Leatherman to choose from, it’s the Surge. Yeah, it’s a little heavy but it’s so capable.
You can cut an old T-shank blade and use it as a shim in the Leatherman Surge to remove the play. Keep up your excellent work!

I've duct taped a flattened 3 inch section of plastic straw to my Surge to hold an extra Bosch saw blade 👍

That package opener should be up front with the main tools on every leatherman. Opening boxes now is what opening can's was 50 years ago...Great video!

Aside from certain gems like the Skil's The Ugly pruning blade and some others. I naturally discovered these same blades and use them myself. I still hope that one day Freud will expand it's product line and make jigsaw blades. I only know about their Sawzall blades. The Diablo line of blades and router bits have been some of the best. I would recommend adding the Bosch T101 AOF blade to your Surge blade kit. Having a scroll blade with fairly straight teeth should come in handy for intricate cuts. Many of which you would want to perform by hand anyway.

The Bosch T101 B works decent, but I really like the Lenox blades.

I wish lenox would make a small, t-shank version of their jab saw. Lenox makes an awesome folding JabSaw, but it's still got a hefty handle.
Sometimes, you just need a small jab saw to fix shoddy receptacle cutouts.

I'm debating between a Surge and a Wave. I like the outside scissors but generally have a Victorinox compact nearby for scissors. How would you compare the Lennox blade on the surge to the stock Wave saw?
I wish when you tested the other blades, you had included the blade that comes with the surge, so we could compare it to the others.

Do you still have any of those Lennox blades on hand to get a thickness measurement? Wondering if they'll work in the ST300 EOD style t shank holder.
Is there other tools besides a saw or file that would fit in a surge? I am unsure I would use either (saw or file) regularly and would be wiling to find something else that has a T shank that would work with a surge.
You have not reviewed the Sidekick. I have been watching all your videos and got hooked. I've bought 7 Leatherman's in the last week and 6 more are on the way.

Do you think there's a way of modding such a saw blade so it fits into the t-shank holder without wobble? I was thinking of maybe gluing a piece of sheet metal (aluminum?) to the blade just to add some thickness and drill the hole out if needed
Wrap a small length of electrical tape around the shank. That'll get rid of any wobble.
These Lenox blades appear to be out of stock everywhere, maybe discontinued? Can you recommend a decent alternative?

I use those Bosch 101 reverse cutting blades on my jigsaw, they are so good because they don't pull sawdust up and cover up your line. I buy them in 100 bulk packs. They are terrible for this though.

Hi I written to you before and asked you for your opinion on which Leatherman I should upgrade to from the original wave, that I've had for 20 years I don't even know. And you said your suggestion would be the surge so I went ahead and purchased that. I just had one more question if you don't mind do you know of any quality aftermarket main blades with good steel that I could replace the stock blade with? And did you know if the charge sv20 blade would fit on the surge?
The Charge blade can be installed in the Surge, but obviously it is a bit shorter. There used to be an aftermarket blade available for the Surge, but they got into litigation with Leatherman and were forced to stop selling as I understand it. Right no there is no option for an aftermarket replacement blade that I am aware of.
I bought the 5 pack of the Lenox blade (#1991479) for the Surge. I haven’t take the blade out of the packaging yet, buy when I hold it up to the Surge, it looks like the blade is too long and will not allow me to close the Leatherman.
Can someone please tell me where I can find replacement blades for a leathermen? Can be non specific just don't know where to find blades and I need a new one on my oht....maybe Damascus one if possible?? I've seen some people with it and it looks sweet.....thanks in advance

Need advice - I can only use right hand/arm. Any recommendations for a multitool for a one-handed guy? Looking at a Leatherman OTH. Any recommendations appreciated.
One of the few times I will recommend it, but I think either the FREE P2 or P4 is the right fit for you. They are true one handed tools. I feel like the P4 will be much better than the OHT.
How is that "Super Surge" (one-off custom) working for you Ben? That was a great series of vids watching you customize your Surge.
It’s working pretty awesome. I have used the cable cutter a couple of different times on the job site this month. I love having my drivers on the same side. Package opener has been a dream, I find I use that quite a bit. I may try to integrate a box opener to keep from using my knife blade as often. All in all, I have been pretty happy with it and how I chose to set it up. I may try to tackle another one soon. Lotta hand work went into getting the tolerances right, but I’m pretty happy with it. Wish Leatherman would make some factory additions to the Wave/Charge/Surge/Rebar/SuperTool 300. There is some potential there for a lot of useful implements.

link to 3 pack is different model 4-1/2" it will stick up 1/2" in XL Molle case a 4" blade fits perfect but hard to find.. They make a 3-5/8" laminate? that is similar ?
Those are the versions I use for my Surge. I haven’t tried the model that you referenced. Is there any chance that you have a link to it?

Just wondering if you could give me some advice I have an old wave that I use pretty much everyday and I'm looking to pick up a new multi-tool. Would I be correct to assume from your videos that if you had one multi-tool to purchase you would purchase the surge?
You are correct. The downside for a lot of people is that the Surge is heavier and bulkier. That being said, I have pretty large hands, so the Surge just suits me better.

Damn those Bosch blades look like a pain to use.
They have a tendency to snag once in a while.
Very informative but I am worried about your financial well being. You’re cutting wood like it is going out of style. Did you have to mortgage your house for that 2x2?
All these small blades should have a pull cut bias as none of them are really thick enough and nether the handles suitable for a primary push cut. Looking at pull saws with inline straight handles that are close cousins of these geometries the pull cut is far more efficient and only relies on the tensile strength of the blade.
Is there one that you find works better than others?
@@txtoolcrib there are a couple of bosch that have a nice soft push start then bite like hell on the pull. I have put a couple of wooden handles on them to use in the shop. I'll dig out the codes.
I would have quit with that third blade after like 10 seconds and threw it in the trash
You should wear gloves. The video was useful. Keep it up the good content.
I generally don't wear gloves unless it is really hot or really cold. I just am not productive at all wearing gloves.
Gloves are a last resort for me.
Spend your life doing manual work and your hands are basically just scar tissue which is almost the same as gloves right? 😆

Um can tell that you don’t use Japanese saws much. You have to use a different technique with pull saws. Yes it would probably be best for you to stick to a straight tooth blade. If you are used to a draw cut blade and have the technique down you can cut about twice as fast than you can cut with a straight tooth blade.
Honestly can’t say I’ve ever used a multitool saw except for using the back edge to strike a firesteel. Can’t think of any realistic for a tiny multitool saw
I have on many occasions when I needed to repair something while visiting friends and family and didn't have my tools with me. Super handy to have a capable saw with you.

i died inside a litthe seeing 2 guys sawing a piece of wood with a saw so bad that when they pushed, the handle almost touched the tip.
my Victorinox Swisstool screamed from its holster but in my country you are not allowed to carry any type of blade, at any lenght.
i owned a Surge and the wood saw was one of the very few good tools in it. screwdrivers, serrated blade and scissors were pure crap. i repaired it as i could and gave it away to my brother. im not a Leatherman hater, my Squirt PS4 is good.
