How can the design diaphragm force and design shear force be different for the roof of the steel building? The diaphragm design force is 394 kips and and story shear is 231 kips. But the roof diaphragm is only acted on by the story below, so where are the extra 163 kips that are acting on the diaphragm coming from?
Per "higher mode effect", professor are you referring to the higher modes (with small participation factor and modal mass) or the higher modal period (1st mode typ)? Thanks!!!

Hi Ibrahim, I'm not sure what you are asking. I don't think I said in the video that the vertical distribution is not real. Did I? If I did I apologize. It's all very real.
As a mechanical engineer, this video explained to me what took over 10 hours of research. Thank you very much!
Why do we put extra force on top to account for higher modes? why at top specifically?
Well done sir 👏👍
Keep it up
What should we do if anoying Fp(minimum) calculates 7-8 times over Fp ?
so great explenation....ı hope to see your next videos on pushover and time history analaysis...
I'm working on the pushover right now. It should be published in the next month or so.

is your accompanying book available for the public as well?

What an elaborate lecture, you couldn’t have done it better. Well done Sir🙏🙏🙏🙏
I request for an entire set of notes, how may I get them please.
Now I am sure that you can survive the first wave of zombie dirk......
Sir please do notes, graph, I am confused here 37:00

Hi Darth, By "higher modes" I am referring to the 2nd, 3rd, 4th modes, etc. As you stated, the ones with smaller modal mass participation.

Hi Ryan, The 394 kips is the minimum diaphragm force required by the code for this case, regardless of the actual force calculated.

Thank you so much for this clear description of Diaph. force analysis!!
You're welcome!
