      Whats kinda freaky is i have hypermobility and my arm lays back at about 190 degrees and it scares me to death. Probably gonna have to do a shitton of warmups so i don't hurt another muscle in my body.

    Dan I really appreciate your teaching style..
    These videos are short and sweet. I was at a throwing and hitting lesson just before I saw this, and I was feeling out the "hard follow-through" probably in the last 15-20 throws or my session..So coming home and seeing this was a great encouragement. I had been previously working a lot on keeping that lead shoulder high, so again it was nice to see this was mentioned.
    I can easily do some video reviews for myself to work on the other stuff....
    Biggest thing is that I am 40, and have played for a long time, but as a guy who never played for a paid coach, I am getting the time now to really go into my swing and motion to feel it out and improve. I have never been a super hard thrower, but I have great breaking stuff and a tough knuckleball. I am seeing if I can get to 70 on the FB by next spring.
    Thanks again, and the next time you want a baseball glove broken-in, or worked on, just send it to me....it's on me! Thanks!

    Hi Dan. How important is it for young pitchers to do some light band work? My son is a tall, lanky lefty pitcher (12 yrs). Hasn't hit puberty yet and has always thrown slower than the average size players but always had very good control and movement. His mechanics are generally good for his age.

    • @DanBlewett
      @DanBlewett  4 роки тому +1

      at his age, strength training with a good trainer is the best thing he can for both his arm and body. Arm care is strength training and strength training is arm care at that age. For the time and boredom involved in doing bands, strength training is vastly better bang for the buck.

      I use the same philosophy with my pitchers: to throw hard late instead of early. That's a really big issue I see with the alot of kids from high school down.

    Hey Dan, great info. Instead of weight training, what would you recommend for 8U/9U pitchers? Developing core and balance, or strength and mobility in hips and legs?

    • @DanBlewett
      @DanBlewett  3 роки тому +2

      they should just play baseball and other sports. They should not be doing strength training at that age. Waste of time, unnecessary, and will burn them out sooner in their careers

    Hey coach, so I’m almost 16 and I top out at like 69-72. I’ve been getting in the gym a good amount for the last year, and I was wondering if it is too late for me to start a program like this and go high d1? I’m still only a month into my sophomore year of high school. Thank you, loved the video!

      high D1? Throwing 69-72? Do some research for yourself about what high D1 recruits look like at age 16.

      Brayden - I might have thrown a fastball maybe just a tad bit harder than 69-72 in high school at 5'5", 150-165 in Upstate New York 20 years ago. I played ball for a D2 JUCO school, SUNY Dutchess as a "mop up" reliever, bullpen catcher, utility infielder, pinch runner/hitter. If you love the game, there is a school for you. I joined the Marines after that and had some different kind of fun.

    Does going "UPHILL" apply to a 1)sidearm pitcher 2) Position players that want to throw harder?

    • @DanBlewett
      @DanBlewett  4 роки тому

      1 - for the most part still less, but sidearmers use their front side less and rotate more. So thinking uphill is still good for weight shift, not as useful for front side.
      2. Yes. When throwing over the top

      @@DanBlewett You’re and amazing teacher. Most people charge for the information you’re giving. That video where you talk about drills that work and don’t really shed some light. Also the drill where you put your lead leg behind your knee is something I implement in my training daily. It really gave me that muscle memory to perform that drive before kicking off the front foot. That was one of the most crucial drills in my mechanics to reaching velocities I never thought possible. I have you thank for that. 🤙

    In the weight room the fundamentals are squats, bench, and dead lifts. If you're new to strength training and your trainer is not focusing on learning those lifts then you need a new strength coach.

    • @DanBlewett
      @DanBlewett  4 роки тому +7

      Variations of those perhaps, but those exact exercises? No. A good trainer forces exercises to fit people, not people to exercises. Choose the lifts that best fit them.
      Not everyone is cut out to deadlift, some people don't have anatomy that lets them perform certain squat variations safely, and push ups are a much better foundational pushing exercise than bench press. No reason to bench press when you can't do good push ups first.
      When you work with kids for a living--like I have--you throw blanket rules like yours out the window. Fit the exercise to the person.

    That first dude front the Nationals is a hot mess. He's too erect to benefit from the straightening of his lead foot. His hips are not spinning and he's losing power. Koufax is a better example.

    • @DanBlewett
      @DanBlewett  4 роки тому

      Koufax is an awful example of the front leg straightening, mostly because his didn't straighten. Not sure what you're talking about.
