I have encountered that at times as well, this may help out, it seems to be the solution that is working for quite a few people: In Project Settings > Master Settings > Render, change your cache format. Cineform seems to work well. I managed to get things working pretty well for myself by rebooting again without changing the cache format; but your mileage may vary there. DaVinci Resolve 18.0.1 has released since I originally commented. It has a cache fix, which appears to have resolved the media offline for me, so you may want to update.
Hm, that seems like you could probably get the best jump in performance if you upgrade your graphics card. Other than that, getting a bit more RAM would help, but I think that is probably secondary to a faster GPU.
Have you tried posting on the official Resolve forum? If you explain the issue you are having BMD is very good at responding to these kinds of issues. In my case, the first 18 beta version kept crashing anytime I hovered my mouse over an effect (to preview it), added an effect in Color page and tried to play it, or created a Fusion clip. They found the problem was related to my Intel integrated graphics, gave me a temporary fix (rolling back my graphics driver to a specific version) and then fixed it permanently in the second beta version. No more crashing problems since then.
I just updated last night and now all of my fusion compositions are now offline and I'm not sure what to do
