I can remember listening to 10 meters in the 80s. Usually band QRN on 10 meters back then was virtually non existent. One morning I was listening to 10 meters looking for DX during a sunspot solar max period, when suddenly a wideband low level hissing noise appeared all over the band. After a few minutes this hissing noise increased in signal strength to become a very high signal strength hissing noise for a period of around 5 minutes or so. I was absolutely stunned by this noise, and then realized I was listening to a solar flare emission. Incidentally I have also heard a similar solar flare noise emission on 6 meters, at around that same period during the 80s. So look out for that during the next sunspot max cycle. When you hear it yourself using your rig and your antenna, it is quite an experience!

Thanks for a really nice video on the 10 meter band. I'm in the process of setting up a station for 10 meters so it will be ready when the solar cycle improves. I also have an Antron A-99 but I'm not clear on how to get it to work on 10 meters. Perhaps, if you have time, you could do a video on how you were able to get yours to tune to the 10 meter band. 73, KG2RU (Florida, USA)

you need to angle the bottom radial to tune a boomerang antenna

Coming from a ham radio operator that hasn't done very much on DX activity on 10 Meters I really enjoyed your video thank you so much for posting. KC9QVE AMATEUR EXTRA Marion,Indiana

By convention SSB on the 10 meter band is in USB mode only.

john griffin a lot of Spanish speaking stations use LSB John but yes that’s why I was on USB on the video. Thanks for the comment.

@@RadioOddities It causes me to wonder whether the operators that you speak of on 10 meter LSB are licensed. The CBers on 11 meters are known to encroach illegally on the nearby ham band. I’ll have to try listening myself but propagation is lousy right now as you know. Nice video mate. 73.

I like the radio ..which is made under alot of names -
As a ham and cb sidebander radio is great for going from one to another fast ! Tho not all American hams share my enthusiasm on that lol
I'm general class but still love 10 as the challenge and different modes including FM on the upper end is cool .
I see the video is only 9 month old ..so you see were slowly rising back up the solar cycle and things will get more interesting again .
      Thanks for sharing N3AFA

Interesting vid. Now subscribed. Never used 10m. Interested how you was working DX at solar maximum. What was your callsign then as the M7 surely is only 12months or so old? 73

Ham Radio VLOG good spot, my Callsign used to be M6XII but there was an issue with OFCOM which meant I had to release the call sign and as all the M6’s were exhausted I had to move on to M7 and kept my XII suffix!

M7 hmmm!! 10watts max then? so why do you have a kl 203 (100w) linear amplifier on the shelf and switch on? as a M7 you cant legally run with it. Explain!!! also Did you know that the Alinco dx-10/DR-135UK is NOT! a UK Foundation licence compliant radio, see terms of licence (iR 2028), unless anyone knows different, i asked Alinco directly.
