I got a 10m FM rig from a SK estate for $10.00. I’ve only been licensed for a few years and never played around on 10m FM before. I hooked the radio up and dialed in 29.600 simplex and sent out a CQ with all 10watts it would produce. First contact took 2 calls and came back from Texas. My QTH is British Columbia. Wasn’t expecting that.
Great to hear! Yes, lot of surprises on that band and mode, sometimes you get nothing and sometimes by putting out a call you might be surprised by a strong signal coming back. And if you can just leave your radio on and monitor you will usually hear something once in a while. 73 and have fun with radio!
Well thank you very much! I also enjoy and watch your videos, always fun and informational. Thank you for what you do also. Great job, keep it up and 73...Larry
Fantastic video! Today I had my first experience with FM mode DX on 10 meters. It included an excellent QSO from my QTH (Sutherlin, Oregon) to Watha, North Carolina -- nearly 2,500 miles away! Some of the time we sounded like we were just across town instead of on opposite sides of the country -- amazing! 📻🗼🔊 🗼📻🎧 😃
Ham radios are so cool 😎. Still hoping to do a video or something with you when I get back. Ended back to Canada one more time. Be back by May this year locally
Love it! Yep, 10m AM/FM is a blast. I remember back in the ‘80s when I was living in the Chicago area, I was on my way home from work at about 3:45 pm or so, and called CQ on a 10m simplex frequency. Much to my surprise, a JA station immediately answered me; he was full quieting into my mobile station, and I was likewise full quieting there. I think I was running about 35W or so, with a Clear Channel rig into probably a K-40 or Wilson 1000 antenna. I also enjoyed many AM contacts as well years ago, mostly from a fixed station. I really need to get back on 10m ‘phone. 73
Thank you once again Larry!! You're still awesome!! (I'll definitely check out 10M FM...after decades of hamming, finally have an interest [after watching this video]. 😎
I like working AM and FM simplex from time to time. Got a Chameleon Lite Tactical Dipole 160-6m that I use. That antenna is resonate on the 10m band. On 29.600, I get a SWR of 1.1:1 running 100w. Worked France, Jamaica and Mexico on FM simplex. AM is a bit of a challenge to work with 25w on the IC-7300, but early in the morning one might catch some European contacts in the AM portion of the band. The best contact I got while working AM was to Italy from my QTH here in Tennessee.
Hi my friend! ☺️. Great to see you. 10m FM is very fun to do. There's a good 10m repeater in Canada...Ontario I think. It's 29.640 mhz with 100 hz tone. I hope you and your family are doing well. Been busy here but doing good. 73 my friend
10m FM is used fairly often here in Australia. It's great fun 👍 Fyi, folks can get involved in 10m FM for a cheap price, with a Radioddity CB-500 radio, which is a low cost but great performing radio thst has a 10m mode, with repeater offsets and CTCSS. 73
10 Meter FM has been really hopping as of late. It seems like it is open on most days, just not heavily utilized. I worked XE2LVM in Mexico, and also Arizona, from here in Kentucky, all on 29.600. My radio is a President Ronald 10 meter transceiver, running about 40 Watts into a Wilson 2000 on the trunk of my Camry. I usually have my police scanner on, monitoring 29.600 during the daytime, when I am at home. If you hear me calling on 29.600 FM, give me a shout! 73, DE KU4UV
Not heard any FM on 10. I keep listening to it, as it used to be good. In the past. Here in UK. Have worked JA and Israel 59plus both ways with 4watts of FM. So far little heard apart from CW and FT8.
20 years ago I could work us repeaters on 10 meters from europe, but these days with all the noise comming from those stupid solar panels it is impossible
At the beginning of this year's DX season, I was able to send out a CQ and communicate with a station in New York during my usual commute. Well, we are monitoring 29.30MHz (calling frequency in JA). the following frequencies are illegal in Japan. 29.31-29.50MHz. 73 de JG6DMH
Really enjoyed this video Sir, just learning more about the hobby. Really like your Icom IC-7300, do you feel you will ever upgrade to the IC9700 or does the 7300 meet your expectations. Feedback would be appreciated.
Well thank you very much. For now I am very happy with the 7300 so I don't plan on changing anytime soon since it does everything I want it to and is very easy to navigate and do what I want quicky if I need to change settings. It is also very easy to move around if need be. I love it so far.
@@craigcarroll9888 To tell you the truth, I have not had any experience with any of the verticals that are out there these days so can't really tell you what would be the best for your situation, most verticals do work very well for DX but usually require a good ground radial system. Sorry I can not help you more, I would have to look into them more I guess. Best of luck and hope you come up with a good antenna system for your station!

Thanks for the reminder. It's been a while since I played on 10 FM.
10m FM surprised me. I was able to get a confirmed contact from England to Northern Virginia a few weeks ago. 59 both ways. 100 watts and a wire.
Thankyou Larry, I enjoyed your video. 73s KJ4PFC
Great video Larry, 10 Meter FM is a blast looks like it’s going to be a good cycle, 10 meters is happy!
Don’t forget 29.650 Switzerland and 29.690 Germany
Those are repeater inputs here in the states.

It is starting to open up again now in the fall so things ar looking good!

WOW! that was a good information I'm glad I clicked on it.
I never use FM on HF. It's never occurred to me to try it. I'll have a listen.
