I recently installed one of these radios in my truck and I have been very impressed with it. Just using a browning 49 inch whip trimmed down to 45 in for 10m. Built a inverted V Dipole antenna prior to purchasing the QT60. How ever in the mean time I have an extra Uniden 510 XL radio I purchased years ago and hooked it up to the Diploe I made. Works great even on that older radio. The antenna was fun to build and I used part that where laying around the house. Took some trimming but got the reception trimmed of 0.05 on the SWR... Believe it or not on a good skip day, I'm hearing a lot down south ( I'm in Penna on a ridge). It's totally fun. Am setting up a few more ideas with a man pack with 12 V battery Lithium Sulfur batteries (weigh less then a 16 oz's ) into a pack along with small solar charger for when I do my adventure rides. Am getting to the point that I do not want to take a cell phone to stop being tracked, Yes I've a few hand unlocked held's I take along with a tactical antenna on it to which I can attach to the dipole also.. It is totally fun to set up and use when out and about. I camp mostly as high as I can get in the forests I go to. It's exciting to listen in the evening while sitting around a campfire should you want to do so and take in "all" the world conversations on a good night of skip. Great radios. I would recommend getting the heat transfer paste re Done on the heatsink and the audio chip heatsink. As the factory blob in the middle is worthless. And that why they get hot especially on fm. Also have the meter calibrated as factory standard they stop at 9 and don't read above 9. And finally have the squelch properly set up. As from factory set up it blocks low signals with the noise. Properly set it allows signal to come through but stops the noise level breaking through. Then a great radio becomes an amazing radio. My first rig was a 10m rig. A good old radio shack htx 10. Does everything that your one does except ctss and only 25 watts of power. I had it mounted in the car for years using a chopped down cb antenna. Lots of dx contacts during the summer months. It’s totally worth getting a 10m rig, lots of fun mobile and handy in the shack when hooked up to its own antenna.
Wow! After the white wire adjustment and pin 2 and 3 was changed from 1 and 2, this radio put out nice with no tinkering with power or software or firmware or anything. Nothing needs to he done, but use. I don't like the mic that comes with it, because of the build or the keys to change channels. It's just in the way. Have a 4 pin conversion cable on the way and I'll use my trusty old Astatic. You can use your ranger or those new Cobra mics are pretty nice
Wow! 12 meters, 11 meters, citizen's band, 10 meters, and a few extra frequencies all on a compact transceiver! I had had a Cobra 148GTL in all my vehicles. It was about 40 years old. I even had the radio before I could drive and had it on a car battery with a wire for an antenna. Last year, the ancient 148GTL died beyond repair and I wept. I buried it on my property next to fallen animal companions. After a year and 10 months of morning, I find myself ready to find a different radio. The Cobra 148GTL was heavily modified by myself and repaired many times, by myself as well. It seems that the Anytone AT-5555NII may be a good contender for continuing my radio hobby. The Cobra was modified to function from 24.5Mhz to 29.3Mhz. Maybe I can do similar with this radio.
I want to get into other than CB radio, but this talk is way over my head and understanding at this point in time. I am currently studying the frequencies of all the bands. I just got this radio and love it. Me and a fellow ham (VE7WJN, whom you'll probably remember from your FT8 CQ a few days back) helped me to give this a test. Sounds great on all modes! Cheers! -Wes VE7WDM

You mentioned this radio does not have any connections to connect to a computer or laptop to use WSJTX, but you can use a laptop microphone and a headphone. Couple the headphone to the radio mic, and the laptop mic next to the radio speaker. Then enable VOX mode on the radio. PRO: Works great with any radio/no connections or adapters needed. Con: must have a silent environment to prevent unintentional transmissions.
I have a quad 6. It works really well, it's currently hooked up to an old Itron 27MHz multi stage aerial which works great right across 10 & 11m. I have had great audio reports come back to me. It isn't without its quirks but once you're aware of how it works it's easy enough to set up how you want. I also don't have CTCSS so accessing some of the repeaters is problematic. The user manual is somewhat useless though. Anyways great video as per usual Hayden and I'll keep an ear out for you in VK3. Cheers
Great rigs but I get what you mean about the plug. But still love it cheers for the show. Please keep the information coming very interesting. Alan in England CT .48.70 all the 73 .🇬🇧👍
Great review Hayden! 10m has been seeing some great propagation stateside, and for US hams this is a great radio to buy if you're a technician who wants to hop on the 10m phone allocation. 73!
This was my first HF Radio and man did I have some good times on it. I keep it in the car so if I want to do some quick 10 meter I just put up my 10 meter shark stick and I'm on the air in like 5 mins
I have the Version 1 of this radio, Ver 1 & 2 are also sold under the French CRC brand. Ver1early units - generally did not have the CTCSS/DCS circuit board, simply sourced one from a UK CB shop & plugged it in, presto - it works perfectly! RF Power on the Version 1 series is factory lower compared to Version 2. The radio you buy today will be a Ver 2. You can program via computer, different frequency channel allotments and set them for one of the designated 'bands' @ 40 max channels per band, for example, I've programmed UK CB channels on one band, Aussie and PNG 27Mhz Marine channels on another, kept one of the bands for the FCC/AUS/EU 40ch allotment, and another set for the New Zealand 26Mhz CBRS. One band I've kept at 26.000Mhz for stuff about purpose, study. Per this video, CB users will also appreciate the CTCSS/DCS function vis reason - whilst squelch and ASQ are all fine and dandy, some CB users might appreciate that ability to program a HOME channel, that won't be disturbed by other radio users breaking through squelch and waking the family and farm at 3am:-) You achieve that quite home life - by activating CTCSS/DCS, (works on FM mode only, by design) - choose one of those CTCSS/DCS Codes and set same for both TX and RX (transmit & receive) on ALL radios your family network will use. Choose then - an UNALLOCATED CB channel:- this means *NOT* Channel 09 (Emergency), Channel 11 (AM/FM Call Ch - Pacific), Channel 19 (US Road Channel), Channel 35 (SSB/LSB Call Channel Earth), nor Channel 38 (US/Nth America SSB/LSB Call Channel). So do avoid sitting on SSB used channels, [and of course, stay off all ham bands, unless you've gained that license]. Outcome; even with the squelch OFF, on your chosen CTCSS/DCS channel of choice, the radios will stay dead silent on that channel alone, no matter how strong a passing signal might be on it, or regardless the received modes of that transmission, *unless* it receives that exact Code you've chosen, only then - will it open up for you to hear the inbound transmission! Increasing numbers of CB's with FM mode will have CTCSS/DCS - even FCC approved items, but do check, as this function is worth having for family life. Note that others not using CTCSS/DCS - will always hear your transmission, as CTCSS/DCS is not radio encryption, CTCSS/DCS simply cuts them out for you. Therefore, keep sensitive personal information off air.
Thanks for the video Hayden.. Great radios (ive had an earlier version and have a sy73 (quad-6) currently), but i do wonder why they stick with the large form-factor, given the actual PCB size ?.. Plenty of features for the money without being as overloaded as some of our other HF rigs (i also have ft 891 and 710aess)
An amateur radio operator brought a Yaesu FT-710aess to me March 2023. He wanted me to check it out for him. He was not getting it to transmit, according to him. I, not being an amateur radio operator, tested the radio on a dummy load. I found nothing wrong with it. However, the owner has never returned for it. The telephone number is disconnected, the email goes unanswered. I have been thinking of taking it out of the box and playing with it. I just feel guilty because it is not mine. There is no rule against listening to it.
So at first I was thinking this would be a throwback to the Magnum 257 & Radio Shack HTX-10. But this seems so much more robust and inclusive. Definitely liking the nearly 6 MHz of AM/FM/SSB flexibility!
Good video, thanks! Btw, there are some simplex repeaters from JA on the low end of 29Mhz too. 29.020, 29.050, 29070, 29.090 and 29.110FM with CTCSS tone of 88.5Hz ( and tons more on 11m 😂) 73
If you're considering second-hand, then note the older 5555s don't have CTCSS by default, so always ask. There is an upgrade board but it's rare as hens teeth now. (I have the 6666 with the same CTCSS board.)
I have the first version (looks like the same, but not the same hardware and USB dataport on mine) The one you got there also have very good noise filters.
I have the earlier version like you. Used at home when I was a tech. Now it's mounted in my truck. (Cheaper to get stolen than my ft891). On a 2/70/10/6m quad band mobile antenna I've worked ZL, CO, IT, JP, S.A.... from Texas while driving. I lay the mic on my thigh & cruise up & down 28.3-28.55 with the up/dn buttons until I hear someone. 73's K5MWA.
That data port is actually just a standard serial port configured into a miniUSB jack. It is used for some mild changing of perimeters. It is not a data communications port. You can put in your callsign on the display, which is fun, if you have one. Though, I am not an amateur radio operator, with a 259 centimetre, vertical whip antenna, (102 inches for Texans and American😁) on the back of an old Jeep, I was able to communicate with Uruguay. Of course, this was on 35 USB. I can not use 10 metres, legally. I am not an amateur radio operator.
Hi Hayden. Just having another look at the band mod my dealer shows holding menu & EMG while turning on. Then can pick band 1 or 2. Have you tried this? Thanks Steve.
Interesting specs on this rig. 60 watts PEP output on SSB and AM, and if this is a DSB AM rig, that works out to about 15 watts of unmodulated carrier. Guess they are trying to make you think that it is more than it is.
I tried it on 11 meters & its ok there & it will go down to 26000 MHz so it will cover the New Zealand frequencies. What I not like about it is the mic connector.
1:23 the white wire looks like a jumper wire. Old ham radios have a lot of wires on the circuit board (even the high end ones). It is not necessary a bad thing, it just increases cost while manufacturing.
Almost £400 in the UK on Amazon. For this region, the ft891 is surely a better choice, more power and full HF coverage. That's not to say I don't think this radio is any good, thanks for the detailed review as always!
Another great video. Thank you. Yeah... I don’t like the hammers that scoff at cb. Sooo many people on the road have cb’s. If the apocalypse does happen you’re gonna wanna know what’s going on everywhere especially when repeaters are gone. It’s always been peculiar to me that human nature always wants to hold something over someone else.
Hams DO scoff at CB. IF you're wondering WHY, I guess you haven't listened to much CB nonsense lately. Hams actually talk about THINGS. When do CB'ers ever talk about anything of value?
@@RollerCam well….to be honest….all I have ever heard with hammies is “yes signal strength is 5 5 I’m from oakefanokie and my name is Jerry” other guy dittos same info. Then they whiskey xray tango everything and end the conversation with 73 73. I’m not being sarcastic but it’s all I hear. Now there’s ft8. Don’t even HAVE to talk. So if bubba is talking to Billy Joe about his wife’s apple pie……I dunno…..is that trash talking really or just good old folks chatting it up Just my 2 shekels. God bless
Most hams don't scoff at CB, because most were CB'ers for years before they got their ham licenses. Many were, or are and have been CB'ers back since the 1980's or earlier. A large amount of hams still own and operate CB radios. The average 2 meter radio that usually utilizes repeaters will easily match most CB radios in coverage even without repeaters when on 146.520 or other simplex frequencies. They're not scoffing at CB radios, but they do scoff and some operators and operating practices, just as they also criticize some of their own operators on nightime 80 meters.
@@joedidit3233 mornin’ Joe. Only gonna add when I have seen and experienced. And I don’t mean to disrespect you. I see you aren’t one of the scoffers. I’m actually a member of 3 ham clubs in Florida. Many of these folk’s sadly do, do this. God bless
This is radio is related to the Radioddity QT60 10/12 Meter Radio. I have the Radioddity QT60 and absolutely love the radio. The Radioddity is 10/12 meter. Cut that white wire, restart the radio and now it is a 10/11/12 meter radio.
Have just bought one. It's a nice radio and has a good receiver but it has various issues. The CW frequency seems to be offset from the actual frequency on the 10mb beacons - it tunes in better with the clarifier but that effects knowing the actual frequency. 12mb seems ok. The first bank - A - does not go below Ch9. It's a nightmare - very time consuming - to program. It does not use a spreadsheet compatible text file (eg .csv) that can be easily set up. There seems to be some twisted logic in the software design rather than keeping it simple and easy to set up and operate. I had to program it with the AT5555N QPS5555N_II 3.0.0 app. Bonus is that it allows programming for 60ch per bank and provides for more menu options. Would love Anytone \ Radioddity to sort out the various SW issues and issue firmware and programming app updates.
There's a new short version that's only 250mm long, not 305mm. It also has extra features. 136-174Mhz FM receiver. Dimmer. SSB TX audio band width control. CTCSS/DCS scan. CW function. Along with others. the new model as the same model code though so you have to seek out the newer.
Mower Junkie just reviewed the Radioddity version of this. The biggest problem is that you'll need an adapter for converting to the RJ-style mike plug. Don't know if anyone makes them. Snipping the white wire and moving the jumper enables 11 meters, receive only, just like the old Siltronix 1011(wink, wink). Very handy to check propagation and 25 MHz WWV.
I have been researching to buy my first radio and I am very interested in this radio and AnyTone Radios at this moment. I saw the CW port in the back, do you have any information on using CW on this radio? Thank you
Its the outstanding radio in a bunch of also rans.. The Noise reduction circuit actually works.. I use mine for Portable static work.. on 10, 11, and 12m Not sure . But guessing some Yaesu Mic"s may work rather well with this radio...My only quip is the function buttons do not have backlight for easy use in darkness.. Overall 8.5/10 73s HS0ZOU..
It covers the high end of lowband it deserves its own spot. 25mhz-30 is always open. With the rite equipment you can reach anywhere at anytime. So.....
Since i see the ahhhem "wire" maybe we'll hear you on the triple nickle. Working on getting my ham ticket. Have fun, i still like the Lincoln ii+ better
New Subscriber here. 👍. Only just found your channel. Thanks for sharing this video. Great advice and content 👌. I, have always loved 10 meters ( since i was licensed in 1996 ) and funnily enough, I was thinking about a " dedicated " 10/11 radio. I run an old ic746 ( which I love) as my main radio, but after watching your video I think i will "Splash out " 😂 . 73 G7VAG. 🏴
Just as it did last fall, the upper HF spectrum has opened up and the world is your oyster, whether you're a ham, freebander, or SWL. You don't need big power either; yesterday I worked two stations from England easily although one ran 10 watts and the other 20.
That Radio looks like more housing than radio. I am sure that radio is worth the price, but I'm not one to stay put in one location. I rather be on the road, but I don't drive and I can't really use a mobile on my scooter. 73 to all!
Noob here I'm thinking of getting into ham what is the minimum licence needed for Australia, I just started looking into this last few days, I used to use CB growing up AM, LSB, and USB dropped out of it in my 20s im now in my 50s, umm what can i use if i go for a Foundation licence? some help would be appreciated
Hey mate check this video out where we cover the entry level licence here - Foundation licence. Get A HAM/Amateur Radio Licence (Australia) ua-cam.com/video/rh0895hGXMU/v-deo.html
I just don’t understand why anyone would buy a dedicated 10m radio. 10m is fun, but it’s not reliably open. Why not just get a general coverage transceiver? You get 10m, plus 160, 80, 40, 60, 20, 17, 15, 12, and 6m. 10m is fun, but it’s so unreliable you wouldn’t want it to be your only band. This radio $260, but a xeigu g90 is $445 (both at radioddity). Sounds like radioddity is pushing these, a lot of “influencers “. On UA-cam have been popping with this rig in recent weeks.
@@HamRadioDX good to know. There are too many of these channels selling bad advice to hams. One guy here in the states (ham radio crash course) is taking a cut off of a 10m rig from an affiliate link and advising new hams to get a $260 rig 10m rig to activate parks for POTA. He posted a video of himself doing this after some of my comments about his ethics triggered him. He activated a park, but his radio was so drifty he had to ride the BFO constantly to make out the received speech. He then went on to call this “normal”. Hysterically, he then switched to the radio you’re looking at here, which was at least stable. The first signal report he got after switching rigs was that the first radio he was using was off frequency. But he continued to promote it.
Hey, I have a TS990S and a FTDX 10 here and guess what? I choose to use my AT-5555Nii on 10m over the big rigs most of the time, because it's a FUN radio to use and it performs remarkably well. It's that simple for me.
@@mostlypostie1 hey listen, that’s great. I just wouldn’t advise new hams to buy a 10m mono band rig in place of a full featured rig. I enjoy 10 m on my Elecraft KX2, my Elecraft, K3, my 817nd, my Icom 7000, and my flex 1500. They’re all great radios, but I find the fun on 10 m doesn’t really depend on the rig. But do you know what’s not fun for a new ham? Wasting almost $300 on a 10 m rig, and then when the band closes (as it does even during solar maximums) having a $300 paper weight instead of putting five or $600 towards a rig I can use on all bands - even as a technician on digital modes or cw. I think that’s just horrible advice. To be clear, this UA-camr is not doing that. But others are, and they have affiliate links to make a buck off people when they buy this rig off of Amazon.
I wish 10m wasn't basically dead, the only thing I hear is FT8 (not that there is anything wrong with that, just not my mode) . I wish we had monthly field day 😄 I guess pota and sota are close. Great video!
Groundwave maybe 20-30 miles. But every spring/summer (regardless of solar cycle) you will be Sporadic E that can carry your signal thousands of miles away
A lot of guys use these as budget CB radios. And they are actually pretty good. You not gonna talk very far with them on 11 meters but this radio does pair nicely with a 4 x 2879 box.
"You not gonna talk very far with them on 11 meters ". What a load of rubbish, I use 11 meters and have confirmed qsl's from all over the world, including Russia and Australia as well as the Middle East and ALL the USA
I have two president Lincolns with that white wire. Some how that wire got broken and the radio suddenly had 10 40 channel banks. Strange thing that white wire.
Ultimately, all of those sorts of radios are predicated around banks of 40 channels and I found them not great for amateur browsing. They don't resolve to enough decimal places for a start.

Great review Hayden! 10m has been seeing some great propagation stateside, and for US hams this is a great radio to buy if you're a technician who wants to hop on the 10m phone allocation. 73!
And it’s only going to get better! Love 10m!
On this day, the 18th of October, 2023, the solar flux index is 144 with 92 sunspots. It should make for fair propagation in 12, 11, 10 metres.
This was my first HF Radio and man did I have some good times on it. I keep it in the car so if I want to do some quick 10 meter I just put up my 10 meter shark stick and I'm on the air in like 5 mins
That's awesome!
Per this video, CB users will also appreciate the CTCSS/DCS function vis reason - whilst squelch and ASQ are all fine and dandy, some CB users might appreciate that ability to program a HOME channel, that won't be disturbed by other radio users breaking through squelch and waking the family and farm at 3am:-)
You achieve that quite home life - by activating CTCSS/DCS, (works on FM mode only, by design) - choose one of those CTCSS/DCS Codes and set same for both TX and RX (transmit & receive) on ALL radios your family network will use.
Yeah, it is a rather large unit... and the heatsink is relatively small, so it's not like that's taking up all the room!
The quad 6 is smaller, does a lot also
I have the CRT SS6900n & SS9900, both great 10/11m radios 12m too on the 9900 55w Ssb 45w UK40Fm 👍
Good video, thanks! Btw, there are some simplex repeaters from JA on the low end of 29Mhz too. 29.020, 29.050, 29070, 29.090 and 29.110FM with CTCSS tone of 88.5Hz ( and tons more on 11m 😂) 73
Oh sweet! I never knew! Japan is really easy from here in VK when the band opens!
What about setting up or being able to work SPLIT???
Nice that it's got 12 meters too!
Nice vid, TNX.
If you're considering second-hand, then note the older 5555s don't have CTCSS by default, so always ask. There is an upgrade board but it's rare as hens teeth now. (I have the 6666 with the same CTCSS board.)
Is that the version 1 and not the “II” version?
@@HamRadioDX yes.
I'll need to add VK7HH to my HamAlert triggers. Maybe someday in this cycle. 😊
Great way to find me on air!
I’ve got the older one. Absolutely love it.
You can customize channels.
Yeah. We know what it is and what happens if you snip it.
Almost £400 in the UK on Amazon. For this region, the ft891 is surely a better choice, more power and full HF coverage. That's not to say I don't think this radio is any good, thanks for the detailed review as always!
Moonraker and Radioworld have them for £200 in the UK
Or looking at it another way, a third the price of an IC-7300, but hardly a third of what you get in the 7300.
Yeah for sure. The FT891 is definitely a step up and will give you plenty more options!
It the UK, it doesn't even step with our w@nky Thatcher channels.
It is still not a fifth of what the IC-7300 is@@leapofshed
I would like a 2M fm, ssb in that form factor.
So to unlock 11-12 m it’s in menu or inside radio
Does anyone know what moving the jumper but not cutting the white cable will do?
So if bubba is talking to Billy Joe about his wife’s apple pie……I dunno…..is that trash talking really or just good old folks chatting it up
Just my 2 shekels.
God bless
Nailed it...That's about what it comes down to! @@RollerCam
It's also identicle to the CRT SS7900 as I have this one radio. I also have the CRT SS990 and the CRT SS600 coing in the post
Does the white wire and jumper have any adverse effects? Or does it JUST open it up MORE?
Really nice looking radio, and yes 10m is picking right up lately.
Thanks for the info, really like the 12 meter, just opened mine and oh darn the wire was accidentally cut and jumper somehow got moved
Good stuff! 👍😂
I have the CRT SS 7900v is this the same, what does the snip and jumper mod change ???
Mower Junkie just reviewed the Radioddity version of this.
The biggest problem is that you'll need an adapter for converting to the RJ-style mike plug. Don't know if anyone makes them.
Snipping the white wire and moving the jumper enables 11 meters, receive only, just like the old Siltronix 1011(wink, wink). Very handy to check propagation and 25 MHz WWV.
No TX on11 meters? What about 12meter?
I'm interested about satellite frequencys. Lmk if your still doing this. Thanks
Overall 8.5/10
73s HS0ZOU..
the radio is blocked and during PTT it displays the message "BATHI" how to unlock it? Radio Anytone 5555N2
It covers the high end of lowband it deserves its own spot. 25mhz-30 is always open. With the rite equipment you can reach anywhere at anytime. So.....
If this radio were used on 11 meters in a mobile setup, would you use a mobile cb antenna?
Stryker being a transceiver,
is also a name of a US military
vehicle, and a hip replacement. 😊
In the US, with the mod, this looks like it would cover 10 meter, CB, and 12 meter.
so AM is regular cb 40 channel 60 watts and FM 40 channel 11 meter and 10 meter ?
Hi guys would this be a first good radio to buy has a beginner? Do I need a license to use this radio please?
What's the power output on AM? It claims 60w, but i find that hard to believe.
What is the wattage output on 11m?
What do you think about the $500 appx price?
Since i see the ahhhem "wire" maybe we'll hear you on the triple nickle. Working on getting my ham ticket. Have fun, i still like the Lincoln ii+ better
I remember when the RCI2950 came out. Had to run out and buy one.
Pop the cover and you are greeted with a series of jumpers for some reason...
No idea what those jumpers did though hey? ;-)
10, 11 and 12 meter. Nice.
Will Anytone void warranty for cutting the white wire ???
the Stryker version 2 has a ctcss board build in, and it will do repeaters. the version 1 stryker doesn't come with a ctcss board.
Didn’t see either the radioddity or this one on Amazon Au, even with those links. They been removed?

New Subscriber here. 👍. Only just found your channel. Thanks for sharing this video. Great advice and content 👌. I, have always loved 10 meters ( since i was licensed in 1996 ) and funnily enough, I was thinking about a " dedicated " 10/11 radio. I run an old ic746 ( which I love) as my main radio, but after watching your video I think i will "Splash out " 😂 . 73 G7VAG. 🏴
Thanks mate, appreciate the sub and your comment! 10 metres is awesome its my 2nd favourite band - only behind 6 metres ;)
Any Tone did a good Job with this radio, I had the AT6666 for years and couldn't fault it.
What is the price range on those items those days?
How many amp power supply does it need Thanks?
At least 15A
Earned my subscription sir, thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Well done video. The only reason I'm not buying this otherwise excellent transceiver is the lack of CW.
I was just looking on eBay and there are Cobra 4 pin round to modular adapters to use on these rigs
Haha, I'm a CW operator. When you said "all the modes" I was waiting for you to verify that it does CW. :-) 73 Mike N4FFF
can anyone elaborate on the white wire . I really do not know .please
It allows 24.715 to 30.105Mhz over 10 bands, if cut. and (J802) jumper shifted. As opposed to 28.000 to 29.700Mhz over 9 bands.

Just as it did last fall, the upper HF spectrum has opened up and the world is your oyster, whether you're a ham, freebander, or SWL. You don't need big power either; yesterday I worked two stations from England easily although one ran 10 watts and the other 20.
Thanks for a great review Hayden. Your friend from Up Yonder KO4HPC 73 :)
Thanks for watching mate!
I recently passed my technicianI exam. K9YFAL. Is the Anytone 5555 the size of a Uniden or Lincoln HR2510 ?
Pretty much the same size as a HR2510. Congrats on passing your Tech too!

@@HamRadioDX mate, thank you very much for it That's precisely what I needed
Does the QT60 have the white wire?
Not sure, I haven't seen inside a QT60, but they look to be the same radio
I just don’t understand why anyone would buy a dedicated 10m radio. 10m is fun, but it’s not reliably open. Why not just get a general coverage transceiver? You get 10m, plus 160, 80, 40, 60, 20, 17, 15, 12, and 6m. 10m is fun, but it’s so unreliable you wouldn’t want it to be your only band. This radio $260, but a xeigu g90 is $445 (both at radioddity). Sounds like radioddity is pushing these, a lot of “influencers “. On UA-cam have been popping with this rig in recent weeks.
I will point out I’ve owned mine for over 6 months and bought myself from Amazon - it isn’t the Radioddity
Once I reached 50, there's no way I could read the screen on that little 20w rig. 😂
Do I need an antenna tuner with this rig?
Only if your antenna is not resonant for the frequencies you wish to use it on.
I wish 10m wasn't basically dead, the only thing I hear is FT8 (not that there is anything wrong with that, just not my mode) . I wish we had monthly field day 😄 I guess pota and sota are close. Great video!
What kind of range would you normally get without this solar cycle. I realize range is determined by many things.
Groundwave maybe 20-30 miles.
But every spring/summer (regardless of solar cycle) you will be Sporadic E that can carry your signal thousands of miles away
@@HamRadioDX That's it? I can get 20 to 30 miles with my 50w GMRS.
In the US do you need a license for this radio?
yes, for 10 & 12 meters
A lot of guys use these as budget CB radios. And they are actually pretty good. You not gonna talk very far with them on 11 meters but this radio does pair nicely with a 4 x 2879 box.
My mate uses one on 11m in the uk and has worked Europe and Brazil 5500 miles on radio power on a vertical antenna
"You not gonna talk very far with them on 11 meters ". What a load of rubbish, I use 11 meters and have confirmed qsl's from all over the world, including Russia and Australia as well as the Middle East and ALL the USA

It would be great if they made these as a mono band radio for 80, 40 and 20 meters and swap CW for the FM mode.
It looks like a good radio but maybe im biased to Anytone. :)
Cough CB!😂
Breaker breaker
I have two president Lincolns with that white wire. Some how that wire got broken and the radio suddenly had 10 40 channel banks. Strange thing that white wire.
Very strange!
To get 12 meters cut the wire?
Ultimately, all of those sorts of radios are predicated around banks of 40 channels and I found them not great for amateur browsing. They don't resolve to enough decimal places for a start.
