Do u know of any small native UK predator insects that aren't spiders Like maybe a small centipede? I just need to know as I need to stop overcrowding in my terrarium so if u could give any info that would be boss
Hey I loved your tutorial. How do you care for the springtails? i.e. how do you keep the ones you are not using? If I keep them in a box and close the lid, will they die?
I'm just getting into terrariums and I'd like to know where you get your coco fiber. Is it coconut husk fiber? Also, my first terrarium has a plant in it and the plant molded. How would you fix it?
I love watching your videos, very informative as well as your ebook. I just built my first terrarium following your guides. My question is why does it stay fogged up all the time? Does that go away? Should i leave it alone? Should i open it and clean the glass? I only squirted a mist bottle with fine mist 5 squirts, the media isnt very wet.
Glad you’re finding it helpful! Constantly fogged up glass can be a sigh of overpowering, but I’ve found that some glassware is just prone to being fogged up even if the terrarium is not overwatered which might be your case. Try cleaning the inside glass to see it that helps😃
This is great! What’s the best way to get all those different materials for the substrate layer? And things like the spider wood and moss. What types of stores would sell that?
Very great setup! I got a same size of jar and leca. Plan to try my first terrarium or maybe paludarium. But can i use aquatic soil to replace terrarium soil? Because I'm a aquascaper, I got lots of fluval stratum soil unfortunately I don't have terrarium soil. Thanks
That's awesome, I would like to make one for me but I didn't find anything in canada. Can you please give me plant's link for Canada. It would be a great help. Thanks
thanks! i get the springtails from my local reptile shop, but they are also available online. I get the acrylic lids from amazon & eBay, search ‘clear acrylic disks’
just want to asked,, if I want to make open terrarium.. Should I added springtails or isopod too ?? any tips for that,, bro ??!! cause to be honest my concern is that the cleaning crew may will gone cause obviously their could escaped !! cause again,, i'm a newbie in this hobbies and i'm not sure I can make the close terrarium yet #lol
Do you sell premixed terrarium substrate? If not, maybe you could start selling various sized packages of it? I love that you include the recipe for it so we can make it at home, and I would like to try my hand at making a terrarium, but I’m wondering if we can buy it premixed so we don’t have a lot of leftover stuff if we’re just trying out a first terrarium. I hope that makes sense and maybe something for you to try: selling 1lb., 2lb., 5lb., etc. bags of your premade terrarium substrate for the beginner who is just starting out. Just a thought 🙂
Looks so nice, is the drainage layer just for aesthetic? Ive heard from another guy doing a lot of these terrariums that its a complete waste of time and space unless youre doing it to look nice, im so excited to get into it, awesome channel, subd
Good question! Although they are tiny, springtails are a good addition & it’s fun watching them constantly at work! Also you can add isopods that come in all sorts of colours:)
Heads up: some states, countries and most definitely UK (under the wildlife and countryside act 1981) it is illegal to take plants (with the exclusion of invasive species, check the legals and species in the area) from parks and woodlands. It is best to take plants from your own property or with the property owner's permission :)
i tried making a terrarium, but it sucks, i dont have any of these materials because im broke and im completely new to this so i kinda winged it, and i dont have any fancy tools to put the plants in so it looks super ugly and all of the jar space is taken up by the stupid drainage layer because i dont have leka, window mesh, abs, or plants, i got everything from my backyard and i cant find a place that sells good jars and most websites don’t ship to Canada. I just wanted a new hobby and im very dissapointed because it turns out i suck at everything.

This is great man, you make it all look so simple :) Keep up the good work
thanks for the support!:)
I noticed you didn't mention worm castings. Never the less, I absolutely enjoy all your videos and style of teaching. Thank you.
(1:46) worm castings
You meant that you didn’t notice him mentioning worm casting towards the beginning of the video, right?
He did ❤
This is a very good tutorial, i like it when you describe all the materials you need for it.

Thanks for the tutorial! It was helpful, but I don’t know where to find the ingredients for the substrate mix. do you order them or find them?
Can root barrier becut and used in place of the screen, I have a big roll at home?
Thanks for another wonderful and educational video!

Thanks! Yes aqua soil is a great alternative, it’s high in nutrients, drainage well & doesn’t break down or compress over time. Good luck!😃
@@TerrariumDesigns Thanks for your kind replied and great info given. I liked all your videos because all videos with useful informations !

thanks! i get the springtails from my local reptile shop, but they are also available online. I get the acrylic lids from amazon & eBay, search ‘clear acrylic disks’
Thank you for your tutorial, how do I know when to water the terrarium?
You don’t if it’s sealed
where do i get the springtails from? im new to this and want to start and make my own terrarium
They are often sold in reptile/amphibian shops but you can also get them online:)
Currently thinking about making a terrarium, I wanna make one from a fish tank but for now I should start small. Thanks for the tutorial!
I'm watching a tutorial video to make my first terrarium. did you make your first terrarium

Could I add isopods/woodlice instead of springtails for cleanup crew?
I'm from Texas and i can't seem to find any place that sells live moss do you have any reliable sellers you can refer me too ?
What are springtails and how do you take care of them?
they are very small little bugs that eat all of the mould or decaying matter. They keep the terrarium clean and mould-free :)
What should be the avarage temparature to maintain TERRARIUM?
great stuff ! May i know how many hours of lights ?
I keep my terrariums under led light for 12 hours a day:)
and advice for putting an animal skull centerpiece? anything i need to look out for?

You need it if you want it to last more than a few months
Are worm castings necessary? I will be making a terrarium sometime this week and I have no worm castings.
They are useful but I have seen success without them & use something like 1/4 potting soil in their place.
@@TerrariumDesigns thank you very much! I actually ordered some from Amazon.
What kind of animals/insects can you put in this to make it more lively if that makes sense?

@@TerrariumDesigns thank you so much! I'm very new to this and I would like to learn more. Love ur channel, and again, thank you

@@TerrariumDesigns can I put crickets in mine?
Are There any substitutes for the ingredients in the substrate?
There are a few, what ingredients are you struggling to get hold of?
I'm new to this. But is It a good idea to put some sand in?
Yes you can use some sand as decor:)
Is it bad for my terrarium that i dont have a barrier between the substrate / drainige layer??
You can still make a healthy terrarium without the barrier, but it does help😃
Heads up: some states, countries and most definitely UK (under the wildlife and countryside act 1981) it is illegal to take plants (with the exclusion of invasive species, check the legals and species in the area) from parks and woodlands. It is best to take plants from your own property or with the property owner's permission :)
Is it necessary to have small holes in your terrarium for oxygen?
the plants produce oxygen.
Does a terrarium have to be completely sealed? Most of the ones in looking at have an opening which allows for watering.
You only need to water it if it’s not sealed so if you want less work seal it
What insect should you put in it if you don’t have springtails? Are isopods a good idea?
Yes, isopods fulfil the same function as springtails. If you go into the woods or a park you can get a few springtails for free.
Could you use charcoal straight from the fire?
Although I haven’t personally used it straight from a fire I’ve heard that it can be done. Just ensure it’s charcoal from wood:)
Where i can get springtails??
They are sold in reptile/amphibian shops & also online:) or you can even find them under damp leaf litter
how often do you water it?
About ones a year
@@TerrariumDesignsgreat 😂 just finished making my first one, we'll see how it goes. thanks 🫡🕺🏻
is the charcoal activated or not?
