This sequence is from the movie adaptation of the musical and stage play, Chicago. The women involved are all on death row because they're all murderesses... Except for the Hungarian woman at the end. She's innocent. Her verse is: "Mit keresek én itt? Azt mondják, a híres lakóm lefogta a férjem, én meg lecsaptam a fejét. De nem igaz. Én ártatlan vagyok. Nem tudom, miért mondja Uncle Sam, hogy én tettem. Próbáltam a rendõrségen megmagyarázni, de nem értették meg." And it translates to: "What am I doing here? They say my famous tenant held down my husband and I chopped his head off. But it's not true. I am innocent. I don't know why Uncle Sam says I did it. I tried to explain at the police station but they didn't understand." She's genuinely innocent. She's Not Guilty, and yet in a cruel irony, she's the only one of the murderesses who actually hangs for the crime... All because she's a poor immigrant who can't understand the authorities and they can't understand her.
@alegarza Even more tragic, it's somewhat vaguely implied her 'famous tenant' or neighbor killed her husband, probably a disagreement over the rent, and was able to avoid responsibility for the murder by blaming his wife. Basically, the famous person was able to get away with killing a poor immigrant by blaming his grieving widow for the murder.
@@Cedar_Wolf yes! :( and this is sadly a reality for many people, immigrants and particularly refugees, who are vulnerable to abuse by the law / authorities just bc of poverty and/or language barriers... As a sidenote, I feel I would be really interested in her whole life story, just from the text you translated... it's such a powerful premise that can also draw from real life cases as a way to bring awareness to these underrepresented stories, which are sadly more and more important lately. Thank you again for the translation 💜
Whats the point in sharing music if you're going to censor it? And in the most annoying way possible? Get out of the way and let someone else share it who doesn't plan on ruining it.
I imagine Mangione's entire cell block is singing this right now.
Even as a male, I cannot stop singing along to 'he had it coming'. Also, the Bandleader calls this by the correct soundtrack name: 'Cell Block Tango'

Thank you so much for this, I always wondered what she was saying, it's so tragic 😢

As a man I love the entire movie. I'm just a bit annoyed that they cut off a large portion of this song for this video.
Ah, yes, thank you for beeping out “ass.” Wouldn’t want to be exposed to anything indecent.

My ex-husband hated that I loved this song. Artistic differences, ya know.
Most badass and fucked up thing I've ever had enter my ears

And you cut it short too. Christ, what a mess.

@@mdlifer8847 yes, spelling mistake
Even worse yet, they cut off like half of the song. They showed only four of the six murderesses and even cut off the beginning of the song.
some guys just can't hold their arsenic
Treat a woman right and you may be spared from her wrath.
Was the last lady speaking Hungarian?
yes
Well she tries to, but I can barely understand her
Her uncle framed her and blamed her for her husbands death, but she can't speak English to tell that to the police
