  • In this episode I'm linking up with Mike McKinstry of Bassquatch Hunter TV to show you how to find, catch and then cook up all kinds of panfish - bluegill, crappie, sunfish, pumpkinseeds, rock bass, and yellow perch. We're doing a little fish fry two ways, and everything we're cooking is 100% gluten free and safe for people with Celiac Disease.

Whoah...mentioning bluegills yrs ago went fishing in Rough River Lake caught around 100 blue gills [using wax worms/meal worms] crossed Leitchfield to Nolin Lake caught limit # of rainbow trout...yeey ..P.S. I cooked some of the blue gills w/ heads[ but scoped out the gills & intestines]..into boiling vinegar w/ sliced onions /garlic/ginger/ napa cabbage as "paksiw"..healthy food !!

I love fishing for pan fish! When trout slow down I take the fly rod out with some smaller poppers and rip top water for pannies! Catch some bass as well! Another great video!!!

As someone who also has celiacs and has an air fryer this video is awesome. I never ate much fish but after seeing this I will definitely try to eat some more. Also is helpful that there are sunfish everywhere around where I live. Lastly thanks for trying the gluten free stuff. Most people just assume that it isn't as good so they don't try it.

I typically hit my local AZ lakes around 3am or so for bass / striper fishing, but when that bite slows down I switch over to panfishing... which is virtually all bluegill around here. Truth is I often have MORE fun panfishing than bass fishing. You called it perfectly when you described them as "scrappy," and there's nothing more exciting than hookin' into a 3 lb bass on an ultralight rig with 2 lb test. Caught a 4 1/2 lb striper that way last time I was out :)
The trick I've found for bigger bluegill is to fish deeper *IF* you can get underneath the little ones before they pick it up. If I see 3-5 inchers up shallow, I know there are probably at least a few 5-7 inchers or bigger down deeper. A lot of times the bigger ones aren't so much longer as they are just bigger around and broader across the body and shoulders... DEE-LISH filets.
Thanks for the breaded / air frying tip. We eat healthy and don't like to deep dry so we've been broiling our filets, but the air fryer looks like an excellent alternative.

Oh and when we eat a mess of the bream I fillet them and debone their fillets and that’s what most of the kids eat while I fry the bones with tail still attached, crispy fish chip, and I pull all the meat off the bones and gorge myself. The best eating on the whole bream is the throats, that bright orange patch on a lot of bluegills. Fry that piece up on the bone and pull those chunks of meat off and man oh man. I do use the scraps and heads for trapping bait during trapping season as well. I don’t throw any part of any fish away ever. I use every part of the fish either for fishing bait, trapping bait or fertilizer in the garden which is where all the guys from every fish goes. The folks around me dump their fish scraps at my place as well then they wonder why my garden always looks so much better than theirs. Lol. Good eats buddy but I do urge you to scale and eat the throats of those tasty little bream.

Don't laugh at the wasp grubs for bream/bluegill bait. I robbed every wasp nest I could get as a kid. Keep them in the refrigerator when not in use. The wasp grubs are really durable on the hook and give off. A little bit of oil that seems to really attract bluegill. Only downside is the wasps are usually aggressive and really get active when you tear down a nest. Keep the paper bag inspected and shake out any that have hatched while they are still cold.

You said 49 states that you can drive through. Which of course the 49th isn't Hawaii, so it'll be Alaska. When means you'd have to drive into Canada. Weren't you barred from Canada a couple of years back because you forgot you had ammunition in your vehicle at a port of entry?
