But our Lord Jesus Christ has risen. Our Lord is risen so I guess. The question is, why did you not enter that into the song? I agree with you when you say that Christ died on a cross, and not a tree; however, I know that some parts of the bible use the idiom "hung on a tree" for crucifixion, such as Acts 10:39. I have been informed by several bible scholars that the idiom was common place as of the first century AD, likely to put a more poetic form on the form of crucifixion, especially when it was thought that the accused was executed wrongly, as is the case of our Lord. Given that it is a figure of speech, an idiom, it shouldn't be taken to mean that our Lord was nailed to a tree instead of a cross, but I suppose much of the figurative language was lost in translation. A blessed Easter to you, for Christ is risen indeed!

The tree in this sense is an implied reference to Deuteronomy 21:22-23, which states, “If a man has committed a crime punishable by death and he is put to death, and you hang him on a tree, his body shall not remain all night on the tree, but you shall bury him the same day, for a hanged man is cursed by God.” This is where we get the saying, "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree." Christ accepted this curse and conquered it at the same time, so we would not be subject to it, as long as we follow His narrow way. In His own words, "Whoever wants to be My disciple must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me." (Matthew 16:24) Not only did He accept this sacrifice; He also set an example for us to make our own sacrifices, repent daily, and hang our sins on that tree, cursing them like Jesus cursed the fig tree to death in Mark 11:12-14, 20-25.

Not because I don’t rejoice in our risen Lord, but because sometimes I think it does us good to just meditate on the cross and our Lord’s death. It reminds us of the severity of our sin and the price that was paid to atone for it. I went to a church service this year on Good Friday and this song was performed and it brought me to tears.

I’m glad it doesn’t have it, because I want to use this for Holy Week. Resurrection doesn’t happen until Easter Sunday.
